BASiC  President  

•   We  will  present  a  plan  regarding  the  Arts  &  Science  Lounge  to  Assembly  at  the  beginning  of  next  

semester  

•   Creating  a  selection  committee  for  Chief  Electoral  Officer  for  BASiC  

-   Esther  is  the  exec  who  will  lead  the  committee  

-   Departments  to  discuss  with  their  groups  to  see  who  is  eligible  (graduating  and  no  longer   able  to  run  for  a  position)  and  interested  to  be  on  the  committee  

♦   Contact  Esther  

♦   Matt  will  be  on  the  committee  

-   We  have  3-­4  responses  for  people  interested  in  being  CEO  at  this  point  

•   Survey  will  go  out  in  the  listserv  question  to  guage  Arts  &  Science  students  insight  on  different  

issues  regarding  students  space,  the  program,  BASiC,  etc.  

-   Questions  will  be  similar  to  what  we  had  3  years  ago  so  we  will  be  able  to  compare   answers  

•   Arts  &  Science  Lounge  

-   Will  have  5  year  proposal  at  the  first  Assembly  of  the  Winter  Semester    

BASiC  VP  Internal  

•   Semi-­formal  

-   Successful  event,  could  have  had  more  people  (we  had  around  90)  but  who  was  there   went  well,  and  the  numbers  worked  

-   Will  add  lessons  learned  and  tips  for  next  year  into  mid-­year  and  exit  reports   •   Next  semester  events:  

-   Collaborating  with  MBSU  on  at  least  two  things:   ♦   Formal,  Fri  Feb  12th  on  Darwin  Day/BAE-­SiC     ♦   Apartment  Crawl  

-   Alumni  Wine  &  Cheese  Event   ♦   Same  time  as  grad  events   ♦   10  year  Anniversary  of  BA&Sc.    

♦   Geared  towards  graduates  of  this  year  and  alumni  of  the  past

BASiC  VP  Finance  

•   We  could  add  section  to  budget  for  Formal  with  MBSU  as  well  as  the  Grad/Alumni  Event  

o   Add  ¾  to  Internal  portfolio,  ¼  for  FYA  

o   Allocate  $150  for  Ampersand:  The  Conference  so  that  they  don’t  start  off  with  nothing   o   Change  ArtSci  Fund  Lounge  to  Conditional  Pending  Approval  at  Assembly  

o   Budget  PASSES!  

•   Working  on  Google  Doc  to  keep  track  of  all  sources  of  funding  

o   Please  let  Michelle  know  if  you  have  anything  to  add.   o   Hopefully  will  be  ready  by  next  Assembly.

•   Turnout  @  Gerts  for  cogsci  feedback   •   Succesful  Samosa  Sale    

 

Arts  &  Science  SSMU  Representative  

•      SSPN  Committee  Update  

o   Committee  is  formed  for  faculty  Olympics,  Matt  is  Operation  and  Programming   Coordinator  

o   Also  chair  for  Grad  Frosh  

•   SSMU  Council  on  Nov  5th  

o   Not  much  on  the  Agenda  but  still  lasted  5.5  hours  

o   Oliver  Dyens  was  at  the  meeting  and  spoke  about  cuts,  buying  hospital  etc.   o   Couple  discussions  that  will  get  back  to  this  week    

♦   Started  to  discuss  restructuring  of  SSMU  executives   •   This  week’s  SSMU  Council  Agenda  

o   Students  Life  &  Learning  Team  is  coming  to  meet  and  chat  with  everyone  

o   Presentation  from  Francois  Miller  from  the  McGill  Office  of  Sustainability  to  talk  about   Vision  20/20  (20  goals  McGill  wants  to  meet  to  become  more  sustainable)  

o   Presentation  from  the  Library  Improvement  Fund  Coordinator   o   Motion  presented  about  Ad-­Hoc  SSMU  Election  Committee

♦   Will  be  consulting  with  students  and  other  associations  on  campus   ♦   How  to  make  the  election  smoother  and  safer  for  candidates   ♦   Matt  will  be  applying  for  one  of  the  counsellor  positions   •   Structuring  of  SSMU  Executives  

o   Potential  adding  of  7th  executive    

♦   Execs  are  overworked  (more  than  70  hours  per  week)  

♦   Seems  to  be  cheapest  option  –  associate  VPs  or  part-­time  employees  will  have  

to  pay  hourly

•   Concern:  Extremely  tight  timeline  to  get  things  ready  for  the  Winter  

Semester  

•   A  motion  regarding  this  will  be  submitted  at  next  council   •   In  another  By-­Election  for  VP  Internal  currently  

•   Approved  an  Alternate  Election  Timeline  

o   Elections  SSMU  is  being  J-­Boarded  because  of  the  VP  Internal  Election  that  just  finished   o   This  election  may  be  paused  until  we  get  results  from  the  Board

♦   All  the  responsibilities  will  be  covered,  but  it  is  a  separation  of  tasks  

o   Not  enough  student  consultation  as  of  now,  but  now  is  a  bad  time  as  students  are  starting   to  be  swamped  with  finals.

o   Trying  to  get  International  Students  to  get  involved  with  SSMU

AUS  Council  

•   Equity  presentation   •   Motions:  

o   Motion  to  approve  VP  Finance  Selection  process  constitutional  amendment  Referendum   question  

§   To  stand  for  election  to  the  position  of  AUS  Vice-­President  Finance,  candidates   must  hold  sufficient  qualifications  for  the  duties  and  responsibilities  required  of   the  position,  as  determined  by  a  two-­thirds  majority  vote  of  a  screening  

committee  struck  for  these  purposes.  Decisions  of  the  screening  committee  may   be  overturned  by  a  two-­thirds  majority  vote  of  AUS  Council.  The  composition,   criteria  and  evaluation  methods  of  this  committee  shall  be  determined  by  a  two-­ thirds  majority  vote  of  the  Legislative  Council  and  included  in  the  AUS  Electoral   Bylaws.

o   SNAX  to  sell  sandwiches  and  pastries  for  (renewable)  14  month  test  period  under  some   conditions:  suppliers  would  need  to  be  approved  by  SHHS  (criteria);;  sandwiches  and   pastries  must  be  pre-­packaged  (already  are);;  SNAX  can’t  have  seating;;  SNAX  must   install  new  Point  of  Sale  system;;  SNAX  subject  to  spot  inspections  (making  sure  terms  of   conditions  are  being  met,  needs  fair  way  to  show  agreement  is  followed)  

•   Online  archive  of  listervs    

•   Fleuve-­Montagne  Path,  walking  path  from  old  port  to  the  Mountain  (bring  mountain  down  to

o   It’s  at  the  same  time  as  AUS  holiday  party,   o   Is  it  better  to  do  it  on  the  30th?  

o   Or  is  it  worth  doing  it  at  all?    

§   To  have  two  events  within  a  week  of  each  other  is  a  bit  too  soon,  and  might  not   generate  too  much  of  a  turnout.

•   Travel  Reward  for  NiRC  

-   Looked  up  a  few  different  companies,  delegated  to  members  of  the  committee  

-   Will  be  meeting  on  Friday  to  see  where  they  got   •   Met  with  Red  Bull  again  

•   Talked  to  someone  at  Light  Speed  Retail,  a  new  small  business  in  Montreal  that  helps  smaller  

businesses  more  customer  friendly    

BASiC  VP  Communications  

•   Drafted  up  email  to  AUS  and  SUS  about  their  handbooks  

•   Will  be  putting  together  an  archive  of  the  semester’s  listservs  on  the  website  

•   All  semi  photos  were  posted,  we  got  like  9  more  likes  this  week  which  is  pretty  good  considering  

we  usually  get  about  +1  per  month,  and  a  9700  post  reach  

NiRC  Chair  

 

•   Would  like  to  talk  to  Roscoe  at  some  point  to  discuss  the  travel  reward  discussed  at  last  

Assembly
