PMP New Computer Installation
& Networking Instructions
This document provides installation instructions for Existing Users installing on a new computer and networking instructions if you wish to run PMP on multiple computers as well restoring settings for user options.
There are 3 required steps for installing PMP on a new computer:
1. Create a monthly backup of your PMP data on old computer
2. Download and install Firebird Server Manager & PMP on new computer 3. Restore monthly backup on new computer.
1. Create PMP Backup from Old Computer
On the desktop of the OLD computer double click the Backup SQL icon.
Insert a USB stick into the computer.
Click the Monthly Backup tab. Select the drive under Backup using.
Click Start Monthly Backup followed by OK.
Remove the USB.

Note: You must be logged into your computer as an Administrator. Contact your tech or computer administrator for information on user accounts.
Choose your browser from the list below.
Internet Explorer users. Once you have clicked the download button below you will be offered an option at the bottom of the screen to OPEN or SAVE the file. Click the down arrow beside SAVE and select SAVE AS. Locate and select the Desktop in the menu.
Firefox users. Locate and click the Tools menu. Select Options and check Always ask me where to save files.
Google Chrome users. Click the wrench icon in the upper right corner (below the close X button). Select Settings from the menu. Scroll to the bottom and click Show Advanced Settings. Scroll down and look for the heading Downloads. Check mark Ask where to save each file before downloading.
1. Download Firebird Server Manager by clicking here or typing www.alpha.to/dl/Installsqlserver.exe into the address bar. When asked where to save the file choose DESKTOP.
2. Download PMP by clicking here or typing www.alpha.to/dl/installPMP8001.exe into the address bar. When asked where to save the file choose DESKTOP.
Close all windows.
Install
1. Locate and double click the installsqlserver.exe or installsqlserver icon on your desktop.
On the Setup Firebird Database Server screen click Next. Click I accept the agreement. Click Next. All the defaults for this installation are correct and modifications are not required. Continue to click Next until you reach the Ready to Install screen. Click Install, Next, then Finish.
2. Locate and double click the installPMP8001.exe or installPMP8001 icon on your desktop.
On the PMP SQL screen click Next on the Previous Version Uninstallation screen, then Next on the Welcome screen. Click Finish.
You should now see the icons Backup SQL, PMP SQL, PMPHCAI, and PMPs Utilities on your desktop.
3. Restore the Monthly Backup
From the desktop double click Backup SQL icon. Click the Restore tab.
Select #8. Other.
Insert the USB containing the monthly backup created from old computer.
Click the down arrow to the right of Look in:. Locate and double click the backup file named BMxxxxxx.zip or BDxxxxxx.zip, where the x’s stand for year, month, date.
On the Restore screen click Live Database, Start Restore, and on the Please Confirm screen click Yes.
Some of your PMP preferences will not have transferred to the new computer. This includes the Screen Size, Appointment Book Set Default, Dymo label maker, Today’s Note, and ePMP.
All of the options are located under the Setup menu, Computer Defaults.
Screen Size will only offer options available based upon your screen resolution
The Default Appointment Book Set will show your options
Select the Dymo Label option only if you have installed the Dymo printer
To turn on ePMP checkmark This machine only, sends email
Checkmark show todays note if you want notes to appear on startup.

Networking PMP
The network needs to be setup prior to networking PMP. You may require a technical person to assist with your network setup to ensure that the computers are communicating with each other.
The network cannot be password protected. To test if the network is password protected go to My Computer / Computer on the workstation. In the Address bar type \\ followed by the IP address of the server computer. The IP address of the server computer can be found on the PMP Launch Screen on the server (see screen shot above).
Press Enter. If you are prompted with a login and password the network requires a password and PMP cannot connect. Have your tech or someone knowledgeable remove the password requirement.
6. Server Setup
Sharing the PMP Data folder
Click Start, then Computer.
Double click C:\, then PMPw. Right click Data. Left click Properties from the menu.
Click the Sharing tab followed by the Advanced Sharing button.
Choose Share this folder. Type PMPSDATA, (note this field is NOT case sensitive). Click Permissions.
Choose Everyone and checkmark all selections under the Allow column. Click Apply, OK, then OK again.
Close all windows.

Installing PMP on the Workstation
Download installPMP8001 on the workstation or copy the file from the server computer to a USB and insert the USB into the workstation computer.
Locate and double installPMP8001.exe or installPMP8001. Click Next on the Previous Version Uninstallation screen, then Next on the Welcome screen. Click Finish.
Close all windows.
You should now see the icons PMP SQL, Backup SQL, and PMPs Utilities on your desktop.
Connecting to the Server
On the workstation, double click the PMP SQL icon. You may have to wait for PMP to offer an error that it cannot locate the data or firebird. Click OK.
Click the Stop button. The radio button under beside Location of the Firebird server should be selected on remote. Type the hostname in the field to the right.
The field may also contain the IP address of the server but hostname is more reliable if your
computer IP addresses get reassigned after rebooting the router. Click Test. You should see a green
checkmark if the firebird server can be found at the address given.
Make sure the radio button beside PMPSDATA is selected under Location of the Data directory. Click Test. You should see a green checkmark if the PMP Data is located.
Note: If you do not get a checkmark beside the Location of the Data directory you may need to manually map a drive to the server. See your computer technician for assistance.
Firewall Issues
PMP interference is usually due to firewalls detecting PMP as a potential threat. Instructions for setting up exception/exclusions in Microsoft Firewall, Norton, and McAfee are available on the OCA website at www.chiropractic.on.ca, or can be faxed / emailed to you.
