| Introduction

The team at FluidX probably know more about 2D barcoded storage tubes and readers than any other group in the world. As part of the team that developed the very ﬁrst 2D datamatrix barcoded tubes back in 1999 we also introduced the ﬁrst scanner capable of identifying a whole rack of 96 tubes.

Our latest range of single tube and whole rack readers are the result of over ﬁfteen years of continuous development and innovation. While our competitors play “catch-up” we focus on continual development and innovation to bring the best products, with the most useful features, to our customers.

Our latest decoding software, IntelliCode™, is built on the very latest development platform to ensure continuity for many years to come. We‘ve incorporated all the elements from our previous software to ensure compatibility with current FluidX systems, while adding new options and features. IntelliCode has been designed to meet today’s, and tomorrow’s, requirements.

FluidX believes in developing the right product for the right use. The FluidX ScopeTM_{WirelessSingle Tube Reader}

The use of an Opticon linear barcode reader simpliﬁes robotic integration and is ideal for decoding more challenging (non-FluidX) linear barcodes.

Rack proﬁles save set up time

When a specific rack layout is used routinely a custom rack profile can be set up. E.g. When a row remains empty within a 96 format rack, or control tubes are placed in specific positions on a regular basis.

Swap between 96 and 48 format racks without making changes

Once rack profiles have been set up (or using the rack profiles provided) our IntelliCode software will automatically determine which rack type is being used and select the appropriate profile for decoding and exporting tube data. Now you can switch between 96 and 48 format racks without making any changes to the reader or software.

Automation friendly

All FluidX rack readers have a gripper cutout section around the scan window to provide easy robotic handling of shallow racks.

“No tube” feature

FluidX whole rack readers are able to discriminate between a tube with a barcode that cannot be decoded and an empty rack position. The reader will not attempt to decode empty tube positions and so data ﬁles are kept “clean”.

FluidX Active Cryoprotection®System

Storing biological samples at low temperature created reading challenges for traditional 2D barcoded tube rack readers.

When scanning multiple racks, the accumulated amount of time that the cold racks spend in contact with the reader glass causes a drop in air temperature on the underside of the glass. The resulting condensation and frost then reduces reading ability and can cause damage to the scanning head.

All FluidX 2D barcoded tubes adhere to ECC200 standards and our readers employ superior decoding algorithms, but even in these conditions unreliable reading can occur when condensation builds up as the code is obscured and the contrast between the code and the background is diminished.

FluidX readers ﬁtted with our unique Active Cryoprotection® system are capable of reading multiple racks of tubes without the build-up of frost or condensation on the underside of the glass aﬀecting decoding reliability. Unlike passive versions, an active cryoprotection system also helps to prevent damage to electronic components within the reader caused by the build up of moisture.

This system was introduced 4 years ago and now has a proven track record. Here’s one of the ﬁrst reviews we received:

FluidX EasyTrack Software is a graphical sample archiving package for sample management which has been developed and tested for use in most sample storage environments including molecular biology, cell biology, virology, microbiology and biochemistry.

EasyTrack is easy to use and provides the ability to conﬁrm sample ID, search and retrieve samples, archive, re-array and cherry pick samples, and is ideal for small or medium sized laboratories.

Suitable for storing and tracking both 1D and 2D barcoded samples, even complete boxes of tubes can be processed.

The storage environment can be customised by the user to meet speciﬁc requirements and access can be tailored to enable diﬀerent groups to use the same software.
