Lent is truly the Springtime in the Church. Our Parish Church served as the venue for a life-transforming experience to catholic communities of Eau Claire- the Lenten soul-cleaning! What a joy for us to have had our Shepherd to lead and pray with us on the occasion of 24hours for the Lord! To you Bishop Callahan, we offer our sincerest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation.

I am so happy that our parish Church has been a sanctuary for many during the past two days. It was a joy for me to see many persons and families who came to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. And what more of a blessing to have all the deanery priests, spending several hours at the Confessional. I rejoiced at seeing numerous persons entering Church and making Confessions. Hopefully, each person received the grace to walk away from the Church with a new joy, to start afresh in the journey of life with God. Let us thank God for the blessings!

What an amazing season Lent is!

Liturgically, we are marching close to the central mystery of our faith:

passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. The bulletin has all the details regarding the celebrations during Triduum. I would encourage all the families of the Parish to actively participate in those days with the parish family.

Fifth Sunday of Lent brings our focus to the story of conversion at the experience of the mercy of God. The woman caught in adultery! Jesus holds her life to be more important than the zealous application of law to her. It is important not to miss what Jesus does. Once he saves her from a mob action, he sends her off with clear instructions: “go, and from now on, do not sin any more.” Jesus saves her and offers her the chance to change.

The woman’s conversion is less easy to recognize. She does not dispute the charges against her or try to exculpate herself, and she never questions her need for the forgiveness Jesus offers. Her silence suggests that she accepted Jesus’ command to change her life. What happened ultimately to this woman we will never know, and perhaps it’s just as well for the real focus here is on God’s mercy and forgiveness.

What about the crowd? Outflanked and silenced, they were without words and slowly – one by one – they slipped away. Isn’t their silent dispersal, a clear proof to their conversion too? What about us? Not just this woman, but conversion is our need as well. As Jesus liberates the woman caught in adultery, so he wishes to free us from our sins and our guilt. Let us feel the need of conversion in our hearts. May this season be a time of grace for all of us!

Reconciliation with a hook

An elderly man on the beach found a magic lamp. As he picked it up and started cleaning it, a genie appeared and said: “Because you have freed me I will grant you a wish.” The man responded. “I had a fight with my only and older brother thirty years ago. I want to be reconciled with him so that he may forgive me and start loving me.” The genie said, “I am glad that you did not ask for money or riches. Your wish is granted. Are you sick and about to die?” the genie enquired. “No way!” the man shouted. “But my unmarried, older brother is about to die and he’s worth about $60 million!!”
