Phillips Senior Center construction. OUR MISSION STATEMENT. Current construction on the L. E. Phillips Senior Center has changed the traffic flow for drop-off and pick-up. Please follow these new guidelines to maintain smooth traffic flow.. L. E. Phillips Senior Center is a gathering place for individuals 50+ who reside in the City or County of Eau Claire, to maintain independence through access to programming, which develops skills to enhance their social, emotional and physical well-being. (6) November Virtual Class and Zoom Information. To begin using the virtual center you will need to…. 1. Register for a virtual class. 2. Sign up for Zoom. 3. Join a virtual class. *Call 715-839-4909 if you see “No Record Found” during step 4.. 6. Register for a Virtual Center Class The L. E. Phillips Senior Center “Virtual Center” allows you to stay connected to the Center if you are unable to come through our doors. You will be able to enter a live class while you are at home or traveling using a computer, tablet or smartphone.. 1. Go to lephillipsseniorcenter.com on your device. 2. Look for the smiley face on the home page and click the blue “Learn more” button. 3. A screen with the daily virtual programs will appear, click the green “Login” button. 4. Type in your phone number and birth date as MMDD. For example, August 13 would be entered as “0813”. 5. Click the green “Search” button. 6. Click the beige button with your name. 7. You will see available activities for the day and have the option to see activities for month by clicking the beige “My Calendar” button. Click the gray “Join” button to register for a class. 8. (7) November ZOOM and Virtual Class Information Instructions to sign up for Zoom. You will need to register for a Zoom account to attend Virtual Center Classes, follow the instructions to the right to set up your Zoom account.. What is Zoom? Zoom is a free-to-use video call app that allows you to video call other people using your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. The L. E. Phillips Senior Center uses Zoom for live classes, part of the new Virtual Center. You will be able to watch live classes held at the center and socialize without leaving your home! 1. Navigate to zoom.us. 2. Click the orange button in the top-right corner - “Sign up, it’s free!” 3. Using the drop-down menu, enter your date of birth, then click continue or press enter. 4. Enter in a valid email address, use the same email address you have on your device. 5. Check your email inbox for a verification email from Zoom and follow the instructions. 6. You are ready to use Zoom for virtual classes! When you join your first class you will be prompted to install the Zoom application and sign in with your account credentials (so make sure to write down your username and password).. To join a class, you will need to download the Zoom app on your device. If you have already downloaded Zoom, then don’t worry, your device will automatically open Zoom when you join the class. If you have not downloaded Zoom, you will be prompted to do so. Follow the instructions to download the Zoom app the first time you join.. 1. The day of the class go to lephillipsseniorcenter.com. 2. (12) Reminders, Games & Cards Vehicle Modification Grant. Are you in need of modifying your vehicle for handicap accessibility and safety reasons? Are the costs just too high? The ADRC is happy to announce that there is now a grant available for individuals in need of vehicle modification (up to $5,000). Eligible applicants must be (60+ years), an adult with a permanent disability and/or a caregiver to someone elderly and/or an adult with a permanent disability and an Eau Claire County resident. Applications will be reviewed and granted based on funding availability. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity call 715-839-6259.. Just a reminder…The Senior Center is a Certified Facility Provider for Healthway’s Silver Sneakers, Optum Fitness Advantage and Silver & Fit exercise programs. This means that you, as a participant, have free access to the Open Fitness Area and for some fitness classes, as well as a FREE LEPSC annual membership. If you are enrolled in any of these programs thru your insurance, you can use the L. E. Phillips Senior Center as your fitness provider. Stop in and sign-up at the Front Desk. Provide your full name and date of birth. Once you have signed up with us, scan your card each time you use the fitness center. Silver Sneakers, Optum Fitness Advantage and Silver & Fit exercise programs require the Senior Center to provide documentation of your fitness participation for reimbursement. Scanning your Senior Center card each time is extremely important. If you are unable to scan into your fitness class, please let the staff at the desk know. If you are not sure your insurance carries one of these plans, we can help you find out that information as well.. CARDS & GAMES AT A GLANCE 500 Cards-game focuses on tricks. The winner of the trick leads on the next trick. Once all ten tricks have been played, the hand is scored. Practiced players are welcome to join. Bridge-four rounds of six hands, each is played according to the laws of Contract Bridge. Change partners after each round. Bunco-Popular dice game that is very easy to learn & fun to play. You can just come to play, no need to sign up ahead of time. Cribbage-Game for 2 to 4 players in which the score is kept by inserting pegs into holes arranged in rows on a small board. Pinochle-Object is to make an intelligent bid decision leading to success in making the bid. Sheepshead-played with 7-8-9-10-J-Q-K-A on four suits, for a total of 32 cards. Schmier-a point trick game. Winner is determined by the total value of the cards won in tricks, not number of tricks won. Hand and Foot-is a North American version of Canasta that's perfect for four players, although it can be played by any number of even players. The goal is to get rid of your cards from your hand, then your foot, by laying them down in rows. The team with the highest score at the end of the game wins. Mah-Jongg-game of Chinese origin played with 4 people with tiles resembling dominoes and bearing various designs. Duplicate Bridge-Players compete against each other for each hand played. Volunteers can help weekly, only once a year, or any other number of times throughout the year. Below are just a few areas where volunteers are needed. To date, we have raised over $1,885 through Cell Phone Recycling! We appreciate your efforts towards this fundraiser. Thank-you!. See or call Traci for the following needs: *Greeters—This is a watchful, friendly person at the front desk who is ready to assist those people entering who are unfamiliar with the Center. You might provide tours of the Center as requested & assist with general office work if needed. 8:30am-noon and/or noon-3:30pm *Hostess—to keep our coffee and treat area neat. 7-10am or 10am-1pm *Can you teach—how to make a particular craft item, a foreign language, how to play guitar, a specific content area class or a specific skill others could benefit from knowing? Call the Center and let us know if you would be interested in sharing your talents with our members. *Volunteers—Anyone who enjoys doing handwork or simple sewing of handmade stuffed dolls & animals, such as cutting doll & animal patterns, making doll clothing, hand stitch faces on the dolls or animals.
