The pedagogy will consist of lectures and hands on practice sessions. Participants will be provided individual computer terminal for practice sessions and a CD containing study material and Excel templates for developing real-world applications. Learning by solving Example: We believe that the best way to learn spreadsheet modeling is by working through examples and solving real life cases. This program fully develops this hands-on, active learning approach, wherein participants build financial models, using simple built-in Excel functions.

Building from Simple Examples to Real-World Applications: The general approach is to start with simple examples and build up to a practical, real-world application.

Program coverage

The program will cover important concepts of finance and how to convert the real –world applications into Excel Spreadsheet Models. The participants are not required to be an expert in computer applications but some familiarity with basic features of Excel is desirable. In any case, few sessions will be exclusively devoted to make participants familiar with basic features of Excel Spreadsheet.

About the Workshop

Spreadsheet models have become a must for academicians teaching finance courses as well as for corporate executives working in the field of finance and investments. Microsoft’s Excel is one such spreadsheet application which is ubiquitous and is being used extensively.

This workshop would provide training on how to use Excel 2007 and/or 2010 to analyze financial data and understand the models used in the field of finance. The models include Forecasting Financial Statements, Capital Asset Pricing Model, Valuation models using Discounted Cash Flow techniques, Credit Risk models like Altman’s Z score, to name a few.

 Tools like Scenario Manager, Pivot Table, Goal Seek, Solver, Data Table  Certain Statistical and Financial Functions

 Analysis and Forecasting of Financial Statements  Time Value of Money

 Valuation using Discounted Cash Flow Techniques

 Estimating Risk, Return, Beta, Cost of Capital of a listed Stock  Capital Budgeting

 Credit Risk Analysis

 Option and Option Portfolios

The program is designed for research scholars and academicians who are actively engaged in

teaching and research using Financial data

Corporate executives who are creating a foothold in the areas of finance and investment research

Prerequisites for participation

Although basic concepts will be reinforced in the program by way of theoretical inputs, it is

highly desirable on the part of participants to have enough exposure in Business Processes.

Program Fee

Rs. 3,000/- (Rupees Three Thousand only) for two days which includes course fee, course

materials, lunch and refreshments.

For groups of three or more persons, a discount of Rs. 250/- (Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty

only) per head will be provided.

Program Faculty

Prof. Jasbir Singh Matharu is an Assistant Professor at Institute of Management Technology, Nagpur for

the last two years. He has obtained his MBA degree from Griffith University, Australia and his M.Com. degree from Calcutta University. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D program from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi. He has an experience of around 5 years in stock markets and 10 years in academics.
