N E W S L E T T E R: 2018—2019
Ocean Grove Families,
This is an exciting, eventful time of year, when the days are getting longer and even though our sleep times often decrease, we are energized by the warm sun- shine of May! Recently, students enjoyed performing their line dance numbers at our school-wide dance ex- travaganza. Thank you to those parents and relatives who were able to attend and support our children. Our students were amazingly talented!
Together, at Ocean Grove, our words and actions have been creating an awesome place of learning each day.
What goes on between individuals defines who we are and what we can become as a learning community.
Our goal is that we continue to focus on the many posi- tive learning experiences here, because what we focus on soon becomes our reality. We continue to value the partnerships of learning involving our teachers, support staff, parents/families and students. Above all, we are privileged to work with your children each day. A posi- tive school climate directly affects everyone in a school and that clearly shines here! It is the foundation on which our students, staff, parents, and the community are built on.
Sincerely, Don Ottosen, Principal
Michelle Nohr, Vice-Principal

School Supplies for Fall 2019
This year we will continue with purchasing school supplies in bulk. Parents may pay for the supplies at the office, and receive a receipt, anytime during the month of June. This purchase has been very helpful for the school in ensuring both quality and quantity of school supplies is main-

Ocean Grove School Garden
The School Garden was officially established on April 7, 2019. On behalf of the Garden Committee, we would like to thank all of the hardworking volunteers who came and built garden boxes, set up tents, picked up or made food, shovelled soil and wood chips, loaded and unloaded materials, took care of kids, and planted the first crops. Some students and future students of Ocean Grove School partic- ipated and worked incredibly hard!
We would also like to thank each and every one
of you who supported this project. The way the school district, teachers, staff, parents, families, PAC, businesses, companies and the community all came to- gether to build something that will bloom for generations is truly overwhelming.
We would like to especially thank the following for making this work party possi- ble and we have many more thank you’s to come …

Thank you to all of you who saved and donated your refundable bottles/cans, you helped raise $820.20 for the garden project - amazing! Thank you also to all the parents/grandparents who helped sort so quickly at Island Return-It, and to Brittany at I.R. for guiding us. It was a great team effort.
Stay tuned for more updates on the garden, including the finishing of the garden, opening ceremony and more!
Thank you, The Ocean Grove Gardening Committee
All Ocean Grove students recently participated in Line Dancing lessons with Don Pennell. The lessons culminated with an en- thusiastic and well received performance on April 25th. There was also a surprise performance by the staff. Well done everyone - keep on dancing!
Keeping Active Children Hydrated
When children are playing they may need to be encouraged to drink to prevent dehydration (not enough water in the body). Water is the best choice to keep children hydrated.
Recommended: Water, milk, fortified soy, almond or rice beverage NOT Recommended: Sports drinks*, energy drinks
(*sports drinks are high in sugar and are only for those exercising and sweating for longer than an hour)
Keep active children hydrated:
* Offer water often, especially during activity
* Provide water or milk and watery snacks like watermelon, cucumber or smoothies after activity.
* Avoid juice and give fresh fruit instead.
Is your child’s water bottle safe?
Use stainless steel or plastic bottles that are designed for reuse. Disposable plastic bottles that are filled with water, pop, sports drinks, etc. should not be reused.
Wash water bottles every day!
Wash water bottles well by hand each day. Dishwashers do not clean all parts of the inside of the bottle. Recycle any bottles that show signs of wear such as scratches, dents, or a cloudy, cracked appearance.
