2.3 Installation

Starting the installation

The installation process starts automatically after you insert the installation DVD. If this does not occur, you can also use the "Splash.exe" file to start the installation. This file is located in the root directory of the DVD.

Components

The following components are available for installation: 1. StoragePlus Server application

2. StoragePlus Web application 3. StoragePlus View Editor

Notes regarding Installation

Observe the following notes when installing the components of StoragePlus: Always maintain the given setup sequence. Otherwise, problems may occur at a later time.

If you have already installed some of the components, you should first uninstall these components and then install all of the components again. The default installation folder is in the directory "C:\Program

Files\Siemens\StoragePlus". If WinCC is already installed, this folder will be used as the installation folder.

When the installation of the StoragePlus application is complete, the Start menu of the operating system contains a new folder in the "Simatic" program group. You can run the StoragePlus application from this folder.

2.4 Installing the StoragePlus Server Application

General information

The StoragePlus Server application represents the core of the StoragePlus system, and its installation is thus required.

Requirements

• You must have administrator rights for installing the Microsoft SQL Server.

Installation

You start by specifying the destination folder for the database and the log files. It is advisable to save the log files to a different hard disk drive in order to optimize system performance.

If you have problems logging on, contact your administrator.

If a database file already exists in the specified path, you can add a database or install a new template over the database file. This overwrites the old file.

Information about WinCC File Server and the StoragePlus Server application

Observe the following notes regarding the file server and the StoragePlus Server application:

Do not operate a WinCC project on a computer that has StoragePlus installed on it.

After you uninstall StoragePlus, you must also uninstall WinCC/OS Client in its entirety.

4 How to Adapt the System Performance

Use of virus scanners

A virus scanner must not be activated while StoragePlus is running. The scanning operation can adversely affect the performance of StoragePlus.

Changing process priority

Changing the system performance for programs Windows 2000:

1. Select the menu command "System Properties > Advanced > System

Performance Options > Optimize System Performance for > Select programs".

Windows 2003 and Windows XP

1. Select the menu command "System Properties > Advanced > System Performance > Settings > Advanced > Processor Scheduling > Select programs".

Changing the process priority of the SQL Server

1. Select the directory "Programs > Microsoft SQL Server" Start the "SQL Server Enterprise Manager".

2. Select the entry of the server (instance) in the "SQL Server Enterprise Manager" under "SQL Server Group".

3. Open the properties dialog of SQL Server.

4. Select the menu command "Properties > Processor > Processor Control". Select the "Boost SQL Server priority on Windows" check box.

Adaptation of memory resources in SQL Server

WinCC SQL Server instances usually allocate 25% of the RAM to SQL Server. We recommend that you set the value to 75%.

Select the menu command "SQL Server Enterprise Manager > Properties of SQL Server > Memory tab".

When the PCS 7 system setup program is run, the PCS 7 Toolset containing the "Pcs7adaptsqlmemoryx.exe" tool is installed. This tool adjusts the memory allocation for SQL Server to approximately 75% of the available RAM each time the computer is restarted, provided that StoragePlus is installed.

Backup / Restore strategy

(14)

12 Printout of the Online Help Readme

The following recovery models are available in the SQL Server for the SQL Server backup:

• Full [StoragePlus default] (best practice, for this generates large SQL log files)

• Bulk logged

• Simple (restores only the data up to the most recent SQL backup; very small log files)

Use "SQL Server Enterprise Manager" to backup the SQL database and log files. Select the menu command "SQL Server Enterprise Manager > SQL Server Group > Server entry > Management > Backup" to start the backup.

For additional information, refer to the Online Help for SQL Server.

Verification of free hard disk space

We recommend that you check the hard disk capacity periodically.

WinCC backup configuration

Do not set up an alternative backup path in the OS archive configuration when using StoragePlus. StoragePlus cannot monitor such an alternative backup path. If the OS is unable to access the StoragePlus drive, all data are stored on the OS servers and copied at a later time. If the size of the ring buffer (time period across all segments) is reached, the data on the OS servers will be overwritten.

Settings

Question

The backup database and database are created on the same drive. Where can I change the drive of the backup database?

Answer

The settings are read from the "Common\StoragePlus.Config" file during startup. The archiving service uses this setting to distinguish between the paths where the backup database and the database are created.

According to the database, you define separate folders for the data file and for the log file of the backup database

The directories are specified using the following parameters:

• <database path > - Directory where the default database data file (*.mdf) is to be generated.

• <log path> - Directory where the database log file (*.Ldf) is to be generated.

• <backup path> - Folder for the backup database file (*.mdf)

• <log backup path> - Directory where the log file (*.Ldf) of the backup database is to be generated.

The values for the <backup path> and <database path> parameters are identical after installation.

The values for the <log backup path> and <log path> parameters are identical. The new settings are applied when you create a new backup database. These changes do not influence any of the existing backup databases.

6 Important

Information

Displaying BATCH Reports

BATCH Reports are saved in xml file format. Use the "BFREPORT" program in the BATCH Report Viewer to open the "*.xml" file type.

Archiving WinCC report files

Reports not accessed within the previous 10 minutes are either copied or deleted. This setting prevents copy or delete operations while new reports (EMF files) are being created.

This time-based function protects only reports (EMF files), and not their

corresponding directories. This prevents the deletion of a folder that is created by a print job but does not yet contain any data.

Message in the application log:

The system closes the archive file when it reaches its set volume and creates a new open archive file. The following MSQL message is entered in the application log each time this occurs.

"Could not allocate for object '<xxxxx>' in Database 'SPB_<xyz>' because 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full."

Expanded function in the "Advanced" dialog box

In StoragePlus V1.2, the "Advanced" dialog box in the StoragePlus Administration Console has been expanded to include the "Migration V1.0->V1.1" function. This function enables you to convert a StoragePlus database from a StoragePlus Server (V1.0, V1.1, or V1.2) for use on a central archive server (CAS). This function is only available if StoragePlus was included as part of a PCS 7 CAS installation.

Requirements

For the installation, the database name, the database installation directory, and the database log installation directory must match the existing StoragePlus settings. For example, if you used the "DB01" database, you must use the same database name for the installation.

Procedure

1. In the "Advanced" dialog box, click "Start" for "Migration V1.0 > V1.1". 2. Select WinCC.
