GOALS, OBJECTIVES, AND OUTCOMES

Washington State GEAR UP Grant 3 Goal, Objectives, and Outcomes

Goal: Significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

Objectives Outcomes

Objective 1.

Increase the academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education for GEAR UP students.

75% of students pass Pre-algebra by end of 8 th grade.

75% of students pass Algebra 1 by end of 9 th grade.

85% of students complete two years of math beyond Algebra 1 by 12 th grade.

90% of 8 th grade students complete the EXPLORE.

90% of 10 th grade students complete the PLAN.

80% of students complete the ACT/SAT by the end of 11 th grade.

40% of GEAR UP students will have an unweighted grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Objective 2.

Increase the rate of high school graduation and participation in postsecondary education for GEAR UP students.

85% of GEAR UP students on track for graduation at the end of each grade level.

85% of students graduate from high school on-time.

45% of GEAR UP students and former GEAR UP students are enrolled in college.

60% of GEAR UP students place into college-level math and English without need for remediation.

Objective 3.

Increase GEAR UP students’ and their families’ knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation and financing.

80% of students have knowledge of, and demonstrate, necessary academic preparation for college.

70% of parents of GEAR UP students actively engage in activities associated with assisting students in their academic preparation for college.

70% of families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

(FAFSA).
