Latest Study

In 2013, 2 in-service events of ‘Std 12’ Door actuator blockage

occurred.

Further to these events, Airbus conducted an extensive test

campaign to:

 Reproduce MLG Door blockage on test rig  Define and test potential recovery actions

(12)

Latest Study – Outcomes

 Various recovery procedures were tested on test rig

 The most efficient procedure is the Landing Gear

multiple recycling which cleared the restrictor and

allowed the MLG door to fully open

Latest Study- Final Fix

• MLG door actuator PN 114122014 introduced by Airbus SB A320-32-1407 is confirmed as the terminating action for the repetitive inspections mandated by EASA AD 2013-0288.

Latest Study- Final Fix

• ‘Std 14’ fleet retrofit mandated by EASA AD 2013-0288: The retrofit must be completed:

 By the end of 2014 for ‘Std 12’  By the end of 2015 for ‘Std 07/-/11’

FOT 999.0032/14 A320 Family procedure for landing gear

recycling following L/G GEAR NOT DOWNLOCKED ECAM

WARNING has been issued on 3rd June 2014 to introduce:

• The FCOM WHITE OEB N°44 issue 3.

• The associated QRH OEB procedure issue 5.

FOT 999.0032/14 revision 1 has been issued on 12th June 2014

to change the OEB N°44 classification from WHITE to RED, and

to introduce:

• The FCOM RED OEB N°44 issue 4.

• The associated QRH RED OEB procedure issue 6.

• The AFM TR 437 issue 1.1

(17)

FCOM RED OEB N°44 issue 4.

Extract:

The current L/G GEAR NOT DOWNLOCKED ECAM warning

procedure requires to recycle the landing gear before initiating

L/G gravity extension.

Technical studies have demonstrated that a multiple full

landing gear recycling can help flushing the debris inside the

actuator, leading to a successful MLG door opening sequence

and a successful landing gear extension sequence.

Therefore this OEB is issued to request that, when the ECAM

alert requires the flight crew to perform a landing gear

recycling, the flight crew must perform a full recycling.

Recycling must be attempted up to 5 times, if necessary.

FCOM RED OEB N°44 issue 4

The OEB N°44 issue 4 is cancelled by:

The retrofit of FWC H2F7 (MOD 153741/MP P13023, SB 31-1414),

AND

The retrofit of the MLG door actuator PN 114122014, (MOD 153655

/ MP J3430, SB 32-1407)

FAQ

(21)

FAQ N°1

Which OEB is received if FWC H2F7 is already retrofitted? Answer:

The FWC H2F7 cancelled the OEB N°44 issue 2, but the OEB N°44 issue 4 applies as long as MLG door actuator PN 114122014 is not retrofitted.

OEB N°44 issue 4 can therefore be cancelled within your fleet if you have retroffitted the FWC H2F7.

However, check with your engineering if the MLG actuator standard 14 has been retrofitted.

(22)

FAQ N°2

If all the fleet is fitted with MLG door actuator PN 114122014, (MOD 153655 / MP J3430), does OEB n°44 apply?

ANSWER:

For aircraft fitted with MLG door actuator PN 114122014 BUT with FWC standard earlier than FWC H2F7, OEB N°44 issue 4 applies.

(23)

FAQ N°3

OEB N°44 issue 2 was introducing a quick landing gear recycling, what is the Airbus landing gear recycling policy after cancellation of OEB N°44 issue 4? Answer:

The Airbus landing gear recycling policy consists in a full recycle. That is:

-

Select landing gear lever up

-

Wait for landing gear to uplock and doors to close

-

Select landing gear lever down.

This long landing gear recycling applies to all procedures requesting a landing gear recycle.

(24)

FAQ N°4

The requirement of recycling L/G Lever for 5 times, if necessary, and then flying from Holding Point to FAF with L/G at DOWN position is contributing to increased fuel burn which results in a high risk of declaring Emergency due to FOB going below Minimum Fuel Required.

Answer:

The requirement of recycling the L/G for 5 times, if necessary, is left to the captain judgment and is based notably on FOB evaluation.

At any time, the flight crew may decide to perform the landing gear gravity extension and if it is not successful, the Landing with Abnormal landing gear procedure.

(25)

FAQ N°5

Why the WHITE OEB N°44 issue 3 has been updated into RED OEB N°44 issue 4?

Answer:

Airbus decided to classify this OEB RED because the non-adherence to the procedure of multiple long landing gear recycling may have a significant

(26)

FAQ N°6

Why the QRH RED OEB procedure associated with the OEB N°44 issue 4 is tagged issue 6?

Answer:

For documentation management purposes, the QRH OEB procedure has been released in the Airbus documentation management tool two times, leading to an automatic update of the issue.

The QRH OEB procedure issue 3 and issue 4 does not reflect any technical update.

The QRH OEB procedure issue 6 reflects the RED OEB N°44 issue 4 operational recommendations.

(27)

FAQ N°7

When the FCOM, QRH and AFM xml and pdf documentation will be available for download on the Airbus World portal?

Answer:

The FCOM, QRH and AFM documentation regarding the FCOM RED OEB N°44 issue 4 and the associated QRH RED OEB issue 6 are currently

processed and will be gradually available for download on the Airbus World Portal.

Conclusion FAQ

(29)

Conclusion

The damping assy damage is confirmed to be the root cause of the door

actuator slow motion / blockage

The MLG door actuator ‘Std 14’ is confirmed to be the technical solution.

OEB N°44 issue 4 is published to introduce a new operational technique in

case of ‘L/G GEAR NOT DOWNLOCKED’ ECAM warning:

Up to five full landing gear recycles are required before applying the landing gear gravity extension procedure.

This OEB is cancelled by the embodiment of FWC H2F7 and the retrofit of the MLG door actuator standard 14

FOT 999.0032/14 issue 1 has been issued to communicate on the OEB N°44

issue 4 and its associated QRH OEB procedure and on the AFM TR 437 issue 1.1

(30)

 OIT 999.0074/13 rev 01 (May 2014) updated with these latest developments

 FOT 999.0032/14 has been published on 12th June 2014 to provide the

operational recommendations.
