These configuration items can be found in the RSReportServer.config file. The UrlRoot property is used by the report server delivery extensions to compose URLs that are used by reports delivered in email and/or file share subscriptions. This property has to be set correctly to avoid having incorrect links generated by the reports. Because you’re dealing with multiple nodes in the NLB cluster, you wouldn’t want end users to see the physical computer name where the subscriptions were generated. You also wouldn’t want end users to be directed to the physical server and bypass the NLB cluster because this would affect their session state information.

Create Reports Utilizing SQL Server Reporting Services and PI OLEDB. Tutorial

Create Reports Utilizing SQL Server Reporting Services and PI OLEDB. Tutorial

One of the sources of data the Reporting Services can work with are OLEDB providers. This document outlines a short tutorial describing how to create a simple report by means of the aforementioned components (SSRS and PI OLEDB). The goal is also to show the „simplicity‟ of this approach, because no programming is involved to create a report. In addition, the available report deployment models/schemas are shortly discussed at the end of this document.

SQL Server 2012 Tutorials: Analysis Services - Multidimensional Modeling

To reduce the apparent complexity of a cube, you can create viewable subsets of the cube, called perspectives, which show users only a part of the measure groups, measures, dimensions, attributes, hierarchies, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), actions, and calculated members in the cube. This can be particularly useful for working with client applications that were written for a previous release of Analysis Services. These clients have no concept of display folders or perspectives, for example, but a perspective appears to older clients as if it were a cube. For more information, see

There are three common ways to get data from Oracle into SQL Server:

successfully exchange data between Oracle and SQL Server 2005 instances. The sharing of data between the two is becoming a very widely desired process, in part due to the licensing of the reporting tool for SQL Server. SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is a free component with a valid license of SQL Server (although you must have per-processor licensing to use Internet reporting). In many cases, data is ported over solely to run reports. Some simply need to retrieve data that is partially in SQL and partially in Oracle. Whatever the reason, with more and more database shops containing both products, the need is greater than ever to share data between the two unlikely playmates.

Memory and SSD Optimization In Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012

Memory and SSD Optimization In Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012

SQL Server memory behavior is controlled by the min server memory and max server memory settings. By default, max server memory on a 64-bit server (the maximum setting) defaults to the total amount of RAM available in the system. If the core SQL Server service is the only service running on the system (aside from typical OS services), SQL Server will eventually consume the majority of RAM available. Other SQL Server services, such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), will consume some of the RAM available to the core SQL Server service, but eventually Windows Task Managerwill report all memory is being used by the system. This issue is compounded when more than one SQL instance is present on the system. Each SQL instance requires its own pool of memory, and when multiple SQL instances are running on the same system, the instances will begin to compete for resources. In the default SQL confi guration, each instance will attempt to consume as much memory as possible, with neither getting the proper resources they need to perform optimally.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

In previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX, analysis cubes required the user to have full license keys and access to all data; otherwise, the configuration keys had to be modified through a lengthy and difficult process. In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, analysis cube settings are easier to modify to suit business needs and security levels. It is easier to create or update SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) projects by using the Analysis Services Project Wizard. It is also easier to model data by using views in perspectives.

SQL Server 2012 and SQL Azure will offer ‘anywhere support’ for moving a DAC database between SQL Server databases across server, private cloud or SQL Azure. This enables customers to build once and deploy and manage anywhere which leads to unprecedented flexibility across IT and dev. Import and export services in the DAC framework enable archiving and migration scenarios between on-premise and cloud database servers. The new export service in the DAC framework will extract database schema as well as data and serialize it into a new logical and open archive format – a .bacpac file. Users will then be able to import the .bacpac archive into another database server.

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 with Hadoop pdf

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 with Hadoop pdf

Many executives have realized that the current BI approach is unable to keep pace with the inflow of data in a dynamic business environment. Data is everywhere now, and growing exponentially. Relying too much on a big-budget BI team for everything is no longer acceptable. This has led to the dawn of a new technology called self-service BI. Self-service BI is the talk of the town at the moment. It allows you to perform a professional level of data analysis quickly and efficiently without the need to hire an expensive set of BI infrastructure or a team of skilled individuals. Microsoft provides a set of rich self-service BI tools that can connect to a wide variety of data sources including SQL Server 2012 and Hadoop and quickly provide insights on the data. It combines with powerful reporting facilities and produces a seamless, interactive visualization on the underlying data. This is often at the top of the management pyramid where business executives review these reports and take decisions for betterment of the business and more efficient resource utilization. In this chapter you will learn about:

After checking the system configuration, the installer offers a choice of compo- nents to install . Whether you use the Developer, Workgroup, Standard, or Enterprise edition, you have similar options . You can install instance features, shared fea- tures, or both . With instance features—such as Database Engine Services, Analysis Services, and Reporting Services—you can install one or more instances of each on the Enterprise and Developer editions . Each instance of SQL Server consists of a distinct set of services that have specific settings for collation and other options . Directory structures in the file system and in the registry reflect instance names, as do the names associated with SQL Server support services . Shared features, on the other hand, are shared across all instances of SQL Server and include the client tools, development tools, Sync Framework, and Integration Services .

Multi-Server Implementation In this scenario, PXS (or Foreseer) reside on one server and, PXR, Microsoft SQL Server, Reporting Services, and IIS reside on one or more separate servers. This is the preferred method in installations that have an existing SQL Server installation. This scenario requires that you ensure that all required accounts have been created and have the proper privileges for inter-server communication. There are two schemes for creating these accounts: as Win- dows accounts within Active Directory or as SQL Server accounts.
