Drilling Capabilities Overview

Cameron Drilling Systems Delivered Worldwide for Varied Applications

Varied Drilling Applications

Cameron has delivered complete drilling systems for drillships, semisubmersibles, platforms and jackups. These rigs have rated water depths from several hun-dred to over 10,000 feet and operate from 5000 to 15,000 psi working pressure.

BOP Stack Systems

The vast majority of these rigs are using Cameron’s 18-3/4” TL BOPs in 4-, 5- and 6- cavity body styles. BOP Stack systems also include Cameron collet connectors including the Model 70, HC, DWHC and HCH4 designs.

Riser Systems

The Cameron LoadKing and RF riser systems are being utilized on several of these rigs to meet the demands of drilling in deepwater. Both riser systems accommodate high tension loads and provide for multiple control lines.

Control Systems

Many of the control systems used on these rigs are Cameron Controls’ Multiplex (MUX) BOP Control Systems. Cameron’s MUX system features the lightest weight, most compact pod in the industry today. In addition, Cameron offers the industries only fully

retrievable MUX pods. The popularity of the Cameron MUX control system has made Cameron Controls the industry leader in the supply of drilling control systems. Cameron Controls also offers direct hydraulic control systems for subsea and land applications.

Choke Manifold Systems

Cameron has also provided the manifold systems for these drilling rigs. Cameron provides complete manifold systems from the surface panels to the chokes, valves, actuators and pressure transmitters.

Cameron Puts Experience to Work to Develop New and Innovative Solutions for Future Challenges

Hybrid (Free-Standing Production) Riser System

Cameron’s Free-Standing Production Riser System (FSPR) represents an economical alternative to tradi-tional deepwater development concepts including the steel catenary riser system.

Cameron’s FSPR was installed in 1521 feet (463 meters) of water for an early production system, later retrieved, modified and rerun in 2096 feet (639 meters) of water for a deeper field. This represents the only hybrid riser system installed. Cameron can now supply various hybrid riser options for the free standing riser including towed-out and up-ended and stalked-in designs. Cameron’s options offer the opportunity to decrease the risks and costs typically associated with steel catenary riser systems particu-larly for the larger deeper fields.

The FSPR system was the winner of the 1989 Petroleum Engineer International Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation.

Free-Standing Drilling Riser System

Based on the field-proven Free-Standing Production Riser System, Cameron’s Free-Standing Drilling Riser System (FSDR) provides an alternative to the time-consuming operation of drilling riser deployment and retrieval in deepwater.

In this system, a retrievable upper section and a free-standing lower section are mated 300 to 500 feet (91 to 152 meters) below the surface of the water. When disconnect is required, either in an

emergency or for standard rig operations, the upper section is retrieved and the lower section is left to free-stand on the ocean floor. The retrievable riser section can be pulled in several hours, saving rig time during both retrieval and redeployment.

Cameron’s free-standing drilling riser is the winner of the prestigious 1999 Petroleum Engineer International Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation and provides savings by increasing the operating window, lowering development drilling costs and lowering maintenance costs.

SPARs and TLPs

Cameron has the unique ability to provide a total system for a SPAR or tension leg platform (TLP). Cameron systems are based on field experience and represent the most efficient, cost-effective systems possible for each individual application.

Cameron’s broad scope of supply includes subsea, platform and adjustable wellhead systems, BOP stacks, drilling and production risers (including free-standing, integral and non-integral systems), completion systems, subsea manifolds, connection systems, and drilling and production control systems. Each component, as well as the total system is designed based on the best individual solution for each specific field application. Cameron designs are backed by numerous computer based analysis programs, basin testing and prototype testing, all based on field data collected from instrumentation packages.

Slender Well Systems

The industry trend today is to look for ways to utilize second or third generation vessels for deepwater. Cameron’s Slender Well Systems provide the contrac-tor with the opportunity to do just that. With Cameron’s wellhead, small bore BOP stacks, and reduced bore riser systems, variable deck loads and tension requirements are substantially reduced, and the drilling process is optimized to reduce drilling time.

Hybrid (Free-Standing Production) Riser System

Cameron’s vast experience with both drilling and production systems provides a unique opportunity to design and manufacture integrated systems specifically designed to optimize customer operations. Cameron has provided, designed, or is actively designing Free-Standing Production Riser Systems, Free-Standing Drilling Riser Systems, systems designed for SPAR/TLP applications and Slender Well Systems.

Cameron has designed, manufactured and delivered surface and subsea drilling systems from the wellhead through the manifold to meet a wide variety of customer requirements and drilling applications. These systems are on their way to projects from Africa to the Gulf of Mexico, and represent Cameron system solutions and their array of design configurations.

Collet Connectors and Riser Systems

Collet Connectors

As drilling depths have increased, Cameron collet connectors have evolved to address issues concerning higher internal and external pressures, increasing applied bending and tension loads and extreme operating conditions. Cameron offers four collet connectors:

• Model 70 Collet Connector • High Capacity (HC) Collet Connector

• Deepwater High Capacity (DWHC) Collet Connector • HCH4 Collet Connector

The Model 70 is offered in sizes and pressure ratings for a wide variety of applications. The HC is similar to the Model 70 but is designed to provide greater preload to withstand higher separating forces. The DWHC is a high strength drilling and completion collet connector engineered for the high loads encountered in ultra deepwater applications. The HCH4 connector locks onto an H4 wellhead.

All Cameron connectors offer high strength and stiffness with a direct load path through the connector and metal-to-metal sealing AX gaskets on the collet end ensure seal integrity. Positively driven-open collet segments during unlock ensure that no overpull is required to disconnect. A secondary unlock function is also included in each design.

DWHC Collet Connector HC Collet Connector

Model 70 Collet Connector

Riser Systems

Cameron offers drilling riser systems which accommodate the stringent condi-tions encountered in deepwater drilling including high tension loads, multiple control lines, and the need to respond to changes in surface weather conditions.

The LoadKing™family of riser connectors is designed to meet the demands of ultra deepwater drilling in water depths of 7000 feet (2134 meters) or more. The RF riser connector is designed to meet API 16R requirements with fewer components and higher capacity than other flanged riser connectors.

Today’s Cameron Modular Subsea And Integrated Completion (MOSAIC) systems build on Cameron’s long history of subsea success. MOSAIC systems are a combination of standardized components that fit together in a modular fashion. In the MOSAIC system, six basic elements or component “families” have been designated.

Position Elements

MOSAIC Position Elements include drilling guidebas-es, production guidebasguidebas-es, templates and porches for other MOSAIC elements, like controls and remote connectors.

Position Elements come guideline and guideline-less, with one, two or three slots and in sizes ranging from small for single satellite or offset wells to large, multi-well templates. Templates are simply the

combination of four or more guidebases into a single, pre-tested unit. Any number of wells can be accommodated through multiples of the three basic guidebases. Position Elements are often combined with Distribution Elements, such as manifolds and umbilical termination assemblies, as complete, pre-engineered assemblies.

Pressure Elements

Subsea wellheads and pressure caps are categorized as Pressure Elements in the MOSAIC System. The pri-mary Cameron wellhead is the STM™Wellhead System, which is offered in standard and enhanced deepwater, high-capacity versions. The STM (single trip, metal-seal) wellhead is an all-purpose product for applications to 15,000 psi.

Distribution Elements

Distribution Elements in the MOSAIC system include flowbases, manifolds and umbilical termination assemblies. These assemblies are used to receive produced fluids from multi-well templates or satellite wells in order to control, commingle and divert the flow to a production riser or pipeline.

Pre-engineered MOSAIC flowbases are available for a variety of single well applications such as production satellite, water injector, gas lift production and intermediate daisy-chain base. For two wells or more, pre-engineered MOSAIC components can be configured into manifolds to be used with satellite producers, injectors, daisy-chains and combinations of these.

MOSAIC

Subsea Production Systems

Access Elements

Access Elements include subsea Christmas trees, workover risers, pig launchers and removable pigging loops. Cameron has redesigned its subsea tree products into modular assemblies utilizing pre-engineered subcomponents. These subcompo-nents provide operators with standardized assem-blies, yet allow re-arrangement of the subcom ponents for flexibility in tailoring equipment systems to individual field requirements.

Cameron currently offers a choice of two highly reliable and feature-rich Christmas trees in its MOSAIC system: the innovative Cameron SpoolTree subsea tree, and the Cameron dual bore conven-tional tree. A standard mudline tree configuration is also available.

Control Elements

Control Elements supply power feedback, telemetry and logic to operate other MOSAIC elements. This MOSAIC family includes control systems, chokes, multiplex control modules or pods, Cameron HydraQuad™couplers and ROV panels.

The CAMTROL™ Advanced Multiplexed Subsea Production Control System offers a modular approach to controlling subsea systems. The system is applicable to many field conditions and can be easily adapted for use in deepwater or

shallow water; with trees or manifolds; or with virtually any production scenario.

The CAMTROL system uses common intervention methods for the installation and retrieval of the sub-sea control module, chokes, accumulator modules and multi-phase flow meters. Methods may

include diver-assist, diverless, guideline, guideline-less, ROV assisted and totally autonomous.

The CAMTROL control module incorporates directional control valves which have been miniatur-ized and modularminiatur-ized into a single valve block capable of controlling four functions. Each module can accommodate up to eight directional control valves for control of 32 hydraulic functions.

Connection Elements

Connection Elements include pipeline, flowline and umbilical connection systems and are typically used in horizontal, vertical, diver-assist or ROV-driven applications. MOSAIC Connection Elements utilize common interfaces which allow a variety of different types of connection systems to be attached.

SpoolTree

Production Systems

Modular SpoolTree System Spool Body and Valve Assembly Configurations

In the Cameron SpoolTree design, the spool body provides outlets to attach production, annulus and isolation valves for downhole functions and the electrical penetrator bonnet assembly. The tubing hanger landing shoulder is specially ported to accept control stabs and provides hydraulic continuity between the production control system and downhole hydraulics.

The valves are contained both as an integral part of the spool body, and in mini-blocks external to the vertical bore of the tree. A typical valve cluster includes production and annulus master valve, production and annulus wing valve, crossover valve, workover valve and isolation valves for SCSSV, CIV and other requirements. Assemblies are available for 3” through 7” completions.

Basic Chemical Injection Annulus Crossover

Gas Lift Choke

Production Choke The Cameron SpoolTree Production System is one of

the most widely used trees in the world and offers many time and cost saving advantages over conven-tional tree systems.

Instead of the typical wellhead-hanger-tree stack-up, the SpoolTree design has a wellhead-tree-hanger stackup. In this configuration, the Christmas tree consists of a concentric bore spool with a wellhead

connector below and a wellhead connector profile on top. The tubing hanger is hung off inside the spool on a dedicated load shoulder, and the valves are situated on the side of the spool. No valves are in the vertical bore of the wellhead/tree system. The completion is run after the tree is installed and the completion can be pulled with the tree in place and flowline connections undisturbed.

MOSAIC SpoolTree Production Systems can be configured with a wide array of component choices. The possible combinations of components, available pressure ratings and sizes are virtually endless. The result is a cost-effective system that can be adapted to virtually any subsea job.

The highly successful Cameron Dual Bore Production System has been the number one choice of opera-tors for many years. More than 300 have been delivered worldwide since it was introduced in 1985. Today’s version has been reengineered for modularity and standard interfaces that have been added to ensure compatibility with a wide range of systems and components.

The dedicated annulus bore and vertical full-bore access to both the production tubing and annulus provide several advantages. The tubing casing annulus can be circulated and pressure bled off. This simplifies troubleshooting by enabling annulus monitoring for downhole pressure and temperature, sand production and tubing and packer leaks. Well servicing and well conversion are easier and rig hands are familiar with the running tools. In

addition, one or more electrical penetrators can be provided for downhole pressure and temperature gauges and for electrical submersible pumps.

Versions of the dual bore tree are offered for 5000, 10,000 and 15,000 psi WP and water depths to 10,000 feet. They are used for oil and gas production, gas and water injection service on satellite wells, clusters or templates.
