June 27th

Wis 1:13-15; 2:23-24

God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living. For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome, and there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the netherworld on earth, for justice is undying.

For God formed man to be imperishable; the image of his own nature he made him. But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who belong to his company experience it.

2 Cor 8:7, 9, 13-15 Brothers and sisters:

As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also.

For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality.

As it is written:

Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less.

Mk 5:21-43

When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea. One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward. Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, “My daughter is at the point of death. Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live.” He went off with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him.

[There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of

her affliction. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who has touched my clothes?”

But his disciples said to Jesus, “You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.”]

While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official’s house arrived and said, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?” Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official, he caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. So he went in and said to them, “Why this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.” And they ridiculed him. Then he put them all out. He took along the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and entered the room where the child was. He took the child by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise!” The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around. At that they were utterly astounded. He gave strict orders that no one should know this and said that she should be given something to eat.

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only begotten Son of God, born of the Father, before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets.

Sing a New Song

Dan Schutte Refrain

Sing a new song unto the Lord;

let your song be sung from mountains high. Sing a new song unto the Lord,

singing alleluia.

1. Shout with gladness! Dance for joy! O come before the Lord.

And play for God on glad tambourines, and let your trumpet sound.

2. Rise, O children, from your sleep; your Savior now has come.

He has turned your sorrow to joy, and filled your soul with song. 3. Glad my soul for I have seen the glory of the Lord.

The trumpet sounds; the dead shall be raised. I know my Savior lives.

We Walk By Faith

Henry Alford

1. We walk by faith, and not by sight: No gracious words we hear

Of him who spoke as none e'er spoke, But we believe him near.

2. We may not touch his hands and side, Nor follow where he trod;

Yet in his promise we rejoice, And cry 'My Lord and God!' 3. Help then, O Lord, our unbelief,

And may our faith abound; To call on you when you are near, And seek where you are found: 4. That when our life of faith is done

In realms of clearer light We may behold you as you are In full and endless sight.

5. We walk by faith, and not by sight: No gracious words we hear

Of him who spoke as none e'er spoke, But we believe him near.

St. Vincent De Paul Society:

June 27 - Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time:

In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering.

This week, please join with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in praying for the healing of all those who are ill and especially those who have no one to pray for them.

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – The Word

Many of us have heard the jokes that Catholics don’t read the Bible. While it is true that the sacramental life of the Catholic Church is wonderful and surpasses the power of Scripture alone, it is imperative for us to read and pray with Scripture. Jesus, the Word made flesh, reminds us in His words to the disciples how important it is to hear the Word of God, to meditate on it, and to implement its truths into our daily lives. He reminds us of the necessity to be rooted in it and to allow it to become the wellspring from which all of our thoughts, words, and actions flow.

We should read Scripture every single day of our lives, whether that means going to daily Mass and listening to the readings, praying lectio divina, or praying a daily Bible verse on one of the various apps. St. Jerome once said that ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. We come to a fuller knowledge and relationship with the Lord when we read the Scriptures.

Dear Parishioners,

Just a reminder: the general dispensation from attending Sunday Mass due to the Covid-19 pandemic is being lifted July 1st by Archbishop Rozanski. While this is a hopeful sign that the Covid-19 pandemic is loosening its grip on our lives and life is returning more and more to what we remember as normal, we still must be vigilant. Only 48% of Missouri residents have been vaccinated, and only 45% of St. Louis County residents have been vaccinated. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated! ALL adults are now eligible, and there are many places you can receive the vaccine. IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN VACCINATED, YOU MUST CONTINUE TO WEAR A MASK IN CHURCH. If you feel more comfortable wear-ing a mask and would like to sit in an area of church with only those who wear a mask, please let an usher know before Mass begins and we will accommodate you. This will also be the last Sunday we will offer Communion after the 11am Mass in the church lobby. If you still have the need to receive Communion and participate with our community at Mass via live-stream, please let us know, and Deacon Stackle will make every effort to bring Com-munion to you.

I hope you are able to enjoy the relaxed pace of summer-time!

Have a blessed and healthy week! St. Simon the Apostle pray for us! Fr. Brad

Prayer for the Feast Day of Sts. Peter &

Paul

Blessed Redeemer, Saints Peter and Paul were leaders and

models in

strengthening the faith of the infant Church, and I ask them to pray for my faith to grow strong. Saint Paul wrote in his second letter to Saint Timothy, “I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have.” Wherever I am still a baby in my relationship with You, weak and uncertain, I ask Saints Peter and Paul to pray for me to grow into spiritual maturity. Help me, O Lord, to increase in faith and trust. Where Your presence is but a spark in me, fan it into a flame that brightens other people’s lives. Saints Peter and Paul, pray for me. Amen.

The Rosary Project

We now have over 60 families/individuals committed to saying one decade of the rosary daily for the intentions and growth of our parish and school. This group includes school families, long time parishioners, faculty members, and clergy. God is good!! Would you join us in this

mission? It will only take about 5 minutes a day, but

what God can do with that 5 minutes is immeasurable. The more families committed the more Rosaries being prayed. I believe God has great graces ready for St. Simon parish and school, so let us come together in one voice through the Blessed Mother and ask for them. Join in praying for our priests and deacons, our faculty, staff, students, parents, and for all our community’s intentions. Join us in asking that God will use our Parish and School to build His Kingdom and let us share His love with our neighbors. It is a small commitment, but with small offerings God does amazing things. Please be a part of this powerful prayer.

It's not a certainty that all the letters bearing Paul's name were actually written by him. There are historical, literary and theological indicators that distinguish Paul's genuine letters from the others. In this series we will look at three distinct phases or "faces" of the message of Paul, as we attempt to arrive at the message of the "real" Paul. In so doing we will see the consistencies between "real" Paul and the message of Jesus.
