School Fees
Thank you to all of the families that have paid or are paying their school fees periodically. Payments can be either by cash, cheque, direct debit (initiated by the school) or direct deposit (initiated by yourself).
We have a number of families that have not made any payments to date this year. Please tend to this as soon as possible. If you are experiencing difficulty with this matter please contact me so that we may be able to come to an arrangement.
Spirituality Day—Public Holiday—School Closed
As you would be aware from previous Newsletters, St Joseph’s Narrandera staff will be participating in a Spirituality Day on the 10th of June with staff at St Francis College Leeton. This day will be a pupil free day. There is a Diocesan requirement that every school in the Diocese participates in one Spirituality Day each year.
Also a reminder that Monday the 13th June is a Public Holiday, school will also be closed on this day.
Road Safety
We really do our best to try and provide a safe environment for your child whilst he or she is at school. We need you to do your bit too. This morning I was informed by one of the bus drivers that he almost drove into a small child and an accompanying adult. The accompanying adult led the child by the hand and walked in front (less than 1 metre) of a moving bus.
It would appear that a reminder is required in regards to where the parent / child pickup zone is – it is Audley Street not Larmer Street.
The bus driver also informed me that at a recent meeting of local bus drivers, a complaint was made that some parents from our school stand on the footpath near the bus zone, talking, and in the process, block the vision of the bus drivers.
Please do your bit to keep our children safe. Use the Audley Street entrance to pick up and drop off your children, and, don’t loiter on the footpath near the bus zone.

A3 Concert
Dear Stage Two and Stage Three families, RE: A3 MUSIC CONCERT
This term, all Stage Two and Stage Three students at St Joseph’s have been taking part in the Music/Dance/Drama program called A3 (Australian Arts Alive). Students in Stage Two and Stage Three at St Joseph’s Leeton, have been participating in the same program. Our students have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity. I have heard tales of students
performing mini concerts at home following the A3 lessons!
On the last Wednesday of this term, June 29, an evening concert will be held in
Narrandera, in the CRC Hall featuring all Stage Two and Stage Three students from both St Joseph’s Narrandera and St Joseph’s Leeton. The purpose of the concert is to showcase the students learning during their A3 workshops.
This concert, which will be free, is open to Stage Two and Stage Three families. Due to limited seating, each participating student may bring two audience members. Once all Stage Two and Stage Three families have indicated whether they will need both their allocated tickets, additional tickets may be made available for families seeking additional seats.
IT IS IMPORTANT WE KNOW HOW MANY SEATS YOU REQUIRE FOR THE CONCERT.
Please write your family name and circle the number of seats your family requires (Limit of two per participant) on the attached slip. Please return the slip by TOMORROW—Thursday June 9th. We will then be able to advise you whether additional seats are
available. Please return even if you do not require seats.
Kind regards, Graeme Urquhart Principal

RELIGION
The importance of Reconciliation
The Catholic approach to the sacrament of Reconciliation is deeply community-
orientated. For us, sin is never a private affair. When one member of the body of Christ hurts, the whole body suffers. We go to Reconciliation to make things right with God, and to be healed with the entire body of Christ too.
Prayer
Rejoice, rejoice in the Lord!
We ring out our joy For the Lord forgives.
Amen
Staff Spirituality Day—Pupil Free Day
Our staff will all gather for our Annual Spirituality Day on Friday 10th June at St Francis in Leeton. At this time, we will be led in a series of workshops by Marist Education leaders as well as some St Francis staff members. Please note this is a Pupil Free Day.
Below is a summary of the workshops in which staff will engage, primarily around the importance and significance of prayer.
Scripture as prayer—Focusing on the power of words as a source and doorway to prayer.
Participants will be invited to choose and reflect upon a piece of scripture for them personally along with a look at 3 popular Christian methods of praying.
Music as prayer—This session aims to highlight spirituality as awareness. It connects sacred with secular and helps us to recognise that God communicates in the everyday moments of life.
Art as prayer—This session leads the participants to recognise that art provides a
vocabulary for entering into prayer with God. We will experience prayer through art using the contemplative prayer methodology of a Visio Divina.
Ecology as prayer—This session leads us to experience a way of prayer which can nourish our relationship with God in everyday life. It deepens our awareness of God’s presence in all creation and allows time to reflect on Pope Francis’ message in ‘Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home’.

IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
The Education Act (1990) requires parents to ensure that children of compulsory school age attend school each day that the school is open for instruction.
When students are away from school for any reason it is a parent/caregivers responsibility to explain the absences of their children within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. If you are aware that your child will be away from school prior to the absence, advance notification is preferred.
Due to recent changes to government policy, commencing Term One 2016, there are now new, more stringent regulations regarding student absences from school.
All parents are asked to take note of the following information:
Staff will monitor unexplained absences on a daily basis.
Should a total of 5 unexplained absences be recorded, your child’s teacher will communicate with you and notify the principal in regard to the absences.
In the event that a child is absent for 10 days in any calendar year, without
justification, you will receive a letter from the Principal in regard to the absences.
If a child is absent for a total of 12 days in any calendar year, without written explanation, a letter is sent to the parents/carers to arrange a meeting. An attendance plan is developed. It is signed by all involved (Principal (delegate), teacher/student welfare, parent/carer and student). Copies of this plan are distributed to all.
If unexplained absences reach 20 days in a school year, a meeting will take place with the student, his/her parents and the principal. This meeting may be attended by representatives from the Catholic Schools Office, Wagga. Legal proceedings may commence.
………
From the beginning of 2015, family holidays are no longer considered under the
Exemption from School Procedures. If the expected absence period is 10 days or longer you are required to complete an Application for Extended Leave - Travel form (A1). This form can be downloaded from our website or collected from the office. Once completed this form should be returned to the Principal. Once the Application has been accepted by the Principal, you will be issued with a Certificate for Extended Leave.
Applications for Exemption from Attendance at School (A2) forms must be completed in advance and now cover absences due to exceptional circumstances, employment in the entertainment industry and participation in elite arts/sporting events.
School Payment Envelopes are available from
the Office.
A group of parents have a Facebook page under the name “St Joey’s Narrandera Parents” for parents of students. This page is administered by parents for last minute information, canteen news
& changes, questions and reminders. Any parents of students at St Joseph’s are welcome to join the
group.
Please note this is an informal means of communication, not an official school site.
If you or someone you know from our School has participated in activi- ties outside of school and you would
like to share it with us, please send your information including a photo (if you have one) in electronic form
to

Biography
They don’t come any livelier than the boy from the bush! Entertaining, motivational and an all-round larrikin; Don represented Australia in the athletics at four World Championships, three Paralympic Games, two World Cups and a Commonwealth Games.
Don Elgin was raised in Tocumwal, and made his first Australian team at 18 years of age, become a World Champion and – a staggering 20 years later – represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games.
One of the longest serving scholarship holders at the Victorian Institute of Sport, Don competed in the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, where he won bronze in the Pentathlon. Two years later he finished with a Silver medal at the 2002 IPC World Championships. At the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games he became a triple Paralympic medallist winning one Silver and two Bronze.
As a respected voice on sport both on and off the track, Don commentated at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and appeared on Andrew Denton’s ABC TV show Enough Rope. The inaugural patron of Disability Professionals Victoria, he is a former president of Sandringham Athletics Club and former vice President of The Amputee Association of Victoria. Don is a founding board member for the Start Foundation and the inaugural ambassador for New Horizons Club, and a current board member for Wallara Australia Ltd.
A natural leader, Don was the Australian flag bearer at the 2006 World championships and went on to become the Australian Track and Field team manager at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. He made a successful return to sport to compete at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. In 2015 Don added author to his credentials releasing his first book called ONE FOOT ON THE PODIUM (which has recently won a silver medal from the independent publishers group) and he completed the Kokoda Trail in early 2016.
Away from the sporting arena Don is a highly sought-after motivational speaker and the founder and director of StarAmp Global, a boutique management Company representing some of Australia’s finest amputee talent.
Don is living proof that with the right attitude, anything is possible. Having excelled in elite sport and mixed it with some of the biggest names in the film industry, he creates powerful, tailor-made presentations based on his real-life experience. Don takes his audience behind the scenes on his extraordinary journey from little bush battler to world-beater.
A personable and very approachable individual, his approach to life has clients walking out with a spring in their step at the end of every presentation. He is upbeat and makes no secret of the fact that he considers himself the happiest bloke alive. And he can’t wait to share his real-life, practical strategies to get the most from every day. His message is one for all ages. Don will leave you in no doubt as to why he is so highly regarded as a speaker and presenter in Australia and internationally.
