What is SaaS?
SaaS vs. Cloud?
“Cloud computing” is all the buzz in hosted solutions. Does this mean it is about to replace SaaS?
An easy way to understand the difference is to think of SaaS as the enterprise level deployment of the more generic Cloud.
In fact, SaaS precedes Cloud computing. It may not be so sexy to talk about, but rest assured - it’s here to say.
SaaS in a Nutshell
Software as a service (SaaS), or “on-demand software,” provides software and associated data hosted centrally, typically over the internet.
This means a SaaS solution is not hosted at your enterprise locations but remotely by a SaaS provider.
SaaS services are normally accessed through a “thin client” or web browser. Applications are also used.
