NATIONAL HOLIDAY: Military Parade in the morning on the Champs-Elysées; free performances at the Opera & the Comédie francaise. Fireworks at the Eiffel Tower

SAFETY TIPS for VIEWING FIREWORKS @ EIFFEL TOWER

• Watch out for people lighting fireworks illegally in public areas-- it's very dangerous! • Don't take any valuables with you to the viewing area!

• A million people will all be leaving at the same time. Hold hands with your friends so you don't get lost in the crowds!

• Take a map with you and plan a route to walk back to your dorm. The métro will be very crowded and dangerous!

• There are many places in Paris to see the fireworks while avoiding the crowds. You might not hear the music but you can enjoy the show! Watch for locations where you have a clear view of the Tower (e.g. bridges, near Pasteur, near the Panthéon, etc.)

Famous French Streets

You've heard of the Champs-Élysées but have you visited these other charming streets of Paris

Avenue Matignon & rue du Faubourg St. Honoré (75008): Interested

in fashion? Then a stroll down these two streets will give you the chance to practice "la lèche-vitrine" at Hermès, Chanel, Yves-Saint-Laurent, etc.!

Avenue Mouffetard (75014): this charming market street is particularly lively in the mornings.

Canal Saint Martin (75010): Cafés, quirky boutiques and picnickers line this Canal built by Louis XIV. Beautiful footbridges allow you to cross back and forth... or you can take a boat ride that includes a tunnel under the Bastille (Canauxrama, Métro: Juares).
