The Cherry Creek School District Career and
Tech-nical Education (CTE) programs are pleased to offer
the highest quality programs to meet both college
and workplace standards. The CTE Building is located
on the northwest side of the Cherry Creek High School
Campus.

Q: What is the Concurrent Enrollment Program?
A:CCSD students receive both high school credit and college credit for Concurrent Enrollment classes. Students begin build-ing a college transcript while they complete their high school graduation requirements. Stu-dents must receive a grade of C or better to receive transferable college credit.
Q: What’s the cost?
A:Tuition is paid by Cherry Creek Schools and the College Opportunity Fund (That’s over $250 savings per class!).
Q: What is COF (College Opportunity Fund)?
A:All students must apply for COF. The COF stipend pays a portion of a student’s tuition. All students must complete an
application for the College Op-portunity Fund (COF) at: https:// cof.college-assist.org. Q: Am I eligible for the Concurrent Enrollment Program?
A:High school students can take Concurrent Enrollment classes.
Q: Is this right for me? Will my credits transfer?
A:The Concurrent Enrollment Program creates options for students still in high school. It prepares students for the rigor and culture of college. Students build a college transcript while still in high school. Students may transfer their college credits to any two or four-year college or university. Check with the accepting institution for credit acceptance.

Fashion Design is a year-long career pathway program introducing students to the many facets of the fashion design industry and how they are integrated with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Students begin the semester looking at textiles, studying fabrics and sur-face design. Students complete a career project/display board as they ex-plore the range of career pathways within the fashion industry. Next we study the history of American fashion starting in the 1920’s. The elements and principles of design as they relate to fashion are examined along with fashion trends, drawing, basic garment silhouettes, and construction de-tails. Basic garment construction is also integrated with a sewing project.
During second semester, students will explore the marketing and merchandising side of fashion. The fashion capitals of the world are exam-ined revealing the global perspective of the industry. Textile fibers are also studied. Next, students take a fashion product from concept to consumer, prototyping their product, and creating a design portfolio representing their knowledge of the design process. The fashion cycle, advanced cloth-ing construction, and green design are also explored.

This course teaches the principles and fundamentals of automo-tive systems and the safe use of hand and power tools, instruments, and test equipment. A full year of study involves the following sys-tems: cooling, power train, brakes, lubrication, alignment, starting/ charging, electrical, ignition, fuel, and suspension systems. The Teacher Cadet program is an innovative program that intro-duces high school students to the teaching profession. Students will explore the learner, the school, and the role of the teacher through exciting hands-on activities, guest speakers, field trips, 50 hours of both classroom and other school observations, job shadowing, and coop-erative learning situations.
During second semester, students will participate in an extended field experience in which the cadets will work closely with a coopera-tive teacher for 8-10 weeks. The cadet will be immersed in the class-room experience by helping students one-on-one or in large groups, plan lessons, grade, create, and teach. This rewarding experience will also help cadets earn hours for education programs at the college level. Each cadet will work on a portfolio throughout the entire year. Aviation Fundamentals, in a partnership with Metro State Univer-sity Aviation and Aerospace, includes a study of the airplane and its components, aerodynamics, basic aircraft systems, the airport envi-ronment, air traffic control procedures, Federal Aviation Regulations, the basic elements of air navigation including radio navigation, and a review of aviation weather. This college level course is taught by a Metro State University professor and prepares the student for taking the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot Knowledge Ex-amination. Students will be enrolled in the 6 credit hour Metro State University course Aviation Fundamentals (AES 1100). Aviation Technology helps students understand and appreciate all of the facets of the Aviation careers and Aerospace industries of to-day. Topics range from how to achieve a private pilot license to careers at NASA. Former students are currently employed in careers such as air traffic controllers, airline and military pilots, and aircraft mechan-ics. Instruction includes lecture, discussion, and computer-based flight simulator programs. This course introduces topics necessary for the FAA Private Pilot Exam. The class also participates in various field trips to places such as Peterson Air Force Base, Centennial Airport, NORAD, and the United Airlines Training flight simulator. An aviation club is also associated with the class.

This course presents an overview of the major segments of event industry: meetings, expositions, events, and conventions. The role of the event plan-ner, whose responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, and controlling various types of events and meetings will be reviewed. Students will learn how cities like Denver attract large numbers of people for conventions and trade shows, the importance of meetings and events, as well as the value of professional relationships with industry.
This college level course is taught by a Metro State University professor and aligns with the Metro State University course Event Industry HTE 2010. Students accepted to MSUD and who successfully complete the course may earn 3 MSUD credits.

This dynamic, hands-on, project-oriented photography class challenges students to think critically, learn professionalism, and pro-duce critically acclaimed art. Assigned projects prepare students to strengthen their creative eye and see life from a different perspective.
Students learn both film & digital photography, use a darkroom, as well as learn the industry standard, professional software: Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Students will explore career possibilities, develop a resume, and meet photographers, all while preparing for col-lege and industry.

This Criminal Justice course will concentrate on forensics, crime scene, investigative techniques, and law enforcement in general. This Criminal Justice course concentrates on potential careers in the criminal justice system and law enforcement in general. Stu-dents will learn about the agencies and processes involved in the criminal justice system: the legislature, the police, the prosecutor, the public defender, the courts, and corrections. The course includes an analysis of the roles and problems of the criminal justice system in a democratic society, with an emphasis upon inter-component rela-tions and checks and balances. Field trips to local criminal justice and law enforcement agencies support student learning experiences. This course aligns with Colorado Community College Intro to Criminal Jus-tice (CRJ 110).

PRO START 1 & 2
Colorado ProStart is a high school hospitality education program of the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Foundation, the Colo-rado Restaurant Association, and the ColoColo-rado Hotel & Lodging Association. ProStart is a two-year foodservice and hospitality management curriculum offered to high school juniors and seniors. Students can take ProStart 1 or ProStart 2 first, they do not need to be taken in order. The objective of the ProStart program is to provide an industry-driven curriculum that prepares students for a career in restaurant and foodservice management. The curriculum provides the following benefits to students: comprehensive coverage of culinary and management topics; an industry-infused approach; pedagogy that supports 21st century learning; relevant and timely topics from global cuisines to sustainability; con-tent aligned to certificates and ProStart program opportunities. Students have the opportunity to become ServSafe Food Safety certified. The ProStart classroom partners with industry professionals who come to school to work with and mentor students during class and offer outside opportunities. Students have opportunities for mentored internships, advanced placement in many colleges, universities, and culinary schools, scholarship opportunities, certification from passing the National Exams and meeting all program requirements. Students may be eligible for six concurrent enrollment credits through Metro State University of Denver. This has an optional fee.

The Executive Internship Program will provide an opportunity for selected students to have experience in a career field that they would like to pursue after graduation. An academic internship is a form of firsthand learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skill development in a professional setting. This work/learning arrangement is overseen by the Internship Coordinator for CCSD. Within the internship, students can expect to do various on-line work assignments, at-tend meetings, and complete projects. Students should be above average academically or especially talented in the career area they wish to pursue. Professional success also depends on the level of student’s maturity, responsibility and reliability. Internships are unpaid. This program is selective, and additional application materials and an interview are required.

This course is designed to provide students an advanced level of knowledge and skills related to health careers with emphasis on service within the health care industry. Furthermore, this course introduces students to ma-jor terms related to body systems, oncology, psychiatry as well as clinical and diagnostic services. This course meets the requirements for the Amer-ican Heart Association (CPR) certification for health care professionals. All students must provide proof of immunizations and testing for tuberculo-sis is required by healthcare professions.

In the EPIC Medical Careers class students are introduced to career opportunities through a unique series of lectures by medical profession-als. Each morning students will hear from professionals from the medical community such as a plastic surgeon, bio-chemical warfare emergency room doctor, a nurse at Denver Health talking about infectious diseases, a genetic counselor, a pediatrician, X-Ray and optical technicians, as well as professionals from the business (medical sales) and the legal (a lawyer who represents doctors) careers related to medicine. Students are pre-sented information about each specialty along with the education and other requirements for the many career options. Students may participate in a field trip to a cadaver lab or medical school to see how medical profes-sionals are learning as well as be a part of an emergency room simulation, labor/delivery simulation, and a cadaver lab to which students will see the human body and internal organs.

The Nurse Aide Certification Course is designed to give students practical application in nurse aide skills to pass the National Certification exam to ob-tain employment. Through partnerships students complete course work and clinical experiences that are a required element as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Flexibility in student schedule is important as the clinical experience may be outside the school day. Students must be 16 years of age and at least a junior. Furthermore, students must provide proof of immunizations and testing for tuberculosis and pass a criminal background check before placement. Additional application and spring informational meeting required. Students must show valid proof of residency (proof a parent has been in the state for at least one year) and a state issued form of identification.
