These courses will be run over eight weeks, with each course focusing on one of the Practices from My Time, Our Place. The program will give participants a supportive forum in which to reflect on and deepen their understanding of the Framework for School Age Care, relevant theory and how it can be applied in their practice as educators, as well as gathering ideas from other services around implementation. The course will include interviews with therapists and specialists to explore the symptoms and behaviour that may be exhibited by children with a range of common additional needs conditions. Part 1: How can we have truly inclusive approaches to education and care and make sure we have the balance right for all children and families? In this course, you will learn how to include children with additional needs, how to support needs and develop skills and interests, and how to embrace and celebrate difference. You will develop practical skills and knowledge in communicating, playing and interacting and be guided in ways to grow your understanding of the individual child and their unique needs.

How do young children develop attitudes and their thinking about race and culture? How do they construct their views on ethnicity and language? In this course, we will explore ethnicity, race and culture including the impact that racism has on the way children perceive themselves, their family and their community. We will work on developing positive attitudes towards cultural and linguistic differences, and practices to enhance children’s sense of belonging. This course will also explore strategies to promote effective interaction and communication with children, families and communities from diverse cultural groups.
