Setting the Network Install Client Defaults

Ifyouinstalla clientsystemfroma networkinstall server,youcancustomize installationto reduce,oreveneliminate,theamountofinformationa usermust entertoinitiatetheinstallationoftheclientmachine.Thecompleteeliminationof all promptsisreferredtoasa “no-promptinstall”oran“unprompted installation”.

Thisisaccomplishedbysettingallinstallationinformationthattheuseris normallypromptedforbefore actuallyperformingthenetworkinstallation.

Configuretheclientasa networkboot clientbeforeyousetthenetwork installationdefaults forthatclient.

Set Network Install Defaults

1. From theClassicNetwork BootMenu,selectSetNetworkInstallClient Defaults.

Note: Froma commandline, type smitsb_cfginstclient. 2. Highlight theclientand pressEnter.

Client Hostname

Thisfieldcannotbe changed;itwaspopulatedfrominputofthe previousmenuscreen.

PerformNo-PromptInstallation

Specifiesiftheclienttobe installedwillbeprompted.Ifthis fieldisset to“no”,theinstallationmenus willappearafter anetworkboot.

Otherwise,theinstallationoccursafter thenetworkbootwithout promptingtheuser,providedthatallrequiredinformationforthe installationisalsoprovided.Thedefaultis“no”.

DebugLogging

Indicateswhetherornottoturnondebugloggingoperations for troubleshootingnetworkbootand installationproblems.Thedefaultis

ConsoleDeviceName

Enterthenameoftheconsoledeviceprior toinstallationtoprevent displayingthepromptpriortotheinstallationmenus.Theconsole devicecanbeeitheran LFT(graphicaldisplay)orTTY(ascii display) device.Examplesare/dev/1ft0or/dev/tty0.Also,if anLFTdeviceexists ontheclient,it canalso beselectedbytyping/dev/console.Thedefault is“none/blank”.

Note: The displaymustbeselected,evenfor ano-promptinstall.This letsyoureceiveanyerrororwarningmessagesandprompts you if thedefaultinformationprovidedisinsufficientto completethe installation.

ConsoleTerminalType(ifascii)

Iftheconsoledeviceisanasciiterminal,orTTYdevice,youmust selectaspecific terminaltype.Thisensures thatinstallationmenus,if required,are displayedwiththecorrectterminalemulation.Enterthe devicetypeorpressF4todisplayalistofallterminaltypesdefinedon theserverandselectfromthelist.Examplesof commonterminaltypes areibm3151,tvi925and vt100.Thedefaultis“none/blank”.

Non-rootvgVolumeGroupOption

Thedefaultis“RestoreRootvgOnly”.Thefollowingisadescriptionof theoptionsforthis field.

RestoreRootvgOnly

Onlytherootvgvolume groupiscreatedandrestoredfromthe media,evenif therewere othervolumegroupsdefinedonthe backup.Attheendoftheinstall,onlytherootvgvolumegroup willbe definedonthesystem.

RestoreAllVGs

Allvolume groupsthatareincludedonthebackupmedia are createdandrestored.Volumegroupsthataredefinedonthe originalsystembutwhosedatawasnotincludedonthe backuparecreatedbutdataisnotrestored.

ImportNon-Rootvgs

Therootvgvolumegroupiscreatedandrestored.Allother volumegroups,if any,are importedfromdisksontheclient.

Thisoption assumesthatthenon-rootvg volumegroups alreadyexist ontheclient.Use thisoptionwhenrestoringthe rootvgvolumegroupaftera systemfailurewherenoother volumegroupswereaffected.

RestoreDeviceorFile

Theoptionsshownaremadeavailable usingtheAddorChange Client HostAccesstothisServeroptionundertheRemoteServicesmenu.

Youmustselectanoptionfromthis listtopreventbeingpromptedfor aninstallationdeviceorfileduring theinstallationprocess.Thedefault is“none/blank”.For moreinformationondefiningthese resource,see Chapter8,“RemoteServices,”onpage8-1.

BackupSequenceNumber (iftape)

Iftheclientisinstalledfromtape, andthesystembackuptobe

installedisnotthefirstsystem backuponthetape,enterthebackup sequencenumber.Thisnumbermust bebetween1 andthetotal numberofsystem backupsonthetapemedia.Thedefaultis

“none/blank”.

RemoveSysBackfromForeign ClientAfterInstall

IndicateswhetherornottoremovetheSysBackprogramfromthe systemafter installation.Choose“yes”when youhavenotpurchaseda licensefortheclientthatwillbe installed.Thedefaultis“no”.

Note: Ifyouareinstallinga backuponanLPAR capablemachine,that wasmadefromanotherpartitioninthatsamemachine,this promptwillnotoccur.However,ifyouwouldliketoremovethe productfromthenewpartition, youmayconfigureSysBackto dosousingtheUtilitiesmenuoption describedin“Remove SysBackProgramsAfterInstall”onpage12-15.

RemoveNetworkConfigurationfromForeignClient

Indicateswhetherornottoremovenetworkspecific information requiredtoconfigurethehosttothenetwork. Choose“yes”whenthe machineinstalledwascloned fromabackupimageofa machinethatis stillpresentonthenetwork.Thedefaultis“no”.

Note: Ifyouareinstallinga backuponanLPAR capablemachine,that wasmadefromanotherpartitioninthatsamemachine,this promptwillnotoccur.However,ifyouwouldliketoremovethe productfromthenewpartition, youmayconfigureSysBackto dosousingtheUtilitiesmenuoption describedin“Removing theNetwork Configuration”onpage12-11.

InstallAdditionalDeviceDriverSupport

ThisoptiontellsSysBackhowmuchtoinstalofwhatiscontainedin themediainthelocationspecifiedbytheInstallDevice option.The twooptionsare:

Minimum

Selectingthis optionwillinstall onlythose devicesupport filesetsidentifiedbyAIXwhen thesystem wasbooted.This informationisobtainedfromthefile/tmp/devices.pkgswhich iscreatedbyAIXwhenthesystemwas booted.Thisfileisnot always100%accurate regardingwhatdevicesupportisneeded assomedevicesreturninvalidinstallp packagenamesrather thanindividualfilesets.Inmostcases,however,thisisa reliablealternativetopre-installingalldevicesupport filesets ontoasystem priortocreatingthebackupimage.

All Selectingthis optiontellsSysBacktoperforman install commandagainsteveryitemcontainedonthemediainthe specifiedlocation.Thismayinclude devicesupport filesetsor anyothersoftwarethatislocatedonthemedia.

SoftwareInstallDevice

ThisoptionletsyouspecifyaCDROMdevicename, atapedevice name,ora NIMLPPSOURCEdirectoryname.The NIMLPPSOURCE directorynameprovidesadditionaldevicesupporttoinstall during installation.Thisdevicesupport,if availableinthespecifiedlocation, willbeinstalledincircumstanceswheretheneededdevicesupport for thismachine iscontained intheboot image,notthebackupimageto beinstalled.

IfthisisaNIMResourceNetwork Boot,SysBackwillautomatically pullsdevicesupportfromtheNIMLPPSOURCEspecifiedwhenthe NetworkBoot clientwasaddedregardlessofwhetherthisoptionis edited.Formoreinformationonconfiguringa NIMResourceNetwork Boot,seeChapter13,“NetworkBoot/InstallationConfiguration,”on page13-1.

FirewallCommunicationPorts

Specifytheavailableports thatSysBackshoulduseforcommunications betweentheindicatedhosts. Ifyoudonotusethisoption,SysBackwill useitsdefaultmethodtodetermineopencommunicationports.

However,shouldyouhavetheneedtodirectSysBacktoonlyuse certainportsforcommunicationsbetweentheindicatedhosts,this optionmust bespecified.

Note: Ports musttobe specifiedinoneofthefollowingways:

v Asacommaseparatedlistofports.For example:1670,1671 Note: Youmustalways specifyatleasttwoports.Ifallofthe

specifiedports areinuseat thetimethatSysBack attemptstousethemfor communicationservices,the SysBackprocess willfail.

v Asarangeofports.Forexample:1670-1700.

InstallServerIPAddress

Theaddressoftheinstallationserver.Ifthebootserverisalsothe installationserver,donotchangethisoption.Ifthebackupmediafrom whichtheclientisinstalledexistsonadifferentserver,entertheIP addressoftheinstallationserver.Thedefaultistheboot server’sIP address.

GatewayAddress

Theaddressoftheboot server.Ifthebootserverisalsotheinstallation server,donotchangethisoption.Iftheclientisinstalledfromserver otherthanthenetworkbootserverand adifferentgatewayaddressis requiredtoreachtheinstallationserver,enterthatgatewayIPaddress.

Thedefaultistheboot server’sgateway address.

NetworkDeviceName

Iftheclientisinstalledusinga networkadapterdifferentthanitwas bootedfrom,enterthedevicenameofthenetworkadapterhere. The defaultis“none/blank”.

SubnetMask

Iftheclientisinstalledusinga networkdifferentthanitwasbooted from,enterthesubnet mask,ifany,requiredforthenetworkadapterto contacttheinstallationserver.Thedefaultis“none/blank”.

Token-RingSpeed(ifapplicable)

Iftheinstallationserverusesadifferentnetworkadapter,and the networkadapteristoken-ring, selectthecorrecttoken-ringspeed.Ifthe bootserverisalsotheinstallationserver,donotsetthis option.The defaultis“none/blank”.

EthernetInterface(ifapplicable)

Iftheinstallserverusesa differentnetworkadapter,andthenetwork adapterisethernet,selectthecorrectinterface type.Ifthebootserveris alsotheinstallationserver,donotsetthisoption.Thedefault is

“none/blank”.

EthernetConnectionType

Iftheinstallserverusesa differentnetworkadapter,andthenetwork adapterisethernet,selectthecorrectconnection type.Iftheboot server isalsotheinstallationserver,do notchangethisoption.Thedefaultis

“none/blank”.

Post-InstallScript

Toassignaspecificpost-installscripttorunattheendofthe

installationprocess,enterthefullyqualifiedpathandthenameofthe post-installscriptfile.Thefilemust existontheinstallationserverand bereadablebytheclientduringinstallation.RefertoAppendixE,

“CreatingScriptsforCustomizingtheSystemBackupand Install Process,”onpageE-1foradditionalinformationonpost-installscripts.

Thedefaultis“none/blank”.

LVM Informationfile

TouseacustomizedLVMinformationfileduringclientinstallation, enterthefullyqualifiedpathandnameoftheLVMinformationfilein thisfield.TheLVMinformationfilemustcontaininformationthatis compatiblewiththeclient.Thefilemust existontheinstallationserver andbe readablebytheclientduringinstallation.For additional

informationoncreatinganLVMInformationfile,seeChapter16,

“Utilities,”onpage16-1.Thedefaultis“none/blank”.

4. Onceall entriesarecomplete, pressEntertoconfirmselectionsand execute your choices.
