3. Using the Operation Panel

POWER

ON LINE

READY DATA MESSAGE CLEANING

Toggles between the power saving mode and the Normal mode.

From the power saving mode, press this key for approximately a second to turn the power on. The printer will clean itself, and get ready to print.

From the Normal mode, press this key for approximately a second to go into the power saving mode.

BJ Linehead will be shielded. When the printer is in the power saving mode, the READY lamp will be lit.

2. ON LINE key

Toggles between the ON LINE state and the OFF LINE state.

ON LINE state: The printer is ready to print and waiting for commands from the computer.

The ON LINE lamp is blinking or lit.

OFF LINE state: The printer does not accept commands or data from the computer. The ON LINE lamp is off.

When the printer is printing a job, press the ON LINE key to suspend the job temporarily. The printer will not receive data from the computer any more. Press the ON LINE key again, to restart printing.

3. STOP/RESET key

When the printer is printing a job, press the STOP/RESET key to force it to quit the job immediately after having that one particular card printed out. It stops and cancel the data being printed.

From the OFF LINE state, press the STOP/RESET key for at least three seconds to clear all the re-ceived data from the waiting list.

4. CLEANING key

From the OFF LINE state, press the CLEANING key to execute the BJ Linehead cleaning.

If you detect something like streaked patterns in the print output, cleaning is recommended to im-prove the print quality.

If you want to execute the cleaning during printing, press the ON LINE key to stop printing tempo-rarily and then press the CLEANING key.

After completion of the cleaning, press the ON LINE key again to restarts printing.

5. FEED ( ) key

Enables you to feed paper forward manually.

6. ON LINE lamp (green)

Lit when the printer is in the ON LINE state.

Blinking occurs while the printer is going into the OFF LINE state. When the job at hand is finished, the printer goes into the OFF LINE state.

7. READY lamp (green)

Lit when the power is on. The printer is ready to print.

Slow blinking occurs when the printer is in the power saving mode.

8. DATA lamp (green)

Blinking occurs while the printer is receiving print data from the computer.

If this lamp remains lit, it indicates that the printer has some data still left in it, usually after the printing job was cancelled.

9. MESSAGE lamp (orange)

Lit when the printer is in an error state. When this light is lit, an error message will appear in the display panel.

Messages are displayed here, to show the various conditions of the printer.

❏ ON LINE and OFF LINE

Press the ON LINE key to toggle between the ON LINE state and the OFF LINE state.

ON LINE state: The printer is ready to start a print job and waiting for commands from the computer.

The ON LINE light is blinking or lit.

OFF LINE state: The printer does not accept commands or print data from the computer. The ON LINE light is off.

When the printer is printing data, press the ON LINE key to suspend the job temporarily. The printer will not receive any more data from the computer. Press the ON LINE key again, to restart printing.

❏ STOP and RESET

The STOP/RESET key has three functions as shown below.

Emergency stop: While the printer is printing, pressing the STOP/RESET key prints data to the end of the current paper and cancel the data now being printed.

Deletion of one piece of data:

While the printer is printing, pressing the ON LINE key stops printing tempo-rarily and places the printer in the offline state. Then, pressing the STOP/RESET key for a short time resets (deletes) one piece of data currently being printed.

Pressing the ON LINE key again restarts printing the remaining data.

Deletion of all data: In the OFF LINE state, keep pressing the STOP/RESET key for about 3 seconds resets the data now being received as well as all the data that has already been received.

❏ Using the FEED key

When the printer is in the OFF LINE state, pressing the FEED key for one second or longer forces the printer to advance the paper toward the ejecting direction for as long as the key is held down.

❏ Display Panel

The display panel informs you of the various conditions of the printer, by showing simple messages on the screen.

The upper line normally indicates the current condition of the printer (➔ page 19)

When in trouble, an error message appears here indicating the nature or condition of the problem (➔ page 64)

The lower line gives you a warning message which alerts you to the situ-ation, for example, when one type of ink is running low (➔ page 65)

When the situation demands that more than one warning ought to be shown on the display, or when more than one error at a time is detected, then the screen will alter-nate between messages at intervals of one second.

PRINTING

● Messages Indicating the Printer's Status

This message appears when the power is turned on, and the printer is performing the self-cleaning routine.

The READY lamp begins to blink. Wait for a while.

The printer is in the ON LINE state and the ON LINE lamp is lit.

You can start a print job at any time.

The printer is in the OFF LINE state. The ON LINE lamp goes off when this message appears. The printer is not accepting print data from the computer.

The printer is printing a job.

The ON LINE key has been pressed and the printing job is sus-pended temporarily. When it is in the pause state, the printer is ready to accept one of these operations listed below.

Press the ON LINE key to restart the print job.

Press the STOP/RESET key to abort the printing process.

Press the CLEANING key to start cleaning.

The POWER key has been pressed and the printer is now going into the power saving mode.

The printer is in the process of receiving print data from the com-puter. The READY lamp is blinking while this message is being shown.

The printer has some data stored in it waiting to be printed. The DATA lamp is lit when this message is being shown.

The STOP/RESET key has been pressed and the printer is now in the process of resetting print data.

The printer is cleaning itself.
