This course is designed to assist ninth graders with the transition from middle school to high school. Course content will include life skills, study skills, career exploration, character education, and or- ganizational skills. Students have the opportunity for meaningful hands-on learning experiences that help them see the connection between school and work. Work experience may be paid or unpaid.

Leadership Skills Development 379985CW Grades 10, 11, and 12 1 unit (yearlong skinny)

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation

This course is designed to develop leadership skills to inspire stu- dents to become leaders in their school, community, and personal lives. This course is especially designed for Student Council mem- bers and those students who hold leadership positions in the school. Students will become familiar with the skills and traits necessary for effective leadership. Topics covered will include time management, organization skills, communication skills, goal setting, team building, and other aspects of leadership.

Mock Trial 339916CW Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 1 unit

Requirement: This class meets as a late bird class and students must have their own transportation home.

The Mock Trial Team consists of 15 students who are selected for their ability to argue, reason, and respond effectively to courtroom questioning. The team analyzes the Mock Trial problem that is dis- tributed by the South Carolina Bar in preparation for competition with other schools throughout the state. The goal of Mock Trial is to prepare students to assume the roles of witnesses and attorneys using authentic trial experiences. Students devote two hours each day after school to practice for the semester preceding the compe- tition. Due to this substantial time commitment, Mock Trial team membership affords student participants one unit of elective credit.

Career Technology Education includes courses and career majors which serve the total school population through relevant curricula ori- ented toward providing career direction, a sound foundation for ad- vanced study in a variety of career paths, and the development of em- ployability skills.

Course offerings include the programs of Biomedical Sciences; Business, Management, and Administration; Graphics Design; Health Science; Hospitality and Tourism; Human Services; Industrial Technical Educa- tion; Information Technology; Law, Public Safety, and Security; Market- ing, Sales, and Service; and Pre-Engineering.

Students are encouraged to select a career path and choose courses which prepare them for future education and career success. Com- puter skills are essential in every area and are required for graduation.
