Chapter IV

Data analysis and Results

In order to provide accurate and truthful data, researcher collects primary and secondary data and questionnaires are sent to 100 sample size and 96 respondents come out from them between July-November in 2016. The collected data; 96 respondents are analyzed by statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) version 21 and then calculates the frequency, percentage, mean, mode and standard deviation.

4.1 Demographics and Frequency Table

Firstly, in the section 1, the questions are set to generate the demographic information about respondents containing gender, age, marital status, education background, occupation and monthly income as well. Those demographics and background of respondents are analyzed with descriptive and frequencies analysis.

4.1.1 Gender

The result of the statistic are counted as female 52.1% and male follow 47.9%, that is why, the mean and standard deviation of descriptive statistics are 1.5208 and 50219.

4.1.2 Age

The table shows that the respondents are 20-30 years old (44.8%), 31-40 years old (41.7%) and 41-50 years old (13.5%) and that states mean 2.6875 and standard deviation 70056.

4.1.3 Marital Status

According to the tables of Marital Status, most of respondents are single 51.0%, married 39.6%, widowed and divorced/ separated are 3.1%. That indicates mean and standard deviation are 1.7292 and 71788 respectively.

4.1.4 Education Background

According to table of education background, high schools level are 8.3%, college degrees holder 50% and graduate degree or higher levels are 41% and that indicates X=3.3333 and SD=.62688.

4.1.5 Occupation

Related to occupation background, the table shows that professional administrative are 16.7%, managerial commercial are 35.4%, personal /clerical labors workers are 15.6% and others are 5.2% and X=2.5729 and SD=1.10258.

4.1.6 Monthly Income

Monthly incomes are minimum 1.00 and maximum are 4.00. Less than $3000 are 42.7%, $3000 to 6000 are 27.1%, over 6000-9000 are 22.9% and over 9000 are 7%.

4.2 Attracting Factors

Second section is set to find out the correlation of independent variable; attracting factors, the mode of transportation and the mode of accommodation and dependent variable;

Inle Lake tourism industry. This section gives to respondents in order to gain answers about the attracting factors, transportation and accommodation staying at Inle Lake region and its tourism industry. The questions are given as open-ended and are divided into single choices and multiple choices in order to discover the validation and apply to reality. Among them, attracting factors come out head of other two factors; transportation and accommodation and their statistic points.

According to frequency and percentage of the main factors that attract international tourists to visit Inle Lake has 46.9%, Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda has 4.2%, floating garden has 19.8%, Idein has 11.5%, Nga Hpe Kyaung monastery has 4.2% responded respectively.

On the other hand, arrival time of tourists to Inlay Lake are as follow; first time tourists are 32.3%, second times are 34.4%, third time tourists are 21.9%, fourth time are 6.3%, fifth time tourist are 3.1% and others are 2.1% resounded.

According to Tourist information to Inle Lake, Some tourists from travel agency are 22.9%, internet informations are 47.9%, family and friends are 20.8%, newspapers are 3.1 and TV/ radio are 5.2 %.

4.3 Transportation

In order to get the result of transportation, researcher finds the table of transportation which returned by respondents and the result are as below: most of visitors got by car at 63.5%, by air at 29.2% and some came by way of train at 7.3%, and X=1.7813 and SD=.56574.

Accordance with the statistic of respondents, most of visitors choose their mode of transportation by means of comfortable at 47.9%, convenient at 24.0%, low-cost at 17.7% and to be secure at 10.4% and that states X=2.4063 and SD=1.04204.

To measure tourists’ satisfaction, researcher has set out the questions related to tourists’

satisfactoriness regarding transportation and the answers are satisfied at 64.6% and somewhat satisfied at 35.4% and that indicates X= 1.3542 and SD=.48077.

4.4 Accommodation

For the statistic of accommodation, respondents mention that tourist most frequently stayed at hotel at 51.0%, and average gusts stayed at guest-house at 25.0% and apartment/Bungalow at 24.0%, that counts mean 1.7292 and standard deviation .82691.

The statistic table shows that majority of visitors prefer to stay comfortable and convenient places while some choose to economical places. Their reasons that enforce to book accommodation at percentage are such as comfortable places at 47.9%, convenient places at 26.0%, to reduce cost at 20% and prefer to get clean rooms at 5.2% and that brings about the X=2.3646 and SD=1.08695.

According to the table of tourists’ satisfaction towards accommodation services in Inle Lake tourism industry, 65.6% of respondents were satisfied with the services of accommodation and 34.4% of respondents mentioned somewhat satisfied and that gives mean 1.338 and standard deviation .47745.

To know the visitors’ length of stay at Inle Lake, researcher asked respondents and majority of respondents 72.9 percent planned to stay 1-6 days and only 27.1 percent of respondents answered Non-stay at Inle Lake and that states mean 1.72.92 and standard deviation .44672.

Referring to table, the result of independent variables tourists attractive place to Inle Lake is X=2.9167 and SD= 2.22742, tourists arrival times visiting to Inle Lake is X=2.1979 and SD=1.17536, tourists transportation to Inle Lake is X=1.3542 and SD= .48077, and accommodation for tourists staying at Inle Lake is 1.7292 and SD= .82692 which mean 100%

are strongly positive of survey at Inle Lake according to responded of tourists.

Regarding to analysis of correlation results, the Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed that the attractive factors of tourists at Inle Lake were .358, the visitors arrival times of Inle Lake were also .358 at the statistical significance level of 0.01. So the transportation and accommodation that were significantly relation with Inle Lake and attractive factors.

4.5 Comments

This section sets to inquire the respondents’ recommendation and valuable suggestion with respect to this survey and about Inle Lake tourism industry so that this study will be perfectly and precisely along with the respect of beneficial of readers and Inle Lake tourism sector. Some comments praise the nature and beauty of Inle Lake saying that “it is amazing and wonderful world of Myanmar because there are floating villages, gardens, ancient temples and pagodas, fisher folk by unique way of leg-rowing boats, traditional way of lives and vast of bird migration” and some are giving constructive feedback such as “hope to be more cleaner and greener and maintain that essential feature of Inle Lake, display corporate culture among local people and visitors in order to conserve the Inle Lake and its nature and beauty”.
