The B&B Locks A1-series are high security locks of superior quality. Because of their very solid construction, these locks offer an extreme high resistance against all forms of agression and burglary attempts. The A1 locks are made to allow for a high frequency use. To ensure a fast and precise action, the hardened locking components are driven by a powerful solenoid. This solenoid was especially designed to have the best possible balance between activation and holding current. A low power consumption and very little heating are additional advantages of the new solenoid. Unlocking is done by giving an impulse with a push button, card reader, code, fingerprint or any other type of acces control. Mechanical unlocking is always possible using a key. The automatic locking mechanism guarantees that the door will be locked as soon as it closes.

The A1 locks are available with 2 different types of programmation: BASIC program
SRC program
The SRC (serial communication) programmation was developped in order to be able to communicate more information about the lock to the consumer.
The A1 lock has a 5-pole connector at the bottom of its printed circuit board. This allows for an easy connection of both power and signalisation wires (combined in the B&B A1 BASIC CABLE).
In the A1-BASIC version pin 4 and 5 of this connector serve as the signalisation of the bolt and the door position respectively. These outputs are not potential free (used only to activate a relais or illuminate a LED). On page 15 you can find the instructions of how these outputs can be made potential free if so desired.
Using the SRC programmation the lock gives us more information. It continuously communicates the status of the bolt and the door, but also tells us whether or not the key and the handle are being used. This information is transmitted over a data line, but needs to be translated in order for us to understand it. Therefore we use the SRC-1 interface, which translates this information into potential free outputs (see page 16 for more details).

SECURITY ESCUTCHEON Adding a security escutcheon offers a strong protection against agression on the cylinder. It is a solid casted piece fixed with 2 x M8 srews. CYLINDER BLOCK is casted in 1 piece a n d o f f e r s t h e possibility to use b o t h 1 7 m m e u r o p r o f i l e a n d 2 2 m m s w i s s cylinders.
The are hardened
steel casted parts (HRC45). Their
construction principle is such that when pressure is applied to the bolt, these parts are locking even more. Together with the very high resistance against vandalism and lateral pressure this makes for the best solution in anti-intrusion locking systems.
LOCKING PARTS
The locking components in the A1-lock are
driven by a , which allows for a
very fast locking or unlocking action. It also ensures the lock to go back to its starting position when there is no power; open in fail safe and locked in fail secure version. The solenoid was especially designed to have the best possible balance between activation and holding current, to have low consumption and no heating.
SOLENOID
The intelligence of the lock comes from a microprocessor on the
, which is mounted in a plastic cup and on the baseplate. It is possible to protect the printed circuit board b y c o v e r i n g i t c o m p l e t e l y i n a polyeurathane casted resin. This will protect the PCB against humidity etc.
PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD
Two different types of (both with a cup protecting the ejected bolt) are available. T h e
version has oval holes for adjustment at the initial installation. The version has a movable insert that allows for adjustments any time after installation (to c o m p e n s a t e d o o r imperfections). STRIKER PLATES S TA N D A R D A D J U S T A B L E T h e are very strong stainless steel p l a t e s o f 3 m m (standard) and 6mm ( a d j u s t a b l e ) thickness.
The striker plates have 1
b u i l t i n (invisible), which is detected by a
on the PCB for door detection.

Explanation of parts
· Use B&B A1-BASIC CABLE (2 x 1,5mm² + 3 x 0,22mm² - shielded) !
· Use 24V DC regulated POWER SUPPLY of minimum 2,5A per lock !
· Make sure the distance between the power supply and the lock is maximum 25m !
· Mesure the voltage coming to the lock and make sure that this never drops below 22,8V
(24V DC +/- 5%). (important especially when the solenoid is activated !)
· Make sure the distance between the lock and striker plate is min. 2mm and max. 6mm !
· Make sure the lock and striker plate are installed in a proper matter where the 2 are
perfectly aligned (in closed door position they should be straight accross from eachother, both laterely and in height) !
· Make sure that there is no friction on the bolt when being ejected and retracted (this
should be tested after installation of the rubbers on the profile) !
· Make sure the holes for inserting the cylinder are large enough so the cylinder can be
easily installed without being forced.
· Filings that end up in or around the lock
will be attracted when the solenoid is activated and will eventually damage the lock !
· Make sure the door is equiped with adequate hinges (according to door size and weight)
to avoid « hanging » of the door !
· Make sure the door is equiped with an adequate door closer (according to door size and
weight) !
DO NOT FILE with the lock already installed!
Please note that in order for the lock to function correctly the above mentioned specifications need to be strictly followed. B&B LOCKS S.A. can not be held accountable for on-site interventions and reparations under warranty if the installation was not done according to these specific instructions !
BASEPLATE FIXATION BLOCKS
A1 locks can of course also be installed in existing doors. Since it is not always easy to make very accurate adaptions to a door when you are on site, we have developed
Baseplate Fixation Blocks ( ). Using
these blocks the A1 lock will end up flush mounted on the profile (when profile used is 2mm).

OPTION 1: make the outputs potential free
OPTION 2: illuminate LED s’
The bolt and door signals are transistor switches inside the lock, which are put to GND when activated (max 20mA with 24V DC). These outputs are not potential free!
It is possible to activate a relais switch (which in turn makes the output potential free), or to light up a LED (when put in series with a resistance).
The positive terminal (of the relais or the LED) has to be connected to the +24V DC (= pin 1) and the other side to pin 4 and/or pin 5 for bolt and door signalisation respectively.
When the bolt and/or door signalisation are active they are put to GND (= pin 2) and the relais are activated or the
LED are lit.’s
FUNCTION:
Connect 1 relais to the +24V and the bolt signal. When the bolt is out, the transistor switch in the lock closes, which will activate the relais (so the NO of the relais will be closed and the NC of the relais will be open). The following values can be measured with an Ω-meter:
between C and NO: infinity when open, 0Ω when closed between C and NC: infinity when open, 0Ω when closed

There is 1 main lock (when a lock with handle is installed this is always the main lock), which is programmed with the multi-signal program (SRC - serial communication). The additional locks are programmed with the BASIC program.
the different locks are connected in parrellel (both the power supply and the opening impulses)
all connected locks will unlock simultaneously (both in case of an electrical impulse from the access control and in case of opening of the main lock by key or handle)
in case 1 bolt can be vandalised the other bolts will remain locked
the potential free outputs give all the information about the main lock (position of the door, position of the bolt, key being used, handle being used)
the PS24D52 is strong enough to supply 2 doors with 3 locks each simultaniously
the total length of cable from the power supply to the locks can be 25m max

The normal function of this multi-point locking solution is that each opening impulse (whether given by access control, key or handle) will simultaneously open all locks. This is the case when you put both switch 1 (=key) and switch 2 (=handle) in the ON position.
If so desired it is possible to deactivate the transfer of the opening impulse (from key and/or handle). The main lock will still open but the additional locks will remain in the locked position so the door can not be opened.
The opening impuls given by access control will always open all locks simultaneously.

no current is supplied. Due to its solid construction (massive casted base plate and case-hardened locking components), the characteristics of a security lock are combined with those of an anti-panic lock.
After the door has been closed, the lock will detect the striker plate using a hall sensor on the PCB. Then the bolt is thrown out by a single acting electro-magnet and immediately blocked by means of a deadlock. The lock will now switch from activation to holding current. In order to unlock , a connection must be made, by means of a switch, between terminal clamp 2 and 3. The current to the solenoid is then interrupted by the internal printed circuit board, forcing the bolt to retract by means of springs. The bolt will remain retracted until the door closes and the sriker plate has been detected (when no permanent contact is made between the 2 terminal clamps mentioned before).

Merchandise interlocking units; entrance and communicating doors in public buildings, hotels,

horizontally above the door.
Installation instructions and connection diagram : see documentation.
When installing the lock, make sure there is a proper and spotless recess. Furthermore, make sure the clearance between the cover plate of the lock and the striker plate is at least 2mm and maximum 6mm.
In case of a revolving (180°) door, it must perfectly stop in the 0-position; a door which is not in the exact position cannot be locked. A proper floor spring with adjustable stop and 0-position is a good solution. With these doors it is advisable to provide more lateral clearance. It also goes without saying that both door and doorframe must be sufficiently rigid and that the lock must be firmly installed for correct operation.

Doors that require permanent locking : banks, prisons, post offices, jewelry shops, computer departments, laboratories, exchange offices, etc., but where a mechanical exit using a handle or panic bar should always be possible.
For fire doors it is important that when a power failure accurs when the door is open, the bolt stays retracted so the door can close, after which the bolt will be thrown out and the door will be locked.

Fail secure lock with cylinder block and handle
OPTIONS:
When installing the lock, make sure there is a proper and spotless recess. The cylinder recess must allow easy installation of the cylinder even after the lock has been mounted. This way, there will be no tension on the base plate when the cylinder is tightened.
· Solid striker plate (6mm thick) with adjustable striker cup (a movable insert that allows
adjustments : 2mm to the left and 2mm to the right).
· PCB protected in polyurethane casted resin against humidity, etc. & door detection by 3
Hall-sensors instead of 1 Hall-sensor.
· Security escutcheon with handle SEH-17 or SEH-22 (solid casted piece) fixed with 2 x
M8 screws, offers a strong protection against aggression on the cylinder and gives an extra anchoring for the lock.
· BFB-1: Baseplate fixation blocks
· SMB: Surface mount bracket
· REL-1: Printed circuit board to transform the bolt and door signals coming from the
A1-BASIC lock into potential free outputs.
· SRC-1: Din rail box, which translates the information coming from the A1-SRC lock and
turns them into potential free outputs (position of the bolt and the door, use of the key and the handle).
