General Membership Meeting (Tracy Fly Fishers)
Our next meeting of the Tracy Fly Fishers will be on Saturday, June 16.
Meeting location is at Dr. Powers Park. The outing will be from 10:00 – 2:00.
We’ll have something for everyone. Bring the family, friends and neighbors!
(This event at Dr Powers Park takes the place of our June monthly meeting.)
FLY LINES &
FISH TALES
The Prez Says:
I can say one fact about living and playing in the Central Valley is you have to except that there is going to be wind!
Without fail we had wind at the Bass ponds, but that did not stop us from fishing the famed Kistler Ranch. The morning started out slow but as the day warmed up I saw many bent rods. Look for some pictures throughout the newsletter.
Some nice fish were landed.
This past month many TFF members put themselves through another Bass N Fly tournament. Without fail the wind came up but some of us still landed a few bass. No top finishing teams but we had a force of boats/teams
representing TFF.
I look forward to the Family Day BBQ
on June 16th. Come on out to Dr. Powers Park, cast a fly rod, see some tying demos and have a Pat Freggie hot dog.
Bring your kids as we are planning a kid’s raffle. This event is always a fun time.
Davis Lake is the June highlight so if want to find out more info please call me at 209-612- 5188. The pre- meeting is on Monday June 18th at the Starbucks in Safeway at 7:00pm. Some folks will be coming up on Thursday June 21st and/or Friday June 22nd so if you want to attend and/or share a ride, come to the pre- meeting and see if you can hook up with someone who has room. Plus, it helps out on the wallet as you can split
expenses. Friday night will be a potluck hosted by Mike Carlson and I. So please sign up and get ready for some lake fishing.
No general meeting for June at the transit station, so look forward to July as we are going to have some special fly tier's demos and some "how to"
tables. More info to come later.
Remember nothing is better than having your rod bent on a fish, so get out on the water.

General info:
Fishing is best from a float tube with intermediate fly line. Personal floatation devices are strongly recommended Jay Fair wiggle tails and still water patterns work best. The west shore has the best possibilities, but access might be limited. Strongly recommend a truck. Good fishing can be done on the east shore with parking lot access.
Any questions please call Ben at 209-612-5188 or email [email protected]

Karuk Groundwater Study Says Overpumping Reducing Flows For Salmon In Scott River
June 6, 2012Leave a Comment
A Karuk Tribe study of Scott Valley water says increased groundwater pumping is resulting in lower flows in the Scott River (which provides spawning habitat for Chinook salmon, endangered coho salmon, and steelhead), and will likely have implications regarding water management in the embattled, largely agricultural Scott Valley.
From the Siskiyou Daily News:
“The results show that as groundwater pumping has increased in Scott Valley over the years, stream flows have decreased,” a press release announcing the report’s completion stated.
“We believe that this will have a critical effect on all natural resources,” Karuk Chairman Buster Attebery said in the release.
The report is based on a study of data presently available in the public record, “including over 1,000 well logs, soil and geologic data, groundwater elevations, well tests, high-resolution land surface elevation data, crop and riparian
vegetation mapping, climatological data and stream gage records,” the release stated.
As demands for environmental uses of water have increased, or to supplement reduced surface water deliveries during drought years, agricultural users have increasingly turned to pumping groundwater.
Several recent studies have shown that most of that pumping is not sustainable; water tables are falling fast in areas of the California’s Central Valley.
Now, according to the Karuk study, overpumping groundwater means lower flows in the Scott River and tributaries for salmon and steelhead.
The Karuk study was conducted in parallel with a Siskiyou County study in part because the Karuk tribe fears the county study would be based more on politics than science — a sign of the factionalization occurring in Siskiyou County.
