Western Illinois University will fund the development of new online courses. Typical funding will provide $5,000 per course using a team approach with the assistance of the Center for the Application of Information Technology (CAIT) and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR). Course development work must be completed by June 1, 2013 to receive payment.

Online Course Development Flowchart

Faculty member submits course development proposal, agrees to all requirements, and secures signatures.

Signed by Chair and Dean.

Proposal submitted to Dr. Richard Carter for review and approval.

Approved by Dr. Ken Hawkinson.

Select and announce online courses to be developed. Faculty notified.

Development Process Kick-off meeting scheduled to discuss best practices, process, and expectations.

Meeting conducted.

Faculty complete Best Practices in Teaching Online CITR cohort training.

Certificate of completion awarded.

Faculty meet with CAIT instructional design expert to analyze the course and create course scope/timeline.

Full schedule and scope of work completed.

Course is set-up, designed, and developed by faculty/CAIT. Midpoint review conducted.

Checklist signed off by CAIT/Dept. Chair

Upon checklist sign off, documentation sent to Dr. Carter to process faculty payment ($5000).

Faculty payment processed.

Faculty support and follow-up training is provided as needed.
