The mission of RCC is to educate our students with a relevant, well-rounded occupational education, provide employers with well-prepared graduates, and serve our community partners .

HISTORY
Rockford Career College was founded in 1862 to provide a good business education at a reasonable cost to the residents of Rockford, Illinois . In the years that followed, the school expanded its offerings and added more occupational programs . It is the 5th oldest college in the state of Illinois . Ownership of the school changed several times over the years . In 2003, the College was acquired by the American Higher Education Development Group
• 1988 Rockford Career College (Rockford Business College) received the Centennial Business Award from the Illinois State Historical Society for its continued quality .
• 1990 distinguished as one of Rockford Magazines Service “100 Businesses” • 2004 & 2006 Awarded the “Charles Box Award” by the Rockford Chamber of
Commerce for embracing diversity in the workplace
• 2008 Moved to its current location and changed the name to Rockford Career College to better reflect the programs offered at the College .

FACILITIES
The college is located in the heart of the city of Rockford, Illinois . The current facility has 40,000 square feet of space, including classrooms, offices, library, resource center, laboratories and student lounge . The college offers ample student parking and is a major bus stop for RMTD .

SCHOOL HOURS
Classes meet on varying schedules, the school is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a .m . to 10 p .m .; Fridays 8 a .m . to 5 p .m . and Saturday from 8 a .m . to 12 noon . Class schedules are subject to change with enrollment for each term .

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster which may affect the iteration of the College (i .e . fire, flood, tornado, etc .) Rockford Career College reserves the right to suspend training for a period of time not to exceed 90 days .
ADMISSIONS
Admission to Rockford Career College to a program leading to a Degree, Diploma or Certificate requires a prospective student to:
• Possess a high school diploma or an equivalent GED ( General Education Development Test)
• Sign a release authorizing Rockford Career College to obtain an official high school transcript or GED as proof of education
• Interview with an enrollment representative • Complete the Application for Admission • Tour the facilities
• Students in a degree program must take a placement exam . ( Students who have graduated from another college with an associate degree or higher are exempt from taking this exam providing the college receives proof of graduation prior to entrance to the College) Placement requirements vary for each program
• Students applying for any online program or course must demonstrate readiness for distance learning
In order to enroll in individual courses while not pursuing a program, a prospective student must:
• Complete the application
• Meet the standards for the individual course .
• Students will be enrolled as a Non-Degree Student (NDS)
Any prospective student wishing to enter Rockford Career College, for any program, who is registered on any Sexual Offender Registry, will be denied admission to the college .

P r o g r a m D e s c r i p t i o n
The program provides course work required for an Associate of Applied Science degree that leads to positions in legal environments . A paralegal, under the supervision of an attorney, applies knowledge of law and legal procedures in rendering direct assistance to attorneys, clients, and courts . They may conduct initial client interviews and follow up on investigation of factual information . Paralegals design, develop and modify procedures, techniques, services, and processes; prepare and interpret legal documents; and detail procedures for practicing in certain fields of law . Paralegals research, select, assess, compile, and use information from the law library and other references, and analyze and handle procedures and problems that involve independent decisions .
Unauthorized Practice of Law
Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law .

• Develop the student’s ability to be able to draft legal documents in areas of the law studied including torts and family law, probate procedures and contracts .
• Demonstrate the ability to define and articulate law practices in a variety of legal settings where legal assistants/paralegals work, including small and large private firms, corporations, and government agencies .
• Demonstrate the ability to define and articulate the affect of changes in the delivery of legal services .

The Medical Assistant program prepares competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains . The students learn to perform duties under the direct supervision of the physician or practitioner . Students will learn scheduling, billing, taking of vital signs, administration of medication, phlebotomy, assisting with minor surgical procedures, performing laboratory tests and electrocardiograms .

This comprehensive program prepares individuals to take an active role in the coding and reimbursement process for services performed by the physician and non-physician practitioners . Students receive training in medical billing processes, patient account management, diagnosis and procedure coding, and medical insurance claim completion and processing . This program focuses on coding and insurance procedures for the medical office and the hospital .

This program provides instruction in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and prepares graduates to enter the field of massage therapy . This program focuses on therapeutic massage techniques used in a clinical setting . Additionally, students will complete a 180-hour externship in their last term of study . After graduation, students will be prepared and eligible to take the National Certification Examination administered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) .

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

Students are taught the skills and procedures to effectively contribute to the health and well being of veterinary patients . Veterinary technicians, while always working under the supervision of a veterinarian, provide many services . Routine duties include restraint of animals, sample collection, nursing care (IV catheter placement, bandage application, medication administration, etc .), feeding of animals, record keeping, office procedures, and client education and communication . Other skills include administration of anesthesia, surgical nursing, radiographic procedures, dental prophylaxis, clinical pathology procedures and medication preparation . This job requires the physical strength to lift and carry 50 pounds .

• Perform basic patient examinations and collect data on vital signs • Restrain and manage small, large, and exotic animals in clinical situations . • Administer medications by common drug routes and prepare
pharmaceuticals as prescribed by a veterinarian
• Prepare anesthetic delivery systems, induce anesthesia, and monitor patients under anesthesia
• Prepare and maintain the surgical area and assist during surgical procedures • Perform dental prophylactic procedures on dogs and cats
• Produce standard diagnostic radiographs
• Collect and process samples for diagnostic laboratory work
• Perform common veterinary diagnostic tests, such as blood chemistries, differentials, culture/sensitivities and EKGs

Program Length:
This program requires 111 quarter credits . A full-time student can complete the program in 9 quarters (27 months) if they maintain full-time status, do not take any quarters off, successfully pass each course the first time, and do not need any pre-curriculum classes .

This course is designed for students whose placement test score in quantitative skills was below a 7th grade level . Topics include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers . This course also provides a review of decimals and decimal fractions .

This course is designed to enhance the development of critical thinking skills in the areas of language development . This course is designed for students whose placement test score in verbal skills was below 11 .0 . This course covers critical reading techniques, the identification and correct use of basic parts of speech, punctuation competency, and spelling accuracy, including the use of the dictionary . This course introduces students to the writing process and is designed to help students improve both their language and writing skills .
