ClearCube’s Smart Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (SmartVDI™) host platforms scale from 100s to 1000s of virtual desktops, with optimized high availability storage and low cost-per-seat

configurations. SmartVDI hosts complement ClearCube’s zero clients and BladePCs in CVDI and VDI projects to provide you with a single vendor solution with desktop-to-datacenter vision and accountability.

SmartVDI seamlessly fuses core elements such as VMware, View, ESXi, and VCenter into a ready-to-run compute/storage solution that is scalable, highly available, and incomparable. Each SmartVDI host functions as multiple ESX hosts in a VMware ecosystem – you just configure the appliance, connect it to the network and provision the desktop pools.

SmartVDI addresses the key challenges of VDI deployment through a single dashboard with real-time analytics. SmartVDI offers rapid deployment of a virtual storage appliance (VSA) across the vSphere cluster based on simple user inputs. Upfront planning of storage tiers provides better predictability of performance, capacity utilization, and reliability. Based on Open Source ZFS file system, SmartVDI allows you to create unlimited, dedicated storage tiers for a specific data type and manage it all centrally under one management group.

SmartVDI blends compute/storage into a VMware VDI-cluster-in-a- box that will smoothly launch you into private Desktop Cloud Computing. There are up to four compute/storage nodes per chassis. Utilizing an integrated, scalable and high availability architecture, SmartVDI’s network attached storage (NAS) delivers SAN-like unified storage capabilities with simplicity, and huge cost-savings. SmartVDI’s most important feature is the ability to tune performance in the software and accelerate the desktop demand for low latency response times and IOPS. Leveraging system RAM as a first layer cache device, additionally, second level cache devices, such as SSDs, can be incorporated as well. Utilizing local solid-state drives (with data tiering to hard disks) provide high performance at low cost. External storage may also be used for high availability configurations and can incorporate specialized memory adapters for caching.

Management

SmartVDI™ addresses the key challenges of VDI deployment through a single dashboard with real-time analytics, offering rapid deployment that takes hours instead of days to get implemented.

To deploy a pool of desktops, questions are presented as to which desktop template to use, how many desktops are desired for the pool, and which storage profile should be applied. Tightly integrated appliances automatically are optimized specifically for VDI workloads and management.

A series of performance-driven tests are available to run on the desktops themselves, outputting the results for evaluation by the administrator. This guarantees that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met and that resources are not over-subscribed.

Administrators set the number of desktops to deploy and the maximum size of the pool, along with a desktop template. The Wizard within SmartVDI rebalances those desktops with respect to storage locality and provides them to end users. Advanced analytics closely monitor the deployment, and these metrics provide valuable, granular insight to the performance of storage, desktops, and hypervisors. Administrators can evaluate information presented by the performance metrics and leverage the

“rebalancing” feature.
