2.6 Student performance and Learning Outcomes
2.5.7 What are the mechanisms for redressal of grievances with reference to
evaluation both at the college and University level?
In the system of evaluation of students at college level as well as University Level, the students have every right to make representation about their grievances, if any. Those genuine grievances are redressed as per norms. At college level, if a student fails to perform well in a periodical test, he/ she can approach the HOD and make representation for retest. Such grievance is considered case to case and redressed suitably.
Similarly students can apply for revaluation to the University if he/she finds that the evaluation was unfair. Such a grievance is redressed by the University during the revaluation process.
‘Grievance Redressal Cell’ has representation from all classes / courses for any issues or complaints at institute level. Committee for preventing ragging in the campus, Hostel Committee, Sports Committee addressees the issues of specific area.
2.6 Student performance and Learning Outcomes
2.6.1 Does the college have clearly stated learning outcomes? If ‘yes’ give details on how the students and staff are made aware of these?
At the beginning of every academic year each department fixes the target for a quality teaching and learning. This is analysed from University result. The pass percentage and ranks are few measures, taken into consideration. This is brought to the knowledge of the Faculty in the respective department meetings and to the students in the classes.

Punctuality of students and staff and time management have improved. Planning in advance for any activity has become routine practice. Shouldering responsibility has improved. Number of university ranks has increased in addition to good pass percentage.
In order to achieve the intended learning outcome, the staff members are motivated through orientation programme and staff meeting. Further, the Faculty is encouraged to achieve learning outcome by way of incentives to teachers and students. The ISO and IQAC make sure that quality is maintained, sustained and enhanced in the teaching-learning process.
2.6.3 What are the measures/initiatives taken up by the institution to enhance the social and economic relevance (quality Jobs, entrepreneurship, innovation and research aptitude) of the courses offered?
The college conducts soft skills training programmes, quantitative analysis, and verbal ability test classes for the students to meet the expectation of the organization. To enhance social and economic relevance in the courses offered, Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) functions in the college. Awareness programmes on entrepreneurship are conducted to guide the students to become Self Study Report – Valliammai Engineering College Page 70 of 379
entrepreneurs with the help of NSIC. Two students from every class are motivated and in turn they carry the message to other students. Students are also taken to Industries for onsite learning to gain practical knowledge.
The university curriculum encourages the students to do their project work in reputed organization and Research and Development organizations. The students can use their innovative ideas for the development of the project.
2.6.4 How does the institution collect and analyse data on student learning outcomes and use it for planning and overcoming barriers of learning?
The college collects and analyses data on student learning outcome in different ways namely through the respective Class Coordinators, Examination Cell, and Placement Cell. The information collected is used to overcome any barrier identified.
i) The Class committee consists of students & Faculty members teaching the courses. Three meetings are conducted per semester to ensure that the objectives are attained.
ii) Project review committee is constituted for each programme.
Approximately 4 or 5 reviews are conducted for projects.
iii) Special coaching is offered to the slow learners.
After each placement drive, the feedback is taken from various employers about the performance of our students. Fine tuning is done on the basis of this report for the successive batch students.
2.6.5 How does the institution monitor and ensure the achievement of learning outcomes?
The Principal or HOD periodically monitors the progress of the students’
performance. The Faculty member maintains a record of class work book and enters the topics handled by the member in a session.
