How to cHeck if i care
Have you considered ways to increase the reliability of your business on the internet
and stand out from the crowd?
1. What is a secure SSL connection?
A secure SSL connection is a protocol that enables the creation of an encrypted secure channel between the user’s browser and a displayed website, so that no one is able to tamper with personal and financial information being sent.

of Internet users have at least once left a website that seemed unsafe.
of them claimed they would not have left the site if it had had a trusted certificate.
2. A secure connection does not mean that the website is
trustworthy.
An encrypted connection does not mean that the website provider is trustworthy. When opening a website we do not know who it really belongs to. SSL certificates issued by trusted issuers are used in order to verify the website owner’s identity.
„This website’s security certificate is not trusted!
Do not proceed – especially if you see this warning for the first
time on this website.”
3. Who is a trusted SSL certificate issuer?
A trusted issuer, such as CERTUM PPC, issues SSL certificates acknowledged as trusted worldwide in the most popular Internet browsers and operating systems. Their aim is to verify and confirm the identity of a person or an organization applying for a trustworthy SSL certificate.
In the event that a trusted issuer finds out that identity information provided by a person or organization applying for a certificate is not true, the certificate is revoked. Then, the revoked SSL certificate receives the „unsafe in the Web” status.
Certificates issued by CERTUM PPC are displayed as safe in all of the leading browsers and platforms.

Google chrome
4. How to identify a website secured with an SSL certificate
Using SSL Certum certificates allows quick verification of website security. This verification can be noticed at first glance with elements present in a web browser:
» prefix https:// before URL,
5. Validation types of SSL certificates
what’s a validation and what’s its goal?
» The activity performed by Certification Authorities aims at confirmation, in a manner which is documented and compliant with assumptions, that an applicant applying for an SSL certificate is the owner of a domain/IP, as well as a business whose data will appear in the certificate.
» Under the PN-EN ISO 9000:2001 standard – validation is a confirmation through providing objective evidence that specific usage requirements have been met.
there are three types of ssl certificate validation:
Domain Validation Certificate
(DV Certificate)
– primary security level displaying an Authentication Authority-verified domain or IP address, which a certificate has been issued for. The applicant’s confirmation of ownership title to the domain or IP address precedes the issue of the certificate.
1
2
Organization Validation Certificate
(OV Certificate)
– provides a high security level, displays verified business or organization data, along with a domain which the certificate has been issued for. Certification issue is preceded with a thorough verification of the applicant’s data, as well as their title to the domain and IP address.
3
Extended Validation Certificate
(EV Certificate)
– the highest security level, where the applicant’s identity is verified in several stages:
• stage i (online verification) – a favourable verification of domain access rights is required from the applicant
• stage ii (document verification) – an applicant is required to provide documents (corporate and identity documents)
• stage iii (submitting an application and a contract) – EV SSL certificate issue requires submitting an application and entering into a contract

In popular browsers a padlock icon symbolizes active SSL connection
https://www.your-website-address.com
Address bar will change from white to green, informing users that the web page uses
the Extended Validation SSL certificate.
The displayed padlock icon means that the connection between the browser and the server is secured. A damaged padlock icon or lack of it means that the SSL
certificate is not used.
The standard HTTP protocol is changed for an HTTPS one, which automatically informs the browser that the connection between the server and the browser
is secured with the use of the SSL certificate.
A green safety bar alternately displays the name of your Company/ organisation and the name of the Certification Authority issuing
your EV SSL certificate. The Extended Validation SSL certificate is the only one allowing for display of your company name in the
address bar of your browser. https://www.your-website-address.com
