Organizational memory information system case study in Faculty of Computer Science & Information System, UTM

Organizational memory information system case study in Faculty of Computer Science & Information System, UTM

The paper’s purposes IS to evaluate the need for organizational memory information system (OMIS) in Faculty of Computer Science and Information System to improve academic management. Approach adopted in this research is to implement OMIS characteristics. After examining few models of organizational memory in literature review, OMIS characteristics is identified for implementation and success factor model to assess the OMIS. There are three possible forms of OMIS, namely paper documents, computer documents and self-memory. IT-based memory is quasi-permanent; knowledge is logged, indexed, secured and organized in such a way that it becomes accessible. IT contributes to organizational memory in at least two ways; by making accumulated knowledge accessible to organization members or by making individuals with knowledge known. OMIS could be achieved by effectively applying framework of OMIS, which include elements of individual, culture, transformation, structure, ecology, external environment, computer based information system and non-IT record and files. This paper indicates that there are 5 blocks of success factor to evaluate OMIS implementation; system quality, information quality, success measure in terms of usage, individual impact and organizational impact. The research is proposed as a prototype to be implemented for the whole module of FSKSM in order to protect their intellectual capital and optimizing the efficiency by managing organizational memory. The paper provides details of solution to academic management on the approach to making organizational memory information system work in practice. The approaches to manage memories in the model have yielded a number of benefits as demonstrated by a case study. This work will be beneficial to researchers and practitioner who are interested in applying OMIS in organization.

College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) Rules and Regulations of the Faculty including Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Guidelines

The reappointment of a Faculty member requires the recommendation of an academic unite or institute faculty. All recommendations must be justified on the basis of the evaluations conducted in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Guidelines on Faculty Evaluations. Any reappointment s must be at the rank previously held unless a promotion or advancement to a higher rank member may be (1) without tenure, (2) equal to twelve semesters or (3) more than twelve semesters. In the case of “for continuation to tenure” or “with tenure,” all procedures on the granting of the tenure must have been satisfied at the end of the previous appointment period. (The Dean will normally inform a Faculty member of the conditions of a renewed appointment at least thirty days prior to expiration.)

AND COMPUTER SCIENCE. Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Faculty. Chairperson: Dr. Barbara A. Bracken

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers three tracks leading to the baccalaureate degree in Mathematics: the Standard Mathematics Track; the Computational Mathematics Track; and the Teacher Certification Track. The Teacher Certification Track provides preparation for secondary school teaching. The Standard Mathematics Track prepares students for graduate study and research in Mathematics or for careers in industry or government, depending upon the upper-level electives chosen in consultation with the faculty advisor. The Standard Track, when combined with an appropriate second major or minor area of study, can also provide an excellent foundation for professions in business and management, economics, law, medicine, and actuarial, computing, engineering, environmental, and physical sciences. Computational Mathematics is increasingly important in all fields of sciences, especially such fields as oil and gas exploration. In addition, the Computational Mathematics Track offers students with a strong interest in both mathematics and computer science the opportunity to explore the relationships between the two fields. All three tracks share a common core of study in discrete mathematics, analysis, probability, and statistics.

Establishing and Sustaining a Preparing Future Faculty Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science

Establishing and Sustaining a Preparing Future Faculty Program in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science

• a cluster consisting of one doctoral institution, along with three partner schools was set up. Cluster partners had been active in previous university PFF programs, and so the cluster membership was easily determined. A project steering committee, consisting of faculty from these four partner schools, along with some of the participating Ph.D. students, was chosen. The cluster partners would provide a mix of academic environments for students to learn about and be mentored in. The program would allow students to explore all these diverse environments and to consider not only whether an academic career was a good personal choice but also what mix of research, scholarship, teaching, and service would best fit each individual's career plans. For many of the student participants, especially those whose baccalaureate education was not completed in the U.S., just learning about the existence of a range of departments with different viewpoints and missions was a rewarding experience. As is typical with engineering colleges today, the majority of our graduate students fall into this category. As our program has expanded to include students from many different engineering departments, we have continued to identify new partners and we also place some with mentors in the Ph.D.-granting institution's College of Engineering. The program continues to involve faculty from a broad range of institutions, not only as mentors but also as program advisors and as panel members for the many discussions in our seminars. Three of the original partner schools still remain active, while one, a four-year liberal arts college, is currently inactive due to the discontinuation of its computer science program and its lack of engineering programs (although one of our PFF participants, from bioengineering, has been hired by its biology department as an adjunct faculty member).

Scientific research with the spesific problems that can be divide into many jobs which does not have high dependencies in each proces can be define into embarassingly parallel problems. EP problems runs well on cluster computer environment that can be build as the substitution of supercomputer infrasturcture. EP has became favorite between researchers that need large computational resources. EP gives very nice result on cluster computer environment. It show good speed up and efficiency regarding general performance of application.

Creating twenty comparable programs is not the only problem. Given that we were able to create twenty different but comparable programs, the second problem is to recruit enough subjects to conduct our experiment. If we choose a simple one-factorial design (cf. Table 2.2 on page 31), we have twenty groups. All groups should be large enough, such that we control the influence of confounding parameters like intelligence or education. Since the number of subjects that defines large enough is not specified, (cf. Section 2.3.2.2), we optimistically assume that ten subjects per group are enough. Hence, we would have to recruit 200 subjects for our experiment. If we use students as subjects, we could recruit them via an introductory lecture to computer science, which can easily be addressed to several hundred students (at least in larger universities like the University of Magdeburg). Recruiting 200 experts requires more effort, because we have to contact companies and most certainly pay them for participation, which is very tedious and costly.
