Syracuse Mets Game Notes

Upcoming Schedule and Probable Pitchers

Who’s Hot?: Since being optioned down from New York, Khalil Lee is hitting .316 (12-for-38) with eight RBIs, a home run, six doubles, and ten walks. Lee has a hit in ten of 12 games he’s played since returning to Syracuse and has a double in six of 12 games. Lee’s .480 on-base percentage since June 1st ranks fifth in the Triple-A East League…Over his last eight games Martin Cervenka is hitting .421 (8-for-19) with 6 BB and 4 K.

League Leaders: Syracuse leads the Triple-A East League with 53 stolen bases, 10 more than Worcester, the next closest team…The Mets are second in the league lead defensively in double plays with 36, five behind Gwinnett…Drew Ferguson is tied for fifth with eight stolen bases and tied for 17th with 17 walks…César Puello is tied for 12th in the league with seven stolen bases (Six with Worcester and One with Syracuse)… Drew Jackson is tied for sixth in the league with two triples… Jerad Eickhoff leads the league with 44 IP and ranks tied for seventh with 41 strikeouts… Jesús Reyes is third in the league with 41.1 IP…Franklyn Kilomé has the only complete-game shutout thrown in the league this season. Mets Dig the Long Ball: Syracuse has hit 38 home runs this season, scoring 63 total runs from those homers. That accounts for 39% of Syracuse’s run production this season (161 runs). Capacity Updates: Beginning this month, Syracuse was able to expand capacity at NBT Bank Stadium from 2,163 (20%) to 5,079 (47%) because of easing of restrictions by New York State. NBT Bank Stadium’s full capacity is 10,815. The Syracuse Mets had their two largest crowds of the season at NBT Bank Stadium the last two nights. On Thursday, a season-high 4,814 fans were at the stadium, Friday, 3,762 fans were at the ballpark, Saturday’s crowd was 4,722, and Sunday saw 3,222 fans at the stadium. Those are three of the four largest crowds Syracuse has played in front of this season at home or on the road. The largest crowd on the road was 3,481 on May 29th at Rochester.

We’re Going to Need a Bigger Base: Major League Baseball is implementing different experimental rule changes at the various levels in the minors this season. In Triple-A, bigger bases are being tested. In the Triple-A East League, where the Mets are, an 18x18 inch base will be used instead of the traditional 15x15 inch base. But this base will only be used for the first half of the season. In the second half, the league will switch back to the traditionally-sized base in order to see the differences. The Triple-A West League will do the opposite: Starting with the 15x15 inch base and then switching to the 18x18 inch base. There will be another difference. The 18x18 inch bag used in the Triple-A East League is

manufactured by Schutt. The bigger base that Triple-A West will use will be a new design that will have a reduced height of 2.5 inches tall at the center of the bag instead of the current 3 inches. That new design is being built by Boombang.

Better Get Comfy: In order to reduce travel for teams during the 2021 season, teams will only play opponents from the same division. The unique 2021 schedule also includes teams playing six straight games against the same opponent. Every Monday is an off day, and then teams will play a six-game series in the same city.
