2. Installing Software

The package includes Printer Driver / User’s Guide CD-ROM, which contains the software necessary for you to use this printer in Windows environments.

This section describes how to install software into your computer.

If your printer is connected to a local area network (LAN) via 10BASE-T, refer to [Pnconfig for Windows operator’s manual] and [Net Ware Utility] contained in the Printer Driver / User’s Guide CD-ROM, to find the installation steps and use the soft-ware for the NetWare network.

❏ System Requirements

Computer:

A personal computer with Intel Pentium (TM) or higher CPU capable of running Windows 95, Win-dows 98 or WinWin-dows NT4.0.

Operating System:

Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT4.0

*USB interface is supported by Windows 98 only.

Hard Disk:

At least 30 MB of free disk space is needed during installation.

CD-ROM drive:

Needed to install the printer driver and to read the User's Guide CD-ROM.

Recommended Interfaces:

1. USB (supported by Windows 98 only) 2. 10BASE-T

3. Parallel interface

*This printer is connectable to two or more different interfaces at the same time.

Printer Drivers for Windows 98/95

❏ Using Parallel Interface

From the Start menu, select Settings, then Printers.

The Printers folder opens.

Double-click the Add Printer Wizard icon.

Add Printer Wizard starts.

Click Next, select where the printer is connected to, then click Next again.

To use the printer connected to your own personal computer, select Local Printer.

Click Have Disk.

The Install From Disk dialog appears.

Insert Printer Driver / Usr’s Guide ROM into your CD-ROM drive . The disk is in-cluded in the package.

In the Copy manufacturer's files from text box, type "D:\Win95-98" and click OK.

Where "D:\" is the drive letter of your computer's CD-ROM drive.

Select CANON P-660C PRINTER for P-660C, then click Next.

Select LPT1:Printer Port, and then click Next.

We are assuming here that the Printer Port is assigned in the parallel interface configuration.

Click Finish.

Files are copied and the installation will be completed.

Now go on to the next step to transmit the Head Shading data from the printer to the computer, that is, data for print

In the Printer folder, right-click the icon of the CANON P-660C PRINTER, then select Proper-ties.

Click the Utility tab, then click the Head Shading button .

In the Select Port dialog box, select LPT1:, then click Re-ceive.

If the printer is connected via the 10BASE-T interface, select TCP/IP, type the IP address of the printer, and then click the Receive button.

Retrieving the Head Shading Data may take 30 seconds to one minute depending on the computer/interface configuration used.

When the Head Shading data has been received by the computer, the message ap-pears, as shown in the figure.

● With the printer-computer connection via the parallel port, receipt of the Head Shading data will be impossible, if the parallel interface on the computer's side is set up for unidirectional (one-way) communication. Always set up your computer for bi-directional (two-way) communication, provided the system allows you to use the parallel interface configuration.

❏ Using USB Interface

USB interface is supported by Windows 98 only.

Make sure that no USB cable is connected between the printer and the computer, and turn on both the computer and the printer.

Connect the printer to the computer using the USB cable.

The computer detects the printer auto-matically, and the Add New Hardware Wizard window opens.

Click Next, select Search the best driver for your device (recommended) , and then click Next again.

Click the Next button several times until you see the "Win-dows has finished installing the software that your new hardware device requires"

message on the screen, then click Finish.

Restart Windows.

Now go on to the next step to transmit the Head Shading data from the printer to the computer, that is, data for print adjustment specific to the head of your particular printer unit.

In the Printer folder, right-click the icon of the CANON P-660C PRINTER, then select Proper-ties.

Click the Utility tab, then click Head Shading.

In the Select Port dialog box, select USBCAIP-600, then click Receive.

Retrieving the Head Shading Data may take 30 seconds to one minute depending on the computer/interface configuration used.

When the Head Shading data has been received by the computer, the message ap-pears, as shown in the figure.

● In case the computer fails to receive the Head Shading data when a USB HUB is used, try disconnecting the USB HUB and then reconnecting it.

Printer Drivers for Windows NT

Only the parallel interface and the 10BASE-T interface are available for operating this printer on Windows NT.

The USB interface is not supported.

From the Start menu, select Settings, then Printers.

The Printers folder opens.

Add Printer Wizard starts.

Select how you are to manage the printer, and click Next.

When you are connecting the printer to your own personal computer, select My Computer.

Select the port you are con-necting to the printer, and click Next.

When you are connecting via the paral-lel interface, Select LPT1: .

When you are connecting via 10BASE-T, click Add Port, select LPR Port.

Then click New Port, and type the IP address and the printer name on the server (LP). If LPR Port is not found in the list of available ports, consult the

Click Have Disk.

The Install from a floppy disk dialog appears.

Where "D:\" is the drive letter of your computer's CD-ROM drive.

Select CANON P-660C PRINTER for P-660C, then click Next.

Make sure that the printer name is correct, then click Next.

If you want to allow other computers to print to this printer, too, click Shared, and then click Next.

When you chose Shared, type the share name of the printer in the Share Name box, and select the operation systems running on the client computers.

In the window asking whether a test page is printed, select No, then click Finish.

Now go on to the next step to transmit the Head Shading data from the printer to the computer, that is, data for print adjustment specific to the head of your particular printer unit..

CAILPR Software

CAILPR is software which enables you to access this printer directly from Windows 98/95 computers, when it is connected into a local network via the 10BASE-T interface.

Installing the CAILPR software will provide a new port in Windows environment. To activate CAILPR, open the driver's Properties window, click the Details tab, and select CAILPR from the Print to the following port pull-down list.

Typing the IP address of this printer will be required during installation. Ask the net-work administrator for the IP address.

and click OK.
