Specify anexistingbackup_imagefilesystem thatcontainsasingle,

previouslycreatedbackupimage.Themksbcdcommandwillthen usethis imageratherthanrunninga newbackupduringthemksbcdprocess.Do notspecifythe-Mbackup_imagewhen usingthisflag.The SysBackbackup utilizedwith thisflaghadtohavebeenoriginally backeduptoafileusing the/usr/sbin/sysbackcommandANDhaveusedthe -2,-zcdsize,and -Z maxsize commandflags. Thisflagisoptional.

-spkg_source_dir

Specify thedeviceordirectory containingAIXdeviceand/orkernel support filesetsinthebffcreateformatforuseineithercreating boot imagesorforuseasPostInstallDevice support.Thisflagisrequiredwith the-Gallflagand optionalwith anyother-Gflag combination.Seethe-G flagfor additionaldetails.

The SMIT menufield equivalenttothis flag is: LocationofSoftware Packages to copy to CD/ DVD.

-lpackage_list

Specifiesa filethatcontains alistofadditionalsoftwarepackagesthatwill be storedinthe/usr/sys/inst.imagessubdirectoryofthecd_fsfilesystem.

The -lflagrequirestheuseofthe-spackage_source_dirasthese packageswillbecopied fromthatfilesystem ordevice.Thiswouldbe usefulwhenthereareAIXfilesetsthatyouwouldlike tohaveinstalled, but arenotconsideredrequireddeviceor kernelsupportfilesets. Youmay also storeotherthirdpartysoftwareproductthatyouwouldliketobe automaticallyinstalled.

-ctermdev

Specify thisflagtoindicatethenameofa terminaldeviceonwhichto displayvolume promptmessagesformulti-volumebackups.Thismaybe usedforlocalorremotebackupvolumeprompting.Example device names:

/dev/console (System console /dev/tty0 (ASCII Terminal)

/dev/pts/1 (Usually a window in an AIXwindows environment.) This flag isoptional.

WORKSPACEFLAGS:

-Mbackup_image

Specify thenameofanexistingfilesystemtobe usedinplaceofthe defaultbackup_imagefilesystem.Youmustensurethatthereisenough spaceinthisfilesystemasoutlinedinthesectionentitled“Space”onpage 5-2

-Ccd_fs

Specify thenameofanexistingfilesystemtobe usedinplaceofthe defaultcd_fs filesystem.Youmustensurethatthereisenoughspacein this filesystem asoutlinedinthesectionentitled“Space”onpage5-2.If this flagisnotspecified,thedefaultcd_fsfilesystemcreatedis

/mksbcd/cd_fs.Ifthereisnotenoughspaceinthis filesystem,themksbcd commandwillenlargethefilesystemwith theAIX/usr/sbin/chfs

commandtomakeitlargeenough.Ifthechfscommandfails,then sowill mksbcd.Also, thisfilesystemwillnotbe automaticallyremovedbythe mksbcdcommand. However,it’scontentswillberemovedunlessyou specifythe-R C flag.Thisflagisoptional.

The SMIT menu field equivalent to this flag is: Filesystem to store CD / DVD file structure.

Note: The″backup_image″and″cd_fs″specifications maynotbe thesame.

-Icd_image

Specify thenameofanexistingfilesystemtobe usedinplaceofthe defaultcd_imagefilesystem.Youmustensurethatthereisenoughspacein this filesystem asoutlinedinthesectionentitled“Space”onpage5-2.If this flagisnotspecified,thedefaultcd_imagefilesystem createdis /mksbcd/cd_image.Ifthereisnotenoughspacein thisfilesystem,the mksbcdcommandwillenlargethefilesystemwiththeAIX/usr/sbin/chfs commandtomakeitlargeenough.Ifthechfscommandfails,then sowill mksbcd.Also, thisfilesystemwillnotbe automaticallyremovedbythe mksbcdcommand. However,it’scontentswillberemovedunlessyou specify the-R I flag.Thisflag is optional.

-RCMI

Specify thisflagwhenyoudonotwantthemksbcdprocesstoremoveone ormore ofthedefaultcreated filesystems. Specifyoneormoreof the followingcombinations:

C Do not remove the cd_fs file system M Do not remove the backup_image file system I Do not remove the cd_image file system This canbe specified as-R CMI or -R"C M I". Thisflag isoptional.

The SMIT menu field equivalentto this flag is: Do not remove the final CD images.

-Vvgname

Specify thisflagwhenyoudonotwantthedefaultbackup_image,cd_fs,

and cd_imagefilesystemscreatedintherootvgvolumegroup.Thisonly appliestolocallycreatedfilesystems.Thisflagisoptional.

-F vgname

Specify thisflagwhenyoudonotwantthedefaultbackup_image,cd_fs, and cd_imagefilesystemscreatedintherootvgvolumegroup.Thisapplies tocreating thesefilesystemsona remotesystemandwould onlybe specified inconjunctionwith the-Hhost or-h hostflags.Thisflag is optional.

The SMIT menu fieldequivalent tothis flag is: Remote VolumeGroup for creation of file systems.

HOST OPTIONS:

-h hostname

Specify thisoptionwhenperformingbackupstoa remoteCD/DVD device.Thiswillcreatethebackup_image,cd_fs,andcd_imagefilesystems onthelocalsystemand the"cd_image"filesystemontheremotesystem.

Youmay optionallyusethe -Fvgnameflagtospecify whichvolumegroup ontheremotesysteminwhichtocreatethe cd_imagefilesystem.

The SMIT menu fieldequivalent tothis flag is: Build Temp WorkSpace(s) on.

-H hostname

Specify thisoptionwhenperformingbackupstoa remoteCD/DVD device.Thiswillcreatethebackup_image,cd_fs,andcd_imagefilesystems ontheremote system.Youmayoptionallyusethe-F vgnameflagtospecify whichvolume groupontheremote systeminwhichthe3filesystemswill be created.

The SMIT menufield equivalenttothis flag is: HostnameofCD/DVD Server.

BACKUPCOMMANDFLAGS:

-iID AbackupfileIDisusedtocreateauniquefilenamewhenwritinga backuptoa diskfileduringthemksbcdprocessing.ThedefaultIDcontains thecurrentdateandtime.Youmaychangethisfieldtoanyvalueyou desiretodescribethebackup.IfyouchooseanIDthatisalreadyinusein thespecifieddirectory, youmust alsochoosetoOverwriteexistingbackup withsameID,the-Oflag,or thebackupwillfail.Thisflagisrequired.

The SMIT menufield equivalenttothis flag is: BackupfileID.

-O If thespecified Backupfile ID,the-iIDflag,isalreadyusedtonamea backupinthespecifieddirectory,youmustusethisflagtoallowtheprior backuptobe overwritten.Otherwise,youmust chooseanotheruniqueID orthebackupwillnotcontinue. Thisflagisoptional.

The SMIT menufield equivalenttothis flag is: Overwriteexisting backup with same ID?.

-A ThisflagmaybeusedinsteadofusingboththeBackupFileIDand the OverwriteexistingbackupwithsameID combinationtogeneratea dynamically createdbackupfileidbasedonthedateandtimeatthe command’sexecution.Thisoptionisusefulwhenthemksbcdcommandis scripted andscheduletorunoversomeinterval.Thisoption takes

precedence overtheBackupFileID andOverwriteexistingbackupwith sameIDoptionsandisparticularlyusefulwhenschedulingthiscommand ina backupscript.Thisflagisoptional.

-d description

Youmayenterinthisfieldanyinformationupto60characters.This informationdoesnotaffectthebackup, butiswrittentothebackup volume labeland willappearwhenthevolumelabelisread.Youmaynot usethesinglequotecharacter(’)inthis flag.Doingsowillresultina syntax errorwhenthebackupcommandisexecuted.Thisflagisoptional.

-E exlcude_list

Enterthefullyqualifiedpathandfilenametorepresenttheexclude list.

Specifyingafilenamewithoutspecifying thepathnamewillcause SysBacktolookfor theexcludelistfileinthedirectory/usr/lpp/sysback.

Leavingthisfieldblankwillcausetheproducttodefaultto /usr/lpp/sysback/.exclude_list.Thisflag isoptional.

The SMIT menu fieldequivalent tothis flag is: Exclude List FileName.

-g vginfo_file

Specify thenameofa previouslycreatedLVMinformationfilecustomized forthis backup.Seethe/usr/sbin/mkvginfocommandinAppendixA,

“Commands,”onpageA-1formoreinformationoncustomizedLVM informationfiles.Thisflagisoptional.

TheSMIT menufieldequivalenttothisflagis:noequivalent,command lineonlyoption

-J Whenlogicalvolumesare recreatedfroma backup,youmaychooseto createthemusingtheexactsamephysicalpartitionsonthedisksonwhich theycurrentlyreside.Thisisnotpossiblewheninstallingontoa diskofa differentsizeorphysical locationonthesystem.Specifyingthisoptionwill preservethecurrentmappingofthelogicalvolume, butwillalso preserve anyfragmentationthatcurrentlyexists.Preservingthepartitionmappingis generallynotusefulunlessthelogicalvolumeswereoriginally created usingpartitionmaps.Thisflagisoptional.

-k buffer_size

Thebuffersize indicatestheamountofdatathatiswrittentotheoutput deviceina singleoutputoperation.Usingabuffersize thatbestoptimizes a particulardevicecanhavesignificantperformance advantages.

Note: Thelargerthebuffer size,themore memorywillbeusedbythe systemduringthebackup.

The SMIT menu fieldequivalent tothis flag is: Buffer size(in Kbytes). -p Specifyingthisoption willcausethedatatobe compressedbythis system

prior towritingtothebackupdevice.Youshouldnotcompressdataif the deviceyouarewritingtohasbuilt-incompressioncapability.However, if youarewritingthebackuptoaremotehostand wishtosendlessdata overthenetwork,thisoption maybeuseful.However,verifythatthe

outputdevicedoesnotalsohavecompressionset.Compressingdatawill useconsiderableCPUprocessingonthis system,butwillresult inlessdata written tothebackupdevice(inmostcases)andusuallybetterbackup performance.Thisflagisoptional.

The SMIT menufield equivalenttothis flag is: Compressdatabefore writing to media?.
