Their Description

Mittes Backpacker Hostel boasts a super central location. We are just a 10 minute walk from main station, Museum Island,

Brandenburg Gate and Friedrichstrasse.

The color orange – warm, friendly, trendy, funky, fresh - no wonder it’s the chosen color of Mitte’s Backpacker Hostel. The first Backpacker hostel in Germany represents the original pure Australian backpacker flair. The reception area with the bar and the cozy atmosphere is distinctly laid back and relaxed. All rooms are decorated of young artists like Underwater Room or 4Elements Room and

The Hostelz.com Review

A friendly and somewhat social hostel with a sitting area (including beanbag chairs) and bar. There is also a TV room. The whole place is decorated with an art-deco look and it's really very nice. The largest dorm room (the "penthouse") is at the top of 5 flights of stairs with no elevator, so it's a long hike to your room if you've been walking around all day.

There are dim sleeping lights in the large dorm that never turn off, so you might have trouble getting rest if you need darkness to fall asleep. The shower in the main dorm room has a private changing area but

Awesome

This place was very clean, nice people who worked there, and very understanding about last minute people coming in late. No complaints other than people's alarm clocks going off early in the morning, but it's understandable if people have to make train times.

I stayed here in June 2006. We were a group of three and we stayed in a triple room. The staff were friendly enough and the location was pretty good, with a U Bahn and an S Bahn stop within easy walking distance. The lobby was a good place to hang out in, with many fellow travellers about. Overall, a good stay.

I stayed here with some friends in the huge 32 bed room. That sounds terrible, but it surprisingly wasn't too bad. They'll keep your bags in a locked room for free. You can hang out downstairs in the lobby if you don't mind repetitive music. I think it'd be a pretty decent

unintimidating place for a solo traveller. Location was fine too, easily reachable by metro.

I stayed at this hostel in July 2005 and really enjoyed it. I met tonnes of really nice and cool people. Great location, just a few meters outside the underground station. Bathrooms: cleaned daily, hot

showers. Staff: friendly and helpful Rooms: no air conditioning, but bright, fairly spatious, some lockers are available in the halls. Kitchen: there's a nice big communal kitchen next to the lounge. I cooked in there every day. Only once did I have a problem with someone stealing my bread. Ask the staff where the cheapest grocery store is. Lounge: the lounge is a great place to hang out and meet people. Although cheaper internet access can be found elsewhere. Overall, I loved Mitte's and I loved Berlin.

I stayed there last week for two nights. This hostel is amazing! The staff were very friendly and helped us with everything we needed (directions, recommendations, information about public

transportation, etc.). We stayed in a six-bed room, which was great (the Underwater Room). The football-table (I have no idea what it's really called in English) was awesome! (It's free!) They sell soft drinks and snacks for very reasonable prices. The location was also great, a five to ten-minute walk to a street with lots of bars, restaurants and so on. There's a Subway station three minutes away also, so you're practically close to almost anywhere you want to go. I would definitely go back! Me and my other three friends highly recommend Mitte's Backpacker Hostel!

I just want to let anybody considering staying at this hostel know that they should really think twice!! We had a reservation and they returned the money we already paid in advance just two weeks before we were supposed to stay there. The f***ed-up thing is we only found this out just one day before we left (we used another account), because those idiots didn't send an e-mail or made a phone call to inform us. We made a telephone call then asked for an explanation. They told us they were fully booked and there was no way we could stay there. There had been some mistakes made and well, actually they responded very rudely, like they didn't care that their stupidity was causing us that much trouble. So for anybody who wants to stay there and thinks everything is ok because you have a reservation and made a deposit, you could be wrong!!

Beautiful, clean, central, and very friendly. I really enjoyed my stay. Even though it feels like a big warehouse it has a really nice common area and a good social vibe. I stayed in the Marlene Dietrich room.

Comment by Eric June 2005

This is a nice place if you're looking for a place to replenish your sleep, especially if you're coming from Amsterdam. But if you're like me and want unending craziness, then I don't suggest Mitte's. I met a few cool people here, but for the most part I saw unwelcoming clicks of locals. The amenities and staff were great nonetheless.

I stayed at Mitte's in May. You should go for the small dorms (five or nine beds), which have funny themes and decorations. The large dorm was a bit crowded. Staff are just amazing! They're very busy but still able to pay attention to your needs, explaining Berlin's Labour Day marches while serving drinks in French and doing a check-in in Spanish. Besides, the music played there was just awesome! I definitely recommend it!

Friendly staff, clean rooms/bathrooms, and a great social/TV area around the front desk.

Comment by Anonymous February 2005

I really enjoyed this place. The dorm room had lots of beds in it but it didn't feel crowded. There is a very cool bar and common area downstairs. It has a really good kitchen, and it is really well priced. Also, it is really close to everything, and there is a Metro and tram stop outside the front door. Berlin is a great city; plan to stay longer then you expect.

Comment by Flower February 2005

This hostel was nice as far as the staff and the room decorations are concerned. Yet, I didn't like the smell of the underwater room! Nevertheless I enjoyed staying there, because it was cheap, the atmosphere was comfortable and apart from that I thought it was a great idea to appeal to the visitors with a free entry for the "H2O" club!!!

Comment by The American July 2004

I loved this hostel. It was amazing, with friendly staff, great prices, and awesome decoration, but it is definitely meant for the younger travelers. Everywhere you look you see there is some sort of creative artwork, and tons of cool sitting areas aimed at just hanging out. And, of course, the three best things any teenager could ask for in a hostel: cheap, great location, and no curfew. I will definitely go back.

Comment by Anonymous April 2004

This hostel was okay. The staff weren't very nice and the rooms were too crowded. It had a good location though.

Comment by Colin April 2004

Nice hostel, but the penthouse room at the top isn't great. I stayed here in the summer and would definitely recommend it.
