Introduction
This document describes the features included in the Video Analytics software embedded on the Rapid Eye Multi-Media DSP systems; specifically, using Rapid Eye View on remote access units. These features are tailored to the Rapid Eye environment, providing you with a seamless graphical user interface (GUI) for video analytics and digital video recording.
This document assumes you already have detailed knowledge about the Honeywell Video Analytics software and are familiar with the stand-alone version of the software. For a quick review or more detailed introduction, please refer to the Video Analytics user documentation, particularly the Video Analytics V4 Reference Guide.
Video Analytics Overview
Honeywell Video Analytics is an intelligent software system for automating video surveillance tasks. The software runs embedded on the Rapid Eye Multi-Media DSP platform to perform real-time surveillance tasks, including:
• Detection and tracking of moving objects • Detection of specific events
• Triggering alarms
• Generating video analytics alarm reports automatically and on a scheduled basis • Storing events in a database for later search and retrieval
• Providing video indexing and instantaneous retrieval capabilities that allows users to search for specific types of events or objects detected and stored by the system
Rapid Eye DVR Platform Overview
Introduction
Video Analytics sessions can be run: • While running View
• After letting the operator run View once, to register his Rapid Eye account, that operator has the option of clicking Start ➤ All Programs ➤ Honeywell Video Analytics ➤ [type of session].
Note For Rapid Eye DVRs offering Video Analytics, LocalView cannot be used to monitor video or to operate the DVR. It can only be used to display the network settings of the unit. To monitor video, use Rapid Eye View software on a remote PC.
Rapid Eye View displays up to four Honeywell Video Analytics (HVA) application icons on the Sites toolbar, depending on the rights of the Rapid Eye Operator’s permissions. To set up operator permissions, see User Management, page 19).

Note Trying to use an HVA command on a Rapid Eye unit without HVA only produces a warning message.
Configuration Tool
The AE Config Tool allows you to configure specific types of events or alarms for the system to detect in each camera view. Chapter 3 explains how to use the AE Config Tool.
Note Correct camera placement and software configuration play a critical role for achieving optimal performance and obtaining the maximum benefits from the software. System administrators and site managers should refer to the Video
Analytics V4 Reference Guide for detailed information on configuring and
using the software.

Receive live video streams from up to eight channels with analytics annotations as well as real-time events and alarms.

Note Honeywell suggests that you use the Configuration Tool first to configure HVA settings; that is, to set up scene objects, zones, and events. These settings must be configured for data to be captured in the database.
AE Reports Generator Generate event statistics reports based on user-defined specifications such as a reporting period, counting intervals, and reporting format.
Introduction
Live Monitoring Station
As live video is being processed, moving objects in the camera view are identified and tracked and real-time events are reported. See Chapter 4 to use AE Live to:
• View the live processing results from the processing service • Monitor currently tracked objects through on-screen display (OSD) • Instantaneously view suspicious alarms that are reported (see Figure 1-2)

Forensics Tool
Detected objects and events/alarms are stored in the database on the server for later review. The Forensics Tool provides an easy-to-use interface to retrieve relevant data from the database based on user defined query. See Chapter 5 to use AE Forensics to: • Specify the type of information, video channels, date and time ranges for the search
and explore the relationships between objects and events
• Search for alarms, events, objects, and key frames generated by the Video Analytics engine on the Rapid Eye Search.
Both the Live Monitoring Station and the Forensics Tool are essential for the security operator to effectively perform their daily surveillance tasks. For detailed functionality and step-by-step instructions on how to use these client applications, please refer to the Video
Analytics V4 Reference Guide.
Reports Generator
The AE Reports Generator allows the user to generate statistics reports for any system detected events, including counting data as well as surveillance types of events. See Chapter 6 to use AE Reports Generator to generate reports based on selected report parameters and report format.
For more detailed functionality and step-by-step instructions on how to use the Video Analytics Reporting Tool, please refer to the Video Analytics V4 Reference Guide.
Software Features
Video Input
Analog camera video inputs received from the Rapid Eye DVR are processed at CIF resolution at up to 30 IPS (real time) per camera depending on the selected resolution.
Introduction
Object and Event Detection
• Detected and tracked objects are classified into person, car, or small object, provided that a clear view of the object exists in the video.
• Users can customize the list of events to be detected in each camera view, set the severity level for each event, and adjust the system alarm threshold.
• Multiple restricted or directional zones can be defined for each camera view to detect events such as Person entered a restricted zone or Car moving in the wrong direction in the same camera view.
• Multiple exclusion zones can be defined for each camera view, to exclude processing for specific areas in the field of view.
Live Monitoring
• Objects are highlighted on-screen in real-time as video is being processed on the AE Live client application from the Honeywell Video Analytics software package.
• Events trigger real-time audio and visual alarms if the severity exceeds the alarm threshold.
• You can customize event settings and event severity levels for each individual channel.
Search and Retrieval
• All object and event data is stored in a database for future retrieval.
• Using AE Forensics, you can provide queries based on object type, event type, alarm type, camera name, and time quantifiers to retrieve object and event data.
• Using the Search, you can provide queries based on alarm type, camera name, and time quantifiers to retrieve alarms.
• Retrieved events are linked to recorded video, enabling a quick review of scene activity.
Report Generation
The Reports Generator allows you to generate statistics reports by specifying: • Reporting period
• Intervals • Events
• Selected cameras
• Reporting style: table or chart

Rapid Eye DVR Configuration
This chapter describes how to configure the Rapid Eye DVR to enable video analytics on selected channels.
The process includes the following steps:
1. Set up the Rapid Eye site(s) to which you will connect. 2. Configure the video resolution.
3. Configure camera tamper detection (optional).
4. Set up recording schedules and rules for each analytics channel.
This chapter assumes you have a working knowledge of the Rapid Eye DVR. Please refer to the Rapid Eye Multi-Media DVR Installation Guide for more detailed information.
Caution The video analytics system utilizes the Rapid Eye DVR to acquire live video inputs from cameras connected to the Rapid Eye DVR. To ensure optimal performance of the DVR system and the embedded video analytics system, it is critical that you follow the configuration steps in the order presented.
User Management
Rapid Eye Administrator
When you launch a Video Analytics application from Rapid Eye View, you are automatically logged on to the remote unit. When you launch a Video Analytics application manually, you can access a remote unit using any Rapid Eye user account, as long as that account has the right permissions.
Rapid Eye DVR Configuration
Assigning User Permissions
To create a user profile and assign permissions: 1. Using Rapid Eye Admin, select the Users tab. 2. Click . The Add User dialog appears.
3. Type in a user name and password in the appropriate fields. 4. Select Rights and site access are based on.
5. Select the permissions you wish this user to have. 6. Click Save and Close.

Setting Up Site(s)
To set up your Rapid Eye site for future connectivity:
1. Using Rapid Eye Multi-Media Admin, select the Sites tab, then click to add a Rapid Eye site (see Figure 2-2).
If prompted to log on, type the user name and password to gain access to Admin.

2. On the Add Site window, type a unique name for the site in the Site Name field. 3. Click to add the connection.
The Add Connection dialog appears.
4. Type in the IP Address of the Rapid Eye DVR in the IP Address field.

5. Click Save and Close. The site automatically populates in the Site Name list (see Figure 2-2).

Use Rapid Eye View to configure:• Resolution for each connected camera • Recording schedule
Note Rapid Eye V8.1 supports recording from up to 16 cameras but only 8 channels of video analytics.

Setting Log and Alarm Notification
To set how you want to handle events and alarms for each configured channel (camera): 1. On the Events tab, select the ActivEye tab.
2. For each desired camera, Honeywell recommends that you select the Log check boxes to enable log entries when an event or alarm occurs.
If Logging is not enabled, you will be able to use AE Forensics but will not be able to see the events and alarms in Rapid Eye View.
3. For each desired camera, select the Alarm check boxes to enable alarm notification when an event or alarm occurs.
Note Alarms are specifically Video Analytics alarms, as configured in AE Config, with a severity higher or equal to the set alarm threshold. Events are Video Analytics events, as configured in AE Config, with a

Defining Schedules
You can enable different rules during different hours of the day or days of the week. You need to set up the schedules before creating rules. To define a schedule for monitoring: 1. Select the Schedules tab.
2. Select Define Schedules.
3. In the Schedule field, type in an appropriate name for this schedule. 4. Click Add.

Video analytics tracks events and trigger alarms (if configured) at those times marked in blue (see Figure 2-6). When you first open the Schedules tab, every hour and every day is selected by default. To deselect an hour, click the appropriate box (indicated in white).

Notes About Schedules
Schedules set up using Rapid Eye View will generate video analytics events/alarms all the time. These alarms can be viewed in AE Live and AE Forensics.
Schedules set up using the Continuous feature only apply to video recording.
Schedules set up using the Alarm feature applies to video analytics alarms. This means that video analytics alarms outside of this schedule can be viewed in AE Live but will be filtered out in Rapid Eye View.
Video analytics events—that is, non-alarms—are not affected by any Rapid Eye View schedules. If you wish to restrict events, this can be done by defining day-of-week or time or date constraints using AE Config. See Adding an Event Associated to a Zone on page 38.
Defining Holidays and Exceptions
You can define days that you want excluded from regular scheduling. For example, in a manufacturing facility, you may wish to capture video from only certain cameras on scheduled holidays.

3. In the Type drop-down list, select Holiday or Exception.
4. In the Name field you can add a descriptive name (for example, Christmas Day). 5. Click Add. The date automatically populates in the list section.
6. After you make a change to your settings, click Update.
Note Only those specific dates in the list will be considered in the Holiday and Exception schedules (see Figure 2-6).

Configuring Rules
Rules are the criteria that determine the events that trigger alarms and/or events. To configure a rule:
1. Select Response. 2. Select Configure Rule.

If the box is grayed out, it indicates that output is not available for that camera (for example, Presets and Tours do not apply to a non-PTZ camera).
5. Select Describe Rule to see a description of the rule you have created. 6. To the right of the Response area you can:
• Select the Log check box to enable log entries when an event occurs.
If Logging is not enabled, you will be able to use AE Forensics but will not be able to see the events and alarms in Rapid Eye View.
• Select the Alarm check box to enable alarm notification when an event occurs. • Specify how long you want to record video after an event, stop video recording
after an event, or record as set up by your recording schedule

Setting the Alarm Schedule
Rapid Eye can restrict when any alarms (Rapid Eye and/or video analytics) get generated based on a schedule.
To set the alarm schedule: 1. Select Alarm.
2. Select either a schedule to use or Always On to have the system generate alarms at all times.

1. Click on the View toolbar to open the application.
The first time you are prompted to select the Config Tool. Browse to the HVA client installation folder, and then select the AEConfigurationToo.exe file.
Setting Up Video Inputs
The Video setup window has two areas:
• Video Source a definition section that lists the available video sources and the existing video sources
• Product License information that displays the number of licenses available for the product packages that are licensed

Configuring Video Channels
To configure a video channel:
1. On the Video Setup tab, double-click a camera in the Video Source list. The Video Source Properties dialog appears (see Figure 3-2).

3. In the Image size drop-down list, select the image size of the video sources to be processed by the video analytics server. Options are CIF or QCIF.
Note QCIF is typically only used for overhead people counting.
4. Click OK.
5. Repeat step 1 through step 4 for each video source.
6. When you are finished, click Send to server on the Video Setup tab.

Note The Rapid Eye DVR can have up to eight channels of embedded video analytics. Each channel must by activated by an individual license. If you attempt to configure a camera and see the following message, it means there is no license associated with that channel.

Configuring Each Channel
On the Channel Setup tab, you can customize the setting for each video input channel independently, including:
• Select a video channel • Define the scene type
• Define zones and directions for event detection • Customize the event list
Figure 3-3 shows the two areas in the Channel setup page: Scene/Zones setup and Event definitions.

Traffic Light Icons
The traffic light icon on the Channel setup page (see Figure 3-3) indicates if a channel is new, partially configured, or fully configured.
Modifying a Video Channel
To change the settings of a video channel:
1. From the Select Camera drop-down list, select a camera to change the settings for the corresponding channel. Each video input channel can have a separate list of events, scene setup, and associated zones.
2. Click Update image below the image display any time to update the live image. You may find this button quite useful during channel setup.
Setting Up the Scene
On the Scene Setup sub page you can provide information about the scene in the input video. There are two kinds of scene information:
• Types of objects expected in the scene
• Minimum size of these objects in the various parts of the scene
Traffic Light Icon Indicates …
Channel is fully configured. The server will detect all analytics events configured for this channel.
Channel is only partially configured, with no complete scene object, zone, and event setup. To see which configuration steps are missing, click the yellow light.

To select one of the three scene types, click the corresponding checkbox (see Figure 3-4):

Scene Types Description
Scene with people
For scenes that contain human activities. This selection can co-exist with Scene with cars if you are monitoring both human and vehicular activities in the camera view.
Scene with cars For scenes that contain vehicular activities. This selection can co-exist with Scene with people.
Overhead counting
Strictly used for counting people in an overhead camera view. This feature requires a very specific setup procedure to achieve the best performance. Please refer to the Video Analytics

Setting Up Zone Definitions
Select the Zones tab in the Channel setup window to set up zones. The available zones may differ from one product package to another.
Caution Inside zones must not overlap with outside zones, and vice versa. Failure to abide by this rule will result in incorrect system functioning.

Exclusion The system completely ignores any activities in the zone.
Object-block The system filters out possible false alarms that are confined in a localized area, such as wildly waving tree branches or object reflection on a reflective surface
Restricted The system detects entry, exit, parking, and loitering in the zone.
Direction The system detects motion in the wrong direction.
Trespass The system detects trespassing of a virtual perimeter.
Fence The system detects a person climbing on a fence.
Inside These paired groups are used to count the number of instances of entering and exiting between the two groups of zones.
Outside
Car lane counter The system counts the number of cars passing through individual lanes on the highway.
Detection Used for some premium events, including Object left unattended, Person running, and Vehicle speeding to mark the area where the detection is in effect.
Asset The system detects an asset being removed from the scene.
U-turn The system detects cars making illegal u-turns.
Handicapped The system detects parking in the zone.
Shoulder The system detects a car pulling off the road, which often indicates the need for assistance.
Theft The system detects suspicious shopper behavior when the shopper reaches in to the shelf and quickly grabs too many items of merchandise.

Zoom Tooltip
On the Zones tab, there are zoom tooltips that allow for zooming in and out of the image. Use them to help better define the zone, especially when a precise zone boundary is required. Each time you click the zoom-in icon, the image is magnified 2x.
Point and drag the entire image or use the scroll bars to move to the desired area in the image where you want to place a zone.

Configuring Events
After the video source and the number of input video channels are selected in the Video setup page, the default list of events to be detected appears in the Event List window in the Event Definitions area. The Event Definitions area allows you to customize your settings for event detection.
Adding an Event Associated to a Zone
To add an event that is associated with a zone, in the Zones tab, click Add Zone Event. Those events that are associated with the selected zone are listed for detection. An Event Properties dialog appears (see Figure 3-6) where you can input:
• Severity level
• Time conditions (date, time, day of the week) • Associated zones (when applicable) of the event

For zone definitions, see Table 3-2. For example, you can define an enter event relative to a restricted zone and set a high severity at night and have another enter event with a low severity during the day.
Adding an Event for the Entire Scene
To add an event that does not require a zone, in the Event Definition area, click Add to open the Event Properties dialog. Customize the event as desired. This type of event is applied to the entire scene.

When you are finished setting up the events and associating zones, click Next>> to advance to the Camera groups tab. Alternatively, select the Camera groups tab.

Setting Up Camera Groups
Cameras can be grouped based on their spatial proximity or functional similarity to enable specific features in the software. Camera groups can be used to:
• Combine counting data of all cameras in the same camera group
• Provide statistics reports based on camera groups in the Reports Generator
Adding a Camera Group
1. On the Camera groups tab, click Add Camera Group. The Camera Group Properties dialog appears (see Figure 3-8).
2. In the Group name field, type in a unique name for this group of cameras.
3. In the Unassigned cameras list, highlight a camera(s), then click >>> to move the camera to the Group cameras list.

4. Click OK to return to the Camera groups tab. Your new camera group automatically populates in the Camera Groups list.

Uploading the New Configuration to a Server
You must upload your changes to the video analytics server to have them take effect. 1. Click Send to server.
2. Click Next>>.
Alternatively, you can wait until you finish all the changes in the Configuration Tool and then submit all the changes to the server at the same time.

System Setup
Some settings are system-wide and can be configured on the System Setup tab, including: • Setting the default alarm threshold
• Enabling and set the time when the counts are reset • Entering the license key
• Configuring the database properties

Setting a Default Alarm Threshold
Any event with severity level equal to or greater than the alarm threshold generates an alarm in real-time. You can set the global alarm threshold from the Alarm Threshold drop-down list (see Figure 3-10). This threshold applies to all the channels being processed by the analytics server. Select the alarm threshold (from 1 to 10, 1 being the lowest priority) that is suitable for your operation. The default alarm threshold is set to 4.

Your license key can vary in length depending on the number of product packages your system is licensed for. The license key string controls the number of licenses and expiration date for each product package in your license. To activate a license key:
1. On the System setup tab (see Figure 3-10), click Enter license key. 2. To receive a valid license key, you must provide the Server ID to

Configuring the Database Properties
To ensure continuous system operations, the system automatically monitors disk usage on the server and manages the size of the recording database. To view and modify the database properties:
1. On the System setup tab (see Figure 3-10), click Database Properties. The Database Properties dialog appears (see Figure 3-12).
2. Set the minimum free disk space and the number of days of records to keep on the server.
3. You can also specify the time for daily database maintenance to the hour. Honeywell recommends that you specify a time when there is a minimum load on the server; that is, when the scenes are quiet.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Send to server to upload the changes to the server. The message Database properties set indicates that the change has been successfully uploaded. Changes are in effect at the next database maintenance time.

Live Monitoring Station
Live Monitoring Station is essential for the security operator to effectively perform their daily surveillance tasks.
As live video is being processed, moving objects in the camera view are identified and tracked and real-time events are reported. Using Live Monitoring Station, you can view the live processing results from the connected servers, such as monitoring tracked objects and receiving all the detected events through on-screen display. Suspicious events and alarms are also reported instantaneously through visual and audio announcements.
Using the Live Monitoring Station Application
To use the Live Monitoring Station, click on the Rapid Eye View toolbar to open the application.
Alternatively, you can launch Live Monitoring Station manually from the Start menu and use your RapidEye user name and password to connect to up to three Analytics servers. Figure 4-1 shows one camera only.
There are six areas of interest in the Live Monitoring Station: • Server Status
• Display Control • Video Display Panels • Event Display • Threshold Settings • Image Display

Field Description
Audio alarms Select to hear a voice announcement whenever an alarm is received from the connected analytics servers, regardless of whether the channel is displayed.
Show alarm popup Displays a red alarm window on the upper left corner of the screen (see Figure 4-2) the moment an alarm is received from the servers, regardless of whether the channel is displayed on the video display panels.
Show alarm video Displays the most recently alarmed camera window whenever an alarm is received, regardless of whether the channel is displayed on the video display panels. The red bounding box

Alarm Display
Whenever an alarm is received for a camera that is currently displayed on the screen, a red alarm bar appears below the camera image with blinking text announcing the type of alarm. At the same time, the objects involved in the alarm are also highlighted in a blinking red overload on the video image to alert the user (see Figure 4-2).

Forensics Tool
As live video is being processed, moving objects in the camera view are identified and tracked and real-time events are reported. These detected objects and events are stored in the database on the server for later review. The Forensics Tool provides an easy-to-use interface to retrieve relevant data from the database based on user-defined query. You can specify:
• The type of event or alarm • Severity level
• Video channel (camera number) • Date and time range for the search
• An object type for searching by camera and date and time
Using the Forensics Tool
To use the Forensics Tool to retrieve data, click on the Rapid Eye View toolbar to open the application.
The four areas in the GUI for live retrieval are:
• Search Definition (containing multiple drop-down lists) • Query Results
• Frame Display

The search results display in the Query Results area on the right side of the screen. The total number of results that match the search query are shown in the text bar above Query Results.
Note Narrow your search parameters to retrieve fewer search results.
Viewing the Latest Search Results
To view the latest alarm/event, object, or frame search results:
1. Under the Query Results area, click Event Results, Object Results, or Frame Results.
2. The Query Results display returns to the last event, object, or frame search results.

Camera Select one or more cameras. The default is All Cameras.
Severity Retrieve events or alarms at the designated severity level.
Zone 1 Further refine a search for events or alarms associated with a specific zone.
Zone 2 For an event that links two zones, define the second zone in addition to Zone 1 that is associated with the event.
Start Specify the start time of a search period.

After retrieval, the Query Results list displays:

Viewing and Event Key Frames
To view the key frame of an event:
1. Click the event to highlight it in the Query Results area.
The event key frame displays in the Frame Display area on the lower left of the screen. The date and time of the key frame displays in the Date/Time field above the key frame. If the event is associated with any zone, the zone is also overlaid on the key frame.
2. On the right side of the Frame Display, the snapshots of object(s) involved in this event also display in the Object Display area.

To view the object trajectory during alarm or event retrieval: 1. Click Object History at the bottom of the Object Display area.The trajectory of the object is overlaid on the alarm or event key frame in the Frame Display area.
2. To view all the events of a specific object, click Event History under its snapshot in the Object Display area.
The Query Results area refreshes to list all the events of this object.
When an event in the list is selected, its corresponding frame when the event was detected also shows in the Frame Display area on the lower left of the screen.

Viewing an Object Snapshot and Object Trajectory
To view the snapshot of an object:1. Click to highlight the object in the Query Results list.
The object snapshot displays in the Object Display area for Object 1.
At the same time, both the bounding box and the object trajectory are overlaid on the representative key frame in the Frame Display area.

Retrieving Frames
To retrieve frames:

Reports Generator
The Reports Generator provides statistical report generation for any of the events detected in the system, including counting data as well as surveillance types of events.
This chapter describes how to use the Reports Generator to generate reports.
Note To print reports, there must be at least one printer connected to the PC where Reports Generator is used.
Using the Reports Generator Tool
To generate reports:1. Click on the Rapid Eye View toolbar. 2. Specify:

b. If desired, change the default destination directory where the report is to be filed. c. Click Save.
