2.5 Evaluation Process and Reforms

2.4.5 Give the number of Faculty who received awards / recognition at the state, national and international level for excellence in teaching during the last four years. Enunciate how the institutional culture and environment contributed to such performance/achievement of the Faculty.

• The teachers are rewarded annually with cash prize and merit certificate for publication of papers in reputed journals, for producing 100% results in the university examinations and for getting project grants and for publishing books.

• Many of our Faculty members have been awarded for such achievements in the past.

• The Management of the institution provides constant support and encourages the Faculty members to participate in such programmes in publication activities.

2.4.6 Has the institution introduced evaluation of teachers by the students and external Peers? If yes, how is the evaluation used for improving the quality of the teaching-learning process?

Yes. The teachers are evaluated for the course offered by them to the students at the starting and end of every semester. The online students’ feedback analysis is taken to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

In addition to this, external peers such as the Anna University, AICTE, ISO certification authorities are also evaluating the teaching-learning process, then-and-there and when-and-where required. Based upon these evaluations remedial measures are taken to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Annual self appraisal form system of evaluating the teachers for annual increment is carried by the Principal through the HoDs.

2.5 Evaluation Process and Reforms

2.5.1 How does the institution ensure that the stakeholders of the institution especially students and Faculty are aware of the evaluation processes?

• The students are aware of the evaluation process by means of Student Feedback System, during the beginning of the semester itself through class committee meeting.

• The Faculty members are aware of the evaluation process through Faculty appraisal form, which needs to be submitted at the end of every academic year.

2.5.2 What are the major evaluation reforms of the university that the institution has adopted and what are the reforms initiated by the institution on its own?

The Faculty members are asked to prepare two sets of question papers during the periodical tests for the courses offered and the Head of the Department will choose one among them. This makes the students to learn the subject in-depth.

The evaluation scheme for both the theory and practical courses would be informed to the students well in advance, that is, in the first class committee meeting. Question Bank for each subject and model question papers are given.

2.5.3 How does the institution ensure effective implementation of the evaluation

reforms of the university and those initiated by the institution on its own?

The answer scripts of the periodical tests evaluated by the Faculty members will be given back to the students for corrections, if any. Once this is done, the mark statement would be submitted to the Head of the department for further verification. The marks secured by the students would be entered in the web portal of the Anna University for further processing, to award internal marks by the university. The summary of results / internal marks are also displayed in notice boards.

2.5.4 Provide details on the formative and summative evaluation approaches adopted to  measure student achievement. Cite a few examples which have positively impacted the system.

The performance and achievement of every student is closely monitored by the class coordinator concerned and HOD. The academic performance of a student is measured based on the periodical tests conducted by the department and the end semester examination conducted by the Anna University. In addition, the student’s achievement by way of paper presentation in conferences/symposium, attendance, individual project is also measured. The students who achieve 100%

attendance are encouraged and rewarded. The students’ involvement in technical symposium, NSS activity, sports, etc are well supported by the institute.

2.5.5 Enumerate on how the institution monitors and communicates the progress and performance of students through the duration of the course / programme? Provide an analysis of the student’s results / achievements (Programme/ course wise for the last four years) and explain the differences if any and patterns of achievement across the programmes / courses offered.

As per the norms of Anna University, the internal assessment marks are awarded to the students based on their performance in the periodical tests and attendance in each semester. This is being communicated to the parents concerned, as a form of Progress Report, throughout the programme. The institution strictly follows the system needs to be adopted as prescribed by the university. Thus the college maintains transparency in awarding internal marks.

2.5.7 What are the mechanisms for redressal of grievances with reference to

evaluation both at the college and University level?

In the system of evaluation of students at college level as well as University Level, the students have every right to make representation about their grievances, if any. Those genuine grievances are redressed as per norms. At college level, if a student fails to perform well in a periodical test, he/ she can approach the HOD and make representation for retest. Such grievance is considered case to case and redressed suitably.

Similarly students can apply for revaluation to the University if he/she finds that the evaluation was unfair. Such a grievance is redressed by the University during the revaluation process.

‘Grievance Redressal Cell’ has representation from all classes / courses for any issues or complaints at institute level. Committee for preventing ragging in the campus, Hostel Committee, Sports Committee addressees the issues of specific area.
