MĂRGĂRIT-MIRCEA NISTOR

Career objective: Become a professional researcher in Earth Sciences

PERSONAL INFORMATION

RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITY

My principal research interests lie in the Earth Sciences. I earned a BSc degree in Geographical Sciences at the

University of Babeș-Bolyai in 2010 and in 2012 I obtained the MSc degree in Geomatics Sciences at the University of

Babeș-Bolyai, from Cluj-Napoca.

My scientific activities have been concerned mainly with: GIS applications for ski tracks projections and tourism

arrangements in Western Carpathians; geology and geomorphology studies in Prince William Sound and Denali

National Park, from Alaska; remote sensing in Dolomites Mountains, in Northern Apennines, in meadow of Po River;

glaciers changes in Passage Canal using satellite images. In recent years I have been occupied above all with the

impact of climate variations on water resources, which were the main topic for the PhD work. During 2013-2016 I

attempting the doctoral school program of “Earth System Sciences: Environment, resources, and cultural heritage”

from University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, in the geoengineering specialization.

During PhD studies I investigated the impact of climate change and land use on groundwater at transnational scale of

South East Europe and in northern Apennines of Emilia-Romagna region. The objective was to define the quality and

quantity indicators for groundwater resources and to assess the vulnerability of the groundwater by the multi-layers

analysis in ArcGIS environment. In the northern Apennines, the groundwater resources were assessed in the mountain

springs using the continuous monitoring of spring discharge, electrical conductivity, and temperature, but also the

chemical analysis of water samples were done. Based on physical and chemical data the vulnerability was calculated

through Meinzer Variability Index, Discharge Half-Time method, and VESPA Index.

I was the GIS researcher and analyst in the CC-WARE European Project during 2013-2014, for the South East Europe

region. I was GIS researcher and analyst in the DRINKADRIA European Project in 2015, for the Adria region.
