PreVault is a pre-cast concrete pavilion completed for the Aarhus Festuge (Festival) in Denmark. The festival is among the largest cultural events in Scandinavia and showcases both local, national and international artists. The structure was designed and constructed as part of a master class lead by Dave Pigram from supermanoeuvre & the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in collaboration with Ole Egholm Pedersen and Niels Martin Larsen of Aarhus School of Architecture (AAA).�The project brings Dave Pigram's research on computational form-finding for compression-only structures; and algorithmic feedback between design conception and design realisation; together with Ole Egholm Pederson's research into concrete tectonics and the use of folded PETG moulds.�The compression-only form is computed through a digital hanging net (dynamic-relaxation) form-finding process. A second custom algorithm is then used to unroll; number and annotate; and add tabs, holes and calibrated dashed cut lines to each unique component; and to nest the resultant pieces onto sheets.�The final structure comprises 130 unique concrete components with cast-in reinforcement and an engineered demountable joint of polymer zip-ties. Analysis of ISIS beam properties indicated that a peak acceleration of 780 m s −2 would give suf- ficient headroom for the target to achieve an appropriate interception with the beam given various beam conditions and a deep target actuation. The low mass of material required for interaction with the beam implies that the mass of the moving part of the motor (or “shuttle”) must be dominated by that of the permanent magnet assembly and any mechanical linkages. A design was therefore required which maximised the electromagnetic force while minimising the mass, with the goal of a specific force equal to ∼780 N kg −1 for reasonable assumptions of motor geometry and location. To achieve the highest magnetic loading, sintered neodymium-iron-boron magnets were chosen for the shuttle, as these have the greatest field strength and best strength-to-mass ratio. A bank of appropriately energised coils interact with the field of the magnets to drive the shuttle. Soft mag- netic core material was considered for the stator, but this was not found to lead to any advantage, due to the small size of the motor and the fact that magnetic material would be saturated [9]. This was exacerbated by the significant “air-gap” between the permanent magnets (inside the vacuum chamber) and coils (outside), actually filled by vacuum and non-magnetic vacuum tube.

Here, each component of the system is called a “factor,” and each test case is called an “experimental run.” An experimental run represents a test case to comprehend the system’s components, where each component is represented by its valid numeric value or configuration (Chan, F.T.,). When the system is tested exhaustively, the “full factorial” design of the experiment is used. However, when the system is large and the full factorial design is not desirable, the “fractional factorial” design is used to reduce the experimental run to a subset of the full factorial design. The fractional factorial design is used with systems of numeric factors; conversely, systems with categorical factors cannot use this method for experiments (Montgomery, D.C., 2006). The D-Optimality design, on the other hand, has been used with systems, including categorical factors, to reduce the experimental run by selecting a subset of runs from the full factorial. Instead of a purely random subsets selection of experimental runs from the full factorial design, the use of the D-Optimality design method in experiments leads to the production of experimental runs that are closer to full factorial design (Hoskins, D.S., 2005).

Over the last three decades, researchers have proposed a broad spectrum of suffix array construction algorithms (SACAs). The matu- rity of GPU programming opened doors to the development of massively parallel GPU SACAs that outperform the fastest versions of suffix sorting algorithms op- timized for the CPU parallel computing. As such, the nowadays industry “inherited” and is more used to a certain contractual simplicity and is more accustomed with a basic traditional procurement route. All three projects are public projects, however, the nature of the US and the UK customers differs from the investigated Brazilian customer. The US and the UK customers were highly sophisticated and well aware of their price and quality requirements. In the Brazilian environment, the consumer market was represented by low-income families, which are less sophisticated customers and enjoy less freedom of choice. Unlike manufacturing, the target costing process in the three studies were not market focused. The changes in customer requirements was high in the U.S attempt and due to implementation of Target Value Design the team were able to contain the cost of the project. The UK and Brazilian attempts faced less challenges with respect to changes in client requirements. The client had better understanding of the future requirements in all the three project. However, ‘survival zone’ application cannot be applied to any of the three attempts due the nature of projects (Public projects).
