organizations to function smoothly to support the

business

manage TCO while delivering innovation

(4)

Customer speak…

CLOUD as a Technology does NOT drive me …

because

number crunching

Innovation Cycle: I need to incorporate shorter innovation cycles to continuously

improve my business processes

Scalability : I have IT scalability challenges in keeping up with my business cycles c

Real-time analytics : I need up to the minute information on my business KPIs

(10)

What changes from an On-Prem to Cloud

Implementation?

Infrastructure Operations Application

On-Prem

Cloud

• Full control over application deployment

• Internal Coordination needed

Full control over Operations deployment ( Basis/Job/DBA /Change Management)

Full control over Infrastructure deployment and platform refresh options

• Full control over application deployment

• External/Partner Coordination needed

Limited control in case cloud provider has standardized toolset/offerings

• Limited control in case of cloud provider

• Needs more coordination • Define upfront and execute

(11)

Key learnings from Cloud based SAP Deployments

Infrastructure Operations Application

c

• Focus on Functionality and not on mechanics( WHAT vs HOW )

• Define Application roadmap and align Operations/Infrastructure teams to that ( Partner or Inhouse )

• Retain Compliance applications ( Security, Audit ) in internal CoE • Embedded IT in Business

• Shift from Infra availability to application KPIs with Business • Get closer to Release Management function

• New Development Platforms for Service Delivery

• Clearly specify Enterprise requirements and NOT the mechanics of how to accomplish them . Be prepared to give in on minor issues that may have been important in an on-prem world ( Firewalls, OS Hardening etc. )

• Security and data segregation is KEY

• Check basic credentials ( SAP Cloud / Hosting certifications but also explore future roadmap ( In-memory, flash

• Engage with Cloud Provider for a robust resource projection ( Compute, memory, storage )

• If outsourced with Cloud provider , focus on adopting standardized toolsets ( Batch Management, Data quality, data transfer, replication , administration , LVM)

• Retain niche toolsets where possible but be prepared to give away some for standardization

(14)

Tools for SAP CoEs with Cloud Deployments

• Incident Management • Quality Mgmt Toolsets • Project Managemet

• Release & Change Management

Within-Enterprise

• SAP Solution Manager ( Dedicated or Shared ) • Testing Toolsets

• Job Scheduling

• LVM ( Landscape Virtualization Mgmt ) • HANA Management ( Cockpits )

On the

Partner

Cloud

Cloud provider

adoption for the

key toolsets is

critical

(15)

KEY LEARNINGS

 The CoE composition changes with Cloud Enabled services

 Strong Governance is the key

 Core Quality / PMO/Compliance functions will continue to need focus

 Focus on new Platforms for Service Delivery

 HANA Cloud Platform

 More standardized offerings - extension

 Check Cloud provider’s Automation adoption roadmap

 There is limited value in deploying a highly customized app on the cloud. The

value comes from standardization ( Successfactors model )
