Ventilation System

Respiratory therapists and caregivers interact with many disparate systems that don’t share data, exacerbating challenges with accessing actionable information at the point of care. That’s why caregivers can spend up to 35%

of their time per shift on redundant paperwork,1

and consider logistical challenges as primary contributors to time spent away from patient care.2

Furthermore, variation in clinical practice is difficult to track and measure for most hospitals. To ensure best practices are followed, hospitals need analytics and reporting systems so that education can be provided, and necessary changes to processes and practices can be made.

CareFusion is focused on providing our customers with

A new system approach

to ventilation

In today’s complex healthcare environment, ensuring respiratory therapists and caregivers have access to actionable information, and an efficient workflow process, can be a challenge. CareFusion offers a new, innovative approach to respiratory care by combining our industry-leading AVEA®, VELA® and EnVe™ ventilators with new interoperability and analytics software to better address clinical and operational challenges in patient care.

Taking a system approach, the CareFusion Ventilation System helps customers optimize respiratory therapy to improve workflow, operational efficiency, patient care and costs.

Applications to improve

workflow and reduce variability

The CareFusion Knowledge Portal for ventilator therapy is an analytics and reporting tool that enables hospitals to measure clinical and process variability in ventilator therapy by providing hospitals with actionable information to help clinicians improve patient care. Reporting capabilities focus on ventilator weaning and notifications on important patient trends to measure compliance with best practices. Reducing variation in how respiratory therapy is conducted helps improve safety and lower costs.

Initial reports include:

• Weaning Analytics

Future reports include*:

• Lung Protective Strategies Analytics • Ventilator Operational Analytics

* These reports are currently unreleased products, and the company may

Documenting ventilator therapy

with accuracy and efficiency

The CareFusion Respiratory Documentation Application is a handheld positive patient identification application that automates the collection of ventilator documentation data at the point of care. After collecting this data—such as ventilator status, vital signs, breath sounds and clinical observations—the clinician signs-off, and it is wirelessly transmitted to your hospital’s electronic medical records (EMR) system. By automating this process, documentation of therapy is more accurate and efficient compared to manually entering the information into a computer.

The CareFusion Respiratory Documentation Application:

• Provides an easy-to-use and efficient tool to document ventilator therapy

• Enables more efficient and accurate documentation of ventilator therapy

• Collects and stores ventilator data with the CareFusion Coordination Engine

• Presents ventilator documentation data to third-party EMR applications

Fusing connectivity and

services between your

ventilation and HIT systems

CareFusion offers unique connectivity with many hospital systems to ensure successful integration so data can flow seamlessly between systems. The CareFusion Coordination Engine (CCE) provides a centralized integration solution for all CareFusion products, consolidating multiple pieces of hardware into one application that resides on existing hospital virtual or hardware environments. Enhancing our proven technology, the CCE provides IT-friendly options for more flexible installation.

The CareFusion ventilator connectivity system consists of the CCE and ventilator connectivity adapter. The connectivity system captures data from compatible CareFusion ventilators at the point of care and seamlessly transmits this information to the CCE. The CCE is also compatible with Capsule Technologies and other third-party connectivity applications as a means to collecting the ventilator data.
