Apprentices:

School-based apprentices

The relevant minimum wages for full-time junior and adult apprentices, calculated hourly, will apply to school-based apprentices for total hours worked including time deemed to be spent in off-the-job training. The wages for training time may be averaged over the semester or year. School-based apprentices progress through the relevant wage scale at the rate of 12 months progression for each two years of employment as an apprentice.

Proficiency Payments:

Applicable to junior apprentices only

Should the apprentice attain a standard approved by a State or Territory accredited training provider, they shall receive in addition to the prescribed weekly wage:

(1) For the course requirement passed at that standard $6.07 per week (17¢ increase) (2) For the second course requirement passed at that standard $12.14 per week (34¢ increase) (3) For the third course requirement passed at that standard $18.22 per week (52¢ increase) Payable on and from the beginning of the first pay period commencing in January following the examination.

Where the approved training for a part-time traineeship is undertaken solely on-the-job or partly on-the-job and partly off-the-job, the relevant minimum wage minus 20% applies to each ordinary hour worked by the trainee.

* By agreement, school based trainees may be paid an additional loading (subject to transitional provisions) in lieu of annual leave, personal leave and paid absence on public holidays – Schedule E.6.1 Graphic Arts Printing and Publishing Award 2010.

A trainee undertaking a school-based traineeship may, with the agreement of the trainee, be paid an additional loading of 25% on all ordinary hours worked instead of paid annual leave, paid personal/carer’s leave and paid absence on public holidays, provided that where the trainee works on a public holiday then the public holiday provisions of the award will apply.

AQF Certificate Level IV traineeships – Wage Level “B”

The minimum wages for a trainee undertaking a time AQF Certificate Level IV traineeship are the minimum wages for the relevant part-time AQF Certificate Level III traineeship with the addition of 3.8% to those minimum wages, subject to E.5.2(f) and E.5.3 – Schedule E.5.2(e)(i).

Allowances:

Visual display terminal allowance: $35.31 per week ($1.00 increase)

Inserting allowance: $21.18 per week (59¢ increase)

First aid allowance: $14.33 per week (40¢ increase)

Meal allowance: $13.00 per meal (35¢ increase)

District allowances:

The following district allowances shall be paid to adult employees:-

(a) Northern Territory $16.60 per week (no change) North of the 20th parallel of south latitude

$6.78 per week (no change) South of the 20th parallel of south latitude

Apprentices, Junior Artist and/or Designers (including Junior Commercial Artists and non apprenticed juniors) shall be paid the same percentages of district allowances as are fixed for their normal weekly wages.

Part-time employees shall receive district allowances on a pro rata basis. Casual employees shall receive 1/38th of the appropriate district allowance.

No district allowance shall be payable during any period of annual leave or other leave.

Casuals:

Casual loading: 25%

A casual employee working ordinary time must be paid the appropriate hourly rate for the work being performed plus the casual loading.
