The Environmental Performance Evaluation of Ahwaz Pipe Manufacturing Company within the Environmental Management System

international ISO organization has offered ISO 14001 to internationally develop standardizations and to coordinate the global affairs and by doing so it has contributed a lot to the environmental approaches development. This standard has provided the organizations with the elements of an effective environmental management system (EMS) through the integration of which with the other management necessities and requirements assist the organizations in achieving the environmental and economic objectives [1]. From among the advantages of such a managerial system one can refer to the followings: the reduction of the unpleasant effects originating from the organization operations on the ecology, the increase in productivity and services and actions outputs, the increase in the energy effectiveness, energy savings, the utilization of the clean energies, the replacement of the renewable resources, the application of less-contaminating substances and material in the organizations [2]. Therefore, to heighten the systems’ performances inside the organizations correct managerial solutions should be offered in order for the organizations to enjoy the systems advantages. After several years of the establishment of such systems in the organizations of our country we are continuously bearing witness to the ineffectiveness of such systems but even with the great benefits originating from the establishment of such systems in the organizations these systems maintenance is of a great value upon which the environmental performance of the organization rests. Ahwaz pipe- manufacturing company is a business entity committed to the followings:

Using Balanced Scorecard to Improve Environmental Management System

Using Balanced Scorecard to Improve Environmental Management System

As ISO 14001 standard is quite flexible it allows great adaptability in its implementation. It is for this reason that some organisations have adopted the standard with an aim to improve their environmental performance, while others in orde to enter new potential markets and to satisfy their customers. It is not rare that Environmental Management System (EMS) is adopted in parallel with others management systems: that will drive the organisation to inefficiency. The balanced scorecard management performance system is a very suitable tool for the assimilation of ISO 14001 in everyday activities and across the whole management system. Therefore, the research presented in this paper focuses on an analysis of EMS integration into the classical model of the Balanced Scorecard. It is suggested that in this way organisations could improve environmental performance through the implementation of the strategy.

A Review Paper on Environmental Management System

A Review Paper on Environmental Management System

An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a methodical methodology for joining vitality and natural objectives and needs, (for example, vitality use and administrative consistence) into routine operations. While some kind of true framework is inborn to any association that should meet vitality and ecological prerequisites as a major aspect of day by day operations, it is for the most part acknowledged as a profitable stride to formalize the methodology by reporting it. Not just does documentation of the framework guarantee consistency after some time and crosswise over workers, there is a developing assortment of proof showing that there is impressive worth in characterizing a precise way to deal with overseeing vitality and natural objectives.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND ISO: 14000

International Research Journal of Management and Commerce (IRJMC) ISSN: (2348-9766) 46 | P a g e has not fully involved all countries or levels of business. Some consumer and environmental organizations may well be skeptical of voluntary standards and there is a large measure of capacity building required to be created. These standards are not yet mandatory but optional. The ISO: 14000 series of standards has been designed to help enterprises meet their environmental management system needs. They have been under development by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) since 1991. They consist of a set of documents that define the key elements of a management system that will help an organization address the environmental issues it faces. The management system includes the setting of goals and priorities, assignment of responsibility for accomplishing them, measuring and reporting on results, and external verification of claims.

Environmental Management Accounting Model on the Basis of Environmental Management System in Leather Industry

Environmental Management Accounting Model on the Basis of Environmental Management System in Leather Industry

Abstract—Environmental management system (EMS) is a useful approach for improving the environmental function of organizations. Since the main decisions of environmental management depends on the costs and benefits of the suggested changes in the environmental behavior of the firm, Environmental management accounting (EMA) seems to be an essential and fundamental step for establishing an efficient environmental management. EMA is unfortunately most likely ignored or not enough discussed in neither management nor environmental fields, especially in developing countries. Therefore, this research aims to implement the environmental management accounting in a leather factory of Iran. Furthermore, this practical research introduces a suitable and practical model for implementation of EMA in the mentioned industry. Leather industry is considered to be a polluting industry and has harmful impacts on the environment. Thus, EMA can be quite helpful in this regard.

A Methodology to Develop the Integration of the Environmental Management System with Other Standardized Management Systems

A Methodology to Develop the Integration of the Environmental Management System with Other Standardized Management Systems

Traditionally the global management system of an organization is frequently split into a number of individual management systems that are defined and implemented according to specific man- agement systems standards (MSSs) as well as managed independently. The individual implemen- tation of MSSs is an option that leads to several inefficiencies and sub-optimization of the global management system of an organization. As referred by ISO [1] the interested parties’ require- ments increase. A more effective and efficient option for an organization is to integrate, into an integrated management system (IMS), the implementation and management of requirements of multiple MSSs. Certain difficulties are associated to the structuring process, implementation, veri- fication, evaluation, improvement and progressive development of an IMS in the organizations. Several scholars have proposed various theoretical approaches regarding the integration of indi- vidual management systems (MSs) leading to the conclusion that there is not a common practice for all organizations as they encompass different characteristics. This paper aims to present and justify a designed methodology to be used by organizations to support the integration of various MSs. Among them are highlighted: the Environmental Management System (EMS) according ISO 14001 [2], the Quality Management System (QMS) according ISO 9001 [3], and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH & SMS) according OHSAS 18001 [4]. The methodology was designed in the context of a Portuguese company, on sequence of an organizational diagnosis and a research that was performed through a questionnaire. The strategy and the research methods took into consideration the case study.

Global trends in environmental management system and ISO14001 research

Global trends in environmental management system and ISO14001 research

The International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) standard provides a guideline for an organisation to perform a continuous improvement to their environmental performance. In light of continued concerns over global environmental impacts and climate change, the ISO 14001 standard serves to demonstrate organisational commitment to sustainable production processes. The objective of our paper is to determine the thematic and geographical trends of published EMS research with a view of developing a coordinated and holistic research framework which can be applied to facilitate the adoption of ISO 14001 in developing and developed regions of the world. Drawn from a portfolio of 509 articles from the Web of Science database, this study investigates the global trends of ISO 14001 EMS research between 2000 and 2016. The results show a considerable in- crease in scientific publications; from 10 articles in 2000 to 58 articles in 2016. Three themes were identi fi ed from the analysis: socio-ecological (60%), economic implications (25%), and environmental aspects (15%). In addition to a concentration of articles towards the socio-ecological theme of research, it is found that the majority of the published research derived from Europe (40%), North America (21%), and China (11%). Articles authored by researchers from developing countries were poorly represented in the findings. In order to address the thematic and global imbalance of EMS research, a research framework is proposed that promotes multi-stakeholders inclusion (e.g. industry, academics, government, etc.), cross- country research collaboration and a focus on demand-driven approach for problem solving and policy- making.

How Does Implementation of Environmental Management System Contribute to Corporate Sustainability Management

How Does Implementation of Environmental Management System Contribute to Corporate Sustainability Management

Corporate sustainability management (CSM) and its implementation appears to be crucial theme in post-crisis society. The main idea of CSM is to harmonize organizations and their actions with the natural environment (including minimization of resource usage, recycling, reuse, regeneration, recover, remanufacturing, minimum or zero waste, purifi cation and symbiosis) and social aspects and impacts. The importance of this topic has stimulated research into the problems of CSM concept and classifying terms used in the sustainable fi eld. Authors mainly mention following factors infl uencing CSM concept: the amount of commitments of shareholder, the humanism paradigm, the corporate culture, the management ability to establish good relationship with all stakeholders, and the internal conditions that are in accordance with the demands of the concept of CSM. The paper provides results of the literature survey and based on primary survey. The aim of the paper is to identify what determinants of sustainability management are examined in the literature and discuss the contribution of environmental management system (EMS) to CSM based on experiences of selected Czech organizations with implemented EMS according to ISO 14001. The research paper is supported by analysis of secondary and primary data sources. To fi nd signifi cant outcomes, deduction, induction, and synthesis were applied. The data for the survey was gathered from 222 organizations (N = 1265) who have already implemented EMS. The survey focused on approach to the sustainable development and corporate sustainability, implementation of EMS and perceived benefi ts of EMS. The results show there is a basic knowledge of sustainability concept in the surveyed Czech organizations. Perceived improvements of EMS implementation in Czech organizations are mainly in the area of environmental performance (74%), economic performance (59%), relationship with involved parties (54%) and social issues (51%). Based on the implementation of EMS, the organizations take care about corporate sustainability (about the areas of environmental aspects and impacts of the organization). Activities, workfl ows, production and services are realized with regard to their environmental aspects and impacts. Due to the implementation of EMS are areas of environmental protection and environmental aspects and impacts solved and managed by organizational management on regular basis. All employees are involved in the process of continuous improvement. Thus implementation of EMS positively allows organization to integrate environmental aspects into the management system and to improve environmental performance. Improved environmental performance has been linked with process and product cost improvements and lower risk factors. Certifi cation helps to satisfy investor and another stakeholder demands for organization accountability.

The implementation of an environmental
management system in the not for profit sector

The implementation of an environmental management system in the not for profit sector

The total cost for EMAS implementation is calculated to be £345,000: comprising £242,600 (investment in improvements) + £84,500 (full KTP) + £7,800 (short KTP) + £10,500 (staff cost). We therefore find that the cost of implementing EMAS is 60% higher than the cost benefits that were realised over four years (£345,400 compared to £215,000). These costs do not include the annual cost of operating the management system, estimated at £12,000 for the continued part-time employment of the KTP Associate. However, the on-going cost analysis should also recognise the additional revenue gained from the award of new business and the continued benefit of reductions in gas, electric and water costs. Furthermore, gaining EMAS certification has paved the way, through the development of a formal environmental

The limitations and opportunities to implement environmental management system in Malaysia

The limitations and opportunities to implement environmental management system in Malaysia

It was found that the companies will take some time to fully comply with the requirements of EMS. The feedback reveals that more than half of the companies had included environmental policy and carried out a preliminary review. However, areas notably inadequate include failure to have an integrated or documented environmental procedure and to have an environmental manual review. Almost half of the surveyed companies do not have a proper job description for their employees and this shows that there is lack of communication between the top management and their sub-ordinates on the environmental issue. This corroborates with observations made by Sarmila and Suraiya, (2003) when they did the survey of the IS0 14000 implementation in the Malaysian building and construction industry.

The Application of Environmental Management System (EMS) Principles to Watershed

Each EMS pilot could be des igned to ad dress spec ific water resources problems within a well-defined watershed. The process of designing each EMS pilot will en gage all stakeholders within the w atershe d, whic h, in turn, helps ensure broad acceptance of problems to be solved, resulting resource management activities, potential changes in resource pricing, and new roles and responsibilities for ma nage men t. Typically, a watershed- level EM S results in decentralized institutional roles and local actions that cannot be achieved through centralized approaches. Thus it has the perspective of influencing the significant vision of changes that occur all over the planet, being disseminated by globalization. In the context of sustainable socio-environmental management and its impacts, consumers are becoming more informed and demanding by charging companies, environmental initiatives and results. The commitment to sustainability and the use of environmentally responsible practices results in improved systems performance (Murugesan, 2008). It is necessary to evaluate the need to measure the best suitability of the environmental management in counterpart to increase the performance of the hardware to obtain effective results in the management of digital waste. In corporate management the good practices of corporate governance in sustainable environmental management have a focus on the use of Green IT to meet the needs of the company and stakeholders. Among the specific governance standards for green companies are the Global Report Initiative (GRI) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) with the 14,001 standard that guides, specifies and helps in the improvement of an environmental management system (Makower, 2009). The precepts of sustainable environmental management and information technology have been in correlation in the modern formation of the companies, being vital to the maximization of the results its conscious use of Green IT (Lunardi, Alves and Salles, 2012).
