Nevertheless, we could not make a solid prediction regarding 水 ‘water’ since its collocates of 口 ‘mouth,’ 身 ‘body,’ 頭 ‘head,’ and 手 ‘hand’ can be used both literally and figuratively. These (linguistic) collocates in Table 6 are obviously different from the resonances of the five elements presented in Table 1 earlier, further confirming that language use and traditional beliefs might be two separate knowledge systems for the Chinese.

This paper examines the direct and indirect effects of logistics management on the effectiveness of reverse logistics in Thailand’s electronics industry. The study uses a mixed method of qualitative and quantitative research. In-depth interviews with 20 supply chain directors at the best-in-class electronics manufacturing companies centered on five elements of logistics management – namely, product design and choice of materials; transportation and movement; manufacturing; packaging; and communication. The study examines the impact of these five elements on reverse logistics activities such as product return, reuse of materials, and waste disposal, specifically in the context of Thailand’s electronics industry. The study provides a new perspective that departs from traditional theory, primarily because it takes into consideration the fact that Thailand has a more complex business environment than most other countries. The results will benefit supply chain and logistics managers in the electronics manufacturing industry as they set priorities to improve reverse logistics management in their respective companies. The major limitation of the study is that it is limited to the impact of the five elements of logistics management in the context of Thailand only.

Identification and Characterisation of five novel Miniature Inverted-repeat Transposable Elements (MITEs) in amphioxus (Branchiostoma floridae)

Five novel elements have been characterised from the amphioxus sequences around NK homeobox genes and the ParaHox cluster. Initial analyses of cosmid sequences containing the NK genes were performed on the NIX implementation of BLASTn at [http://www.hgmp.mrc.ac.uk/nix/]. BLASTn searches within NIX utilised the TREMBL non- redundant dataset (the NIX resource is now unavailable). Subsequent BLAST analyses were carried out on a stand-alone database constructed from 859 publicly available Branchiostoma spp sequences (October 2002), to which 450 B. floridae sequences were added, that had been generated in our laboratories. The size of this stand-alone database was approximately 2.76Mb. This analysis identified three novel elements. BLAST searches [20] of the Genbank nr database (Oct 2005) using PACs containing the ParaHox cluster increased this to five elements. The repeats that conform to the general structure of MITES are described here. A search of Censor using REPBASE UPDATE 10.11 [21] gave no similarity to previously reported TEs. One of the elements does however, have similarity to part of the published ATE-1 sequence of Cañestro et al. [19] (see discussion). All five elements have characteristics of MITEs, including short size, TIRs and TSDs, although the A+T content of each was slightly lower than expected. We conclude all five elements are novel MITEs which we name LanceleTn-1, LanceleTn-2, LanceleTn-3a, LanceleTn-3b and LanceleTn-4, after another common name for amphioxus – the Lancelet. Our initial study of HeT-A element sequences (B iess- mann et al. 1992) was based on 3 9 noncoding sequences from five elements: Two of these elements had trans- posed onto broken ends shortly before they were cloned, and three were from established telomeres. (One from the second group, A4-4, is only 132 bp long. Because the 3 9 noncoding regions of the other four elements in this study are 1.5–2.7 kb, we will not include A4-4 in our analyses.) These noncoding se- quences showed almost as much sequence conserva- tion as was seen for HeT-A coding regions in a later study (P ardue et al. 1996b). Pairwise comparisons of the 3 9 noncoding sequences showed greater than 75% sequence identity between all elements when gapped regions were omitted (B iessmann et al. 1992). HeT-A coding regions have been found to differ by as much as 20% in both nucleotide and amino acid sequences (P ardue et al. 1996b). It is important to note that both the 3 9 noncoding and the coding region studies in- cluded elements that had transposed shortly before they were cloned and therefore should be young, active elements. Designing and implementing two facilitation interventions within the ‘Facilitating Implementation of Research Evidence (FIRE)’ study: a qualitative analysis from an external facilitators’ perspective

Methods: Qualitative data sources included notes from monthly internal-external facilitator teleconference meetings, from closing events for the two facilitation interventions and summary data analyses from repeated interviews with 16 internal facilitators. Deductive and inductive data analysis was led by an independent researcher to evaluate how facilitation in practice compared to the logic pathways designed to guide fidelity in the delivery of the interventions. Results: The planned facilitation interventions did not work as predicted. Difficulties were encountered in each of the five elements of the logic pathway: recruitment and selection of appropriate internal facilitators, preparation for the role, ability to apply facilitation knowledge and skills at a local level, support and mentorship from external facilitators via monthly teleconferences, working collaboratively and enabling colleagues to implement guideline recommendations. Moreover, problems were cumulative and created tensions for the external facilitators in terms of balancing the logic pathway with a more real-world, flexible and iterative approach to facilitation.

This set of books evolved from notes used in two one-quarter courses to teach the elements of combat systems and systems integration to military officers in the Total Ship Systems Engineer- ing (TSSE) program at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. Students in this multidisciplinary program are drawn from three curricula at NPS: Naval & Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Combat Systems Science & Technology. The students take six elective courses (1 on systems engineering, 1 on shipboard power systems, 1 on naval architecture, 1 on hull, mechanical, & electrical integration, and 2 on combat systems elements and integration) and perform a six-month capstone ship design project in addition to fulfilling all requirement for M. S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Physics, respectively. The students are typically junior naval officers (mostly O-3 – Lieutenants) who have served at least two tours aboard ship and have been given the opportunity to obtain graduate technical educations prior to their next promotions. The majority of these are Engineering Duty Officers, although a number have been Unrestricted Line Officers. However, the classes have also had a number of Coast Guard officers, and even a few Marine Corps and Army officers and Department of Defense civilians. Although most of the students were interested in Naval surface ships and came from the Surface Warfare community, a number were aviators, submariners, space systems operators, and even armor officers. This fact coupled with the author’s belief in the necessity of joint warfare led him to tailor the course to avoid restriction of the discussions to “Surface Navy only” systems. A Systems Engineering and Analysis (SEA) program was developed a few years ago to teach technology to future requirements setters in the Unrestricted Line Community. The two TSSE courses on combat systems were expanded to four courses in the SEA curriculum, necessitating the incorporation of more material into the texts.

These teachers were asked to complete the WMCW and were invited to a half day workshop to discuss the instrument and findings. Sixteen teachers completed the instrument, and 15 attended the workshop. An outside evaluator facilitated a discussion during which teachers identified essential elements of co-teaching that they felt were missing from the WMCW and which elements, if any, should be modified or excluded. Based on the cooperating teachers’ feedback, minor revisions were made to the instrument.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to attempt an assessment of the extent and prevalence of serial murder through possible criminological theories. Each of the main theories is discussed to evaluate whether a successful explanation for serial killing can be provided. For the purpose of this piece of work we have concentrated primarily on America as it has the highest rate of serial killings and hence they have produced most of the research into this subject area. Britain is following America's example; investigative techniques and the development of a profiling system. There are four parts for better understanding and exploration in terms of an assessment of the serial murder. First part looks at the legal definitions of murder, the categorisation of types of multiple murder and the common elements within serial murder. In second part various definitions of serial murder are examined and the many differing typologies of serial killers are looked at. Third part addresses the historical and modern-day extent of serial murder and questions the validity of research into its current prevalence. The discussions are that biological, psychiatric, psychological, and sociological theories are discussed and their applicability to the existence of serial murder evaluated. At the end of present paper, a multi-dimensional model of the serial killer is described.
