A modern and seamlessly networked transportation system
The canton of Zug features a trend-setting, seamlessly networked transportation system. Public buses and the urban railway are perfectly net-worked and provide ideal connections to residential, leisure and working areas from the hubs of Baar, Zug, Cham and Rotkreuz.
The service providers in the transpor-tation sector include Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) for public buses and Schweizerische Bundesbah-nen AG (Swiss federal railways – SBB) for the urban railway.
Public transport in the canton of Zug
Buses – ZVBZVB is the concession-holder for the bus network in the canton of Zug, in-cluding bus lines in the cantons of Schwyz, Lucerne and Aargau. Every day, around 100 vehicles operate for 19.5 hours, carrying an average of 70 000 passengers on working days. The urban railway – SBB

Comfortable vehicles
The modern trains of the urban railway and low-step buses make getting on and off easier, especially for passen-gers with pushchairs and persons with disabilities. Traveling on ZVB buses and the urban railway is a real pleasure thanks to the air-conditioned interior and the smoothly running vehicles. Passenger information system All bus and train units are fitted with dynamic on-screen passenger informa-tion systems, providing the passengers with all the necessary information, in-cluding the destination, next stop, ar-rival time and connection to other bus and train routes.
Future projects
The current bus system is constantly being further developed and improved to make it a perfect complement to the train system (express trains and city railway). Transport capacities in the canton of Zug are set to increase fur-ther in the future, with continuous im-provements made to passenger com-fort and space (by means of new vehicles) and – where appropriate – preferential lanes for public transport will be introduced.
Tarifverbund Zug ticket association
The Tarifverbund Zug ticket association covers the entire canton of Zug and the neighboring areas: Sins, Sattel, Arth/ Goldau, Kappel/Hausen, Knonau, Sihl-brugg, Küssnacht/Immensee and Hütten/Schindellegi.
The Tarifverbund Zug ticket association amalgamates all public transport orga-nizations in the canton of Zug with a view to providing a customer-oriented ticketing service to passengers in the canton of Zug and the surrounding areas.
The Tarifverbund Zug ticket association offers real alternatives in terms of mo-bility. The right ticket for every need: whether it’s a daily commute to work, a weekend trip or traveling to a sporting or cultural event.
The zone ticket gives you as many trips as you like within the zone(s) rede-emed and within the time printed on the ticket, on all public transport ope-rated by Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe AG, Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, Zugerbergbahn AG and Post Auto Schweiz AG. Zuger Pass Plus(annual ticket) The Zuger Pass Plus annual ticket gives customers free travel on all public transport within the redeemed zones of the Tarifver-bund Zug ticket association for 365 days.
Zuger Pass(monthly ticket) Valid for a month from issue for individual zones or all zones within the Tarifverbund Zug ticket associ-ation.
Single ticket and multi-way ticket
A single ticket is valid for travel in all directions within the selected zone(s) during the validity period printed on it. The multi-way ticket contains six tickets for the price of five.
Day ticket and day choice ticket
A day ticket costs the same as two single tickets or a return ticket, while the day choice ticket gives you six day tickets for the price of five.
Group ticket
Groups of 10 or more can benefit from a reduced group rate.

Z-Pass
The neighboring associations of Zug, Schwyz and Zurich and the SBB have developed the Z-Pass card, a combi-ned ticket option based on a system of zones, to simplify cross-canton travel starting or finishing within what are known as corridors (zone areas). The Z-Pass card is available for any combi-nation of zones and valid on all public transport within the selected zones (single ticket, annual ticket, etc.). For corporate customers, the Z-BonusPass is available.
Inter-Abo Zug/Rotkreuz – Lucerne
The Inter-Abo card (monthly or annual ticket) is the ideal ticket for regular travelers between the two cantons of Zug and Lucerne. As well as the stretch from Zug or Rotkreuz to Lucerne, the Inter-Abo card also covers the zones in Lucerne and/or Zug or Rotkreuz.
Kombi-Pass and day ticket Zug/Schwyz
The Kombi-Pass card and the combi-ned day tickets join the two ticket as-sociations of Zug and Schwyz.
Night services on weekends
Zuger Nachtexpress (bus)
On Friday and Saturday nights, the Zu-ger Nachtexpress night bus takes night owls from Zug Bahnhofplatz to the vari-ous parts of the canton of Zug.
Night connections (train)
The night connections bring party fans safely home late at night and into the wee small hours. The trains, which re-quire a night surcharge, operate on the routes from Zurich to Lucerne and back, stopping in Baar, Zug, Cham, Rotkreuz, Gisikon-Root and also in Ebi-kon when heading for Lucerne. There are three trains running every hour from Zurich main station and two from Lucerne.
Night surcharge
Travel on the Zuger Nachtexpress night bus and on night trains requires a night surcharge of CHF 5.00 in addition to the normal ticket price.
Park and ride
Covered bike racks as well as car parks right next to the SBB stations in Baar, Zug, Zug-Schutzengel, Cham, Hünen-berg-Zythus and Rotkreuz allow ideal use and combination of the range of transport options available.
Schifffahrtsgesellschaft für den Zugersee AG
Schifffahrtsgesellschaft für den Zuger-see AG (SGZ) has a modern fleet provi-ding the perfect boat for every occasi-on and group size, whether it is a scheduled trip, a gourmet evening cruise, a music cruise, a Sunday brunch cruise or numerous other op-tions. The boats can also be hired for private celebrations, such as weddings and birthdays, or for corporate events. Leaseholder Zürcher Kulinaria AG is responsible for on-board catering. Ägerisee Schifffahrt AG (AeS) has two relatively small, nostalgic boats and a new, large motor launch. The idyllic lake Aegeri offers a wide range of diffe-rent options: relaxing on a snacks and drinks cruise, treating yourself to a gourmet evening cruise or spending an entertaining afternoon playing the typi-cal Swiss card game typi-called «Jass». Other highlights include Sunday brunch cruises and private and business events. Passengers on lake Aegeri are spoilt by Gastronomia Ägerisee and its amazing attention to detail.
Leisure options
Zugerbergbahn AGZugerbergbahn AG (ZBB) takes you to Zug’s local mountain. Bus no. 11 takes you from Zug station to the Schönegg valley station and from there, the trip up the Zugerberg mountain (925 m above sea level) lasts just a few minutes. The wonderful views from the Zugerberg mountain extend as far as the foothills of the Alps. Discover the recreational area by taking a walk, visiting the children’s play area or enjoying a cozy lunch. In winter, you can also go cross-country skiing or tobogganing.
