❏ Types of Media

Use only the media that are supplied by the manufacturer specially for COLOR CARD PRINTING MACHINE.

If you use media other than those supplied by the manufacturer, such as ordinary plain paper, it may result in a paper jam or in unsatisfactory print quality (for example, adhesion failure, blurred images, and unrecognizable barcodes). Note that in creating these substandard kinds of outputs the printer is not performing at an optimum level, and this may eventually be a cause of breakdown.

Only part of the special media types are listed below.

For more information about supplies, refer to your printer dealer.

Matte coated paper: The standard media type for this printer. It is the non-glossy media equivalent to quality general use paper.

Glossy paper: The media equivalent to cast coated general use paper with more than 75 % of gloss value.

❏ Loading Paper

This section is about loading media on to the COLOR CARD PRINTING MACHINE. Figures in this section will illustrate how to load paper the size of a postcard, by way of example, so do be careful to read the details of each step, when you are going to print on name cards, envelopes, or other types of pa-pers with various dimensions.

1

Press the feeder tray lift switch.

The feeder tray will come down auto-matically. Just wait for the tray to stop at the bottom.

When loading print media, make sure that there are no hands or objects under the feeder tray before pressing the lift switch to bring down the tray.

2

Push up the lever on the side regulating plate (front), then still keeping it up, pull and let the plate slide forward until it comes to a halt.

3

Adjust the lever on the (inner) side regulating plate accord-ing to the paper width.

Switch the lever to left (L) position if the paper is 113 mm wide or wider.

Let it stay in right (S) position if the paper is narrower than 113 mm.

L ...Large size (width 113 mm and wider) S ...Small size (width less than 113 mm) To determine if your paper is wider than 113 mm or not, measure it with the accessory scale seal.

CAUTION

Loading Paper

4

Load a stack of paper on the feeder tray.

Align the far edge of the paper stack against the (inner) side regulating plate.

When using envelopes, place them so that the flap-edge of the envelopes touch the inner side regulating plate, with the print side facing upward. Note also that the flaps must remain folded.

Keep the paper stack neat, and put them gently on the feeder tray.

● When loading envelopes:

Extend the tray, which is folded in two, before loading envelopes.

● Loading capacity is:

250 name cards, 500 postcards, 100 or 200 envelopes (depending on the size). (standard type each.)

Whenever the printer happens to misfeed, try reducing the stack on the tray.

● Note before loading:

Sometimes if the paper is new or if the envelopes are puffed with air within, they may fail to feed prop-erly. Fan a new stack of paper well and take curls off them. Press puffed envelopes flat in order to expel en-closed air.

5

Push up the lever on the side regulating plate (front), and still keeping it up, push and let the plate slide inward until it comes in an easy contact with the paper edge.

6

Press the feeder tray lift switch.

The feeder tray will come up automati-cally. Just wait for the tray to stop at the top.

7

Prepare the paper stacker to accomodate various types of print media.

● Name cards

Attatch the name card holder.

Fix the name card holder securely in place with its hooks hanging on to the metal parts within the mounting slot of the printer main unit.

Capacity: up to 250 standard-type name card at a time.

If cards are ejected continuously so that the card holder becomes full with the printed cards, it may cause a paper jam. Take the printed cards away now and again.

● Ordinary-sized postcards and envelopes Remove the name card holder, and have the postcard slider lie flat within the paper stacker.

Adjust the position of the regulating plate ac-cording to the paper height.

● Postcards with high print density

If graphics which call for high ink density are printed on postcards, then the ink takes a long time to dry, causing the paper to curl. Pull up the postcard slider on its end to make it lean against the printer unit itself so as to prevent such incon-venience.

● If the paper is not loaded properly when you try to start printing, the “FAILED FEEDING” or “SET PAPER GUIDE” message will appear on the display panel, and the job will be suspended.

In this case, press the feeder tray lift switch to bring down the tray, straighten the paper stack, and align the side regulating plates (at the inner and front) properly, and then press the tray lift switch again. The printer restarts printing and the error state will be removed.

● When the printer has run out of paper, the "SET PAPER" message will appear on the display panel. To continue, press the feeder tray lift switch to bring down the tray, load a new stack of paper, and then press the tray lift switch again. The printer restarts printing and the error state will be called off.

● Use only the media supplied by the manufacturer specially for COLOR CARD PRINT-ING MACHINE. Using other types of media may result in blurred or thin-spotted out-puts. It may also cause the printer to malfunction and breakdown.

● When stocking papers, put them in the plastic bags supplied with them, and store them away out of direct sunlight to prevent discoloring or other deterioration in qual-ity. Once unsealed, you should use up the paper as quickly as possible.

● Each type of manufacturer-supplied media for COLOR CARD PRINTING MACHINE has its own area for printing. Do not try to print outside that area (➔ page 45, Saving a New Paper Size).

● Make sure that the paper actually loaded in the printer matches the paper (size) speci-fied by the printer driver.
