Align the far edge of the paper stack against the (inner) side regulating plate.

When using envelopes, place them so that the flap-edge of the envelopes touch the inner side regulating plate, with the print side facing upward. Note also that the flaps must remain folded.

Keep the paper stack neat, and put them gently on the feeder tray.

● When loading envelopes:

Extend the tray, which is folded in two, before loading envelopes.

● Loading capacity is:

250 name cards, 500 postcards, 100 or 200 envelopes (depending on the size). (standard type each.)

Whenever the printer happens to misfeed, try reducing the stack on the tray.

● Note before loading:

Sometimes if the paper is new or if the envelopes are puffed with air within, they may fail to feed prop- erly. Fan a new stack of paper well and take curls off them. Press puffed envelopes flat in order to expel en- closed air.

5

Push up the lever on the side regulating plate (front), and still keeping it up, push and let the plate slide inward until it comes in an easy contact with the paper edge.

6

Press the feeder tray lift switch.

The feeder tray will come up automati- cally. Just wait for the tray to stop at the top.

7

Prepare the paper stacker to accomodate various types of print media.

● Name cards

Attatch the name card holder.

Fix the name card holder securely in place with its hooks hanging on to the metal parts within the mounting slot of the printer main unit.

Capacity: up to 250 standard-type name card at a time.

If cards are ejected continuously so that the card holder becomes full with the printed cards, it may cause a paper jam. Take the printed cards away now and again.

● Ordinary-sized postcards and envelopes Remove the name card holder, and have the postcard slider lie flat within the paper stacker.

Adjust the position of the regulating plate ac- cording to the paper height.

● Postcards with high print density

If graphics which call for high ink density are printed on postcards, then the ink takes a long time to dry, causing the paper to curl. Pull up the postcard slider on its end to make it lean against the printer unit itself so as to prevent such incon- venience.

Chapter 1: Getting Started ... 4. Loading and Replacing Paper

● If the paper is not loaded properly when you try to start printing, the “FAILED FEEDING” or “SET PAPER GUIDE” message will appear on the display panel, and the job will be suspended.

In this case, press the feeder tray lift switch to bring down the tray, straighten the paper stack, and align the side regulating plates (at the inner and front) properly, and then press the tray lift switch again. The printer restarts printing and the error state will be removed.

● When the printer has run out of paper, the "SET PAPER" message will appear on the display panel. To continue, press the feeder tray lift switch to bring down the tray, load a new stack of paper, and then press the tray lift switch again. The printer restarts printing and the error state will be called off.

● Use only the media supplied by the manufacturer specially for COLOR CARD PRINT- ING MACHINE. Using other types of media may result in blurred or thin-spotted out- puts. It may also cause the printer to malfunction and breakdown.

● When stocking papers, put them in the plastic bags supplied with them, and store them away out of direct sunlight to prevent discoloring or other deterioration in qual- ity. Once unsealed, you should use up the paper as quickly as possible.

● Each type of manufacturer-supplied media for COLOR CARD PRINTING MACHINE has its own area for printing. Do not try to print outside that area (➔ page 45, Saving a New Paper Size).

● Make sure that the paper actually loaded in the printer matches the paper (size) speci- fied by the printer driver.

Chapter 2: Printinga ... 3. Stopping a Job

3. Stopping a Job

When you force the printer to stop a print job while the job is sending from the computer, be sure to send a stop command from the com- puter, in addition to making a stop action on the printer's side.

❏ Suspending a Job

To suspend a printing job temporarily (for example, when you want to check the output), press the ON LINE key on the operation panel. The printer will finish the particular paper it is printing, eject it, and pause. To restart printing, press the ON LINE key again.

Once suspended, the printer stays in the OFF LINE state and needs no further instructions from the com- puter. However, if it is suspended too long while large amounts of print data are being transmitted from the computer, delay in the process may bring a Timeout Error message onto the computer's screen. If that happens, select Retry.

The halted jobs can be completely canceled by taking the steps described in the following Canceling a Job Completely section.

❏ Canceling a Job Completely

In order to cancel a job completely, first execute a cancel command on the computer's side.

From the Start menu, select Settings, and then click Printers. In the Printers folder, double-click CANON P-660C PRINTER.

All the documents on the waiting list are displayed in the window. Select the document or documents you wish to cancel, then open the File menu and click Cancel Printing.

The computer will abort its printing process. The DATA lamp of the printer will remain lit. Press the STOP/RESET key for at least three seconds to clear all the received data from the waiting list.

● If you want to quit the job immediately, first press the STOP/RESET key before carry- ing out the above steps.

● Sometimes when the printer is used in a network environment, you may be unable to cancel the job from your computer. In such a situation consult your network adminis- trator and check that a proper privilege has been allocated to your computer on the network.

Do not touch the main power switch in order to cut the power off when printing a job.

The BJ Linehead protection will fail to work properly, and it may result in breakdown.

Before cutting the power off, under normal conditions, first press the POWER key on the operation panel and then, when the printer is safely back into the powe saving mode, turn off the main power switch.

● Quality tab

• Media: This option allows you to specify the type of the media you are using. Choose from among Matte Coated Paper, Glossy Paper, Light Coated Paper, White Polyester, or En- velope.

• Dithering setup: This printer reproduces the whole range of colors by arraying the dots of the basic col- ors (that is, YMCK and RGB, the latter being produced by combinations of the former) in such a way as to create the semblance of varying shades of colors. The Dithering tab offers you the option to use this method of reproduction.

Pattern: A processing method most suitable for documents which contain text, images and pho- tographs in a mixed form.

Error diffusion: A method which reproduces middle tones with a many-leveled gradation sequence, and prints out the varying color gradations in smooth transitional patterns. While it is apt to reduce the print speed, natural images such as photographs come out beautifully.

• Head Shading print:

This feature ensures the printouts with less mottling, by referring to the Head Shading data (the data for print adjustment specific to the head of your particular printer unit), which has been downloaded from the printer to the computer.

Use the Utility tab to download the Head Shading data (see page 59).

• Defaults: This button cancels the modifications you have made to the parameters and restores the former Autopalette settings.

If you are using media other than the manufacturer-supplied media for COLOR CARD PRINTING MACHINE, the printer may fail to print with a satisfactory print quality, re- gardless of the print modes. Or again, printing on the uncoated media may come out with mottlings and blurrings in the printed images.

● Special effects tab

• Print Mode: If you want to have the paper feed intervals regulated automatically, click the check box to enable the Auto Mode. This feature ensures a smooth printing job according to the data type and the performance of the computer. When the Overlay Print is on, however, it will cause the print speed to change, and the printer will stop and go into the pause state before it restarts.

If you want to regulate the paper feed intervals manually, click again and remove the checkmark. You can adjust the intervals on a scale of six levels, by moving the slider control.
