I am experiencing this exact same problem, and here's the thing: There is NO installation log file. It doesn't even get to the point of creating the log file.

1. Downloaded the file after it asked me where to put it.

2. It asked me if I wanted it to change files on hard disk. I let it do that.

Then, absolutely NOTHING. No action, NO LOG FILE, N - O - T - H - I - N - G happened. Doesn't even show up in Task Manager briefly.

Manually ran the SETUP.exe file, same result.

Repeated process, this time with a different version of SQL Server 2014 Express - exact same result.

Double checked all .NET frameworks in place - not a problem after verification.

It's broken, plain and simple.

dropbox, winamp, super anti spyware free, avg free, visual studio community edition 2015 32 bit, my sql community edition 64 bit, 5.7.2, then i come to install sql server developer 64 bit from http://www.dreamspark.com as a it studenting doing programming course certificate iv from http://www.upskilled.edu.au, and wanted to install sql server developer 2014, well it got about 50%or 40% and then just gets stuck, waiting for about another 4 hours, so sql server never installed on windows 10, and tried sql server express 64 bit. so, tried looking at my system restore points and only goes back a couple of days, does not go back to when i installed windows 7, then windows 10 on october 16 or 17. so any ideas how to fix this. just want to either install sql server 2014 64 bit developer or sql express with tools 64 bit and also management studio. so any one had these issues. tearing my hair out. well did get a message in the action centre maintanence and security, said it did a scan, as used a third party registry cleaner, used c cleaner, and now saying to restart my machine to fix hard drive errors. so, any one got any ideas why i cannot install sql server. did a few projects, when i had windows 8.1 enteprise 64 bit from my lectuer, as windows 8.1 was supposed to come with my toshiba satellite pro c-50-a laptop, but the dvds never came, so my lectuer gave me windows 8.1 64 bit enterprise, as need to do a couple of c # projects, using the windows store and phone apis.

then rolled back to windows 7, then to windows 10. so this is the only piece of software, out of 30 or 40, did not install. any ideas. marvin.

SA is disabled by default. You need to connect with an account that is a local administrator in the first instance (windows authentication), then configure other accounts.

The Standard edition is the same, but there are some limits of what can be used. Just read up on the differences so if you are developing for Standard you don't use features only in Enterprise version.
