Embedded systems used in real-time applications require low power, less area and high computa- tion speed. For digital signal processing, image processing and communication applications, data are often received at a continuously high rate. The type of necessary arithmetic functions and ma- trix operations may vary greatly among different applications. The RTL-based design and verifica- tion of one or more of these functions could be time-consuming. Some High Level Synthesis tools reduce this design and verification time but may not be optimal or suitable for low power applica- tions. The design tool proposed in this paper can improve the design time and reduce the verifica- tion process. The design tool offers a fast design and verification platform for important matrix operations. These operations range from simple addition to more complex matrix operations such as LU and QR factorizations. The proposed platform can improve design time by reducing verifica- tion cycle. This tool generates Verilog code and its testbench that can be realized in FPGA and VLSI systems. The designed system uses MATLAB-based verification and reporting.

AJA method and AJA Canvas as a Design Tool for Autonomous Operations

[17], [18] and has the underlying principle of breaking down a task into individual elements and study them. Among the different problems one has to face in the task analysis procedures, is deciding what to describe and to what level of detail. This can be challenging enough since it is not always obvious how to break down an operation in order to accomplish a representative analysis. The AJA method is one of the suggested methods in the SEATONOMY methodology [19], which provides a structured approach for design, development and validation of mobile autonomous maritime operations and systems. An analytical and descriptive overview of the SEATONOMY methodology can be found in [19]. In order to further facilitate and enforce the AJA methodology that is already proposed, we are in addition proposing a single page AJA canvas. The canvas idea is based on the business model canvas [17],[20],[21] approach and the scope is to gather the essential information needed for the design of an autonomous operation into a single page document. This facilitates the applicability of the method and gives the users the possibility to carefully design and analyze the operation in a structured manner. In order to ease the understanding of the presented method, we have illustrated it through application on a test case study referred to as "storyboard" which concerns the detection of an underwater waste plume with the usage of a swarms of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). Finally, we present an additive tool, that can help with the design of autonomous operations, which we call the "requirements table". This table, gathers the functional requirements of the operation to be analyzed and gives the designers an extra tool in the organization phase. The outline of the current paper is as follows: In Section 2 we will describe the AJA method, in the sequel the AJA canvas will be presented in Section 3, and the Requirements table theory is presented in Section 4. The results of the test case scenario are presented in section 5, while the conclusions are drawn in section 6. In the Appendix A, the full tables regarding the AJA analysis and the requirements table are presented.

The traditional bituminous pavements and their needs for continuous maintenance and rehabilitation operations points towards the scope for cement concrete pavements. There are several advantages of cement concrete pavements over bituminous pavements. This paper explains on POLYMER FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE PAVEMENTS, which is a recent advancement in the field of reinforced concrete pavement design. PFRC pavements prove to be more efficient than conventional RC pavements, in several aspects, which are explained in this paper. The design procedure and paving operations of PFRC are also discussed in detail. A detailed case study of Polyester fiber waste as fiber reinforcement is included and the results of the study are interpreted. The paper also includes a brief comparison of PFRC pavements with conventional concrete pavement. The merits and demerits of PFRC pavements are also discussed. The applications of PFRC in the various construction projects in Kerala are also discussed in brief.

In high altitude operations, the cooling system takes part to the vehicle design optimization process. An integrated design of the cooling ducts is strictly necessary. At high altitudes, the cooling air is taken from high-pressure areas into an alternate, extremely optimized, path. A diffuser reduces the airspeed and increases pressure of the cooling air. Then a group of high performance finned radiators rejects the heat from coolant, air charge and oil. The high altitude, after diffuser radiator performance is discussed in this paper. At first high performance Formula 1 radiators are introduced and discussed. Experimental data are also exposed and summarized. The pressure drop and heat rejection are expressed in function or Re and Pr numbers of cooling air. Then the radiator performance at high altitude is extrapolated from the ground test data. Finally a few suggestions on radiator and cooling ducts arrangement are introduced.

Multidisciplinary design of a micro-USV for re-entry operations

This paper addresses the robust multi-disciplinary design of a small scale unmanned space vehicle for re-entry operations. An algorithm was developed, which combines a global, population based solver with a direct transcription method for optimal control problems. Uncertainties on the aerodynamic model and on some characteristics of the thermal protection material are introduced into the vehicle model, and the evolutionary part of the code searches for shapes minimizing the mean value of the heat flux at the nose, the maximum internal temperature and the weighted sum of their variances. The control problem solver is interfaced with an ANN that gives the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle on the basis of geometry parameters and operational conditions. The neural network is trained and upgraded by an evolution control procedure, which uses a multi-fidelity approach, in order to limit as much as possible the use of expensive, high fidelity CFD computations.

design. Indeed many practitioners in industry believe that the art of die design can be mastered only through long years of experience. Traditional methods of design of blanking die for sheet metal operations involve numerous calculations and decisions which have to be made on the basis of experience and practice codes without the computer aids [2]. A die designer may have to spend many hours consulting hand books, going through empirical formulae, perusing tabulated and graphical information, and making calculations before arriving at workable designs. These activities are tedious and time consuming, and often do not yield optimum results. In recent years the computer aided procedures [1], [3]-[9] are being increasingly utilized to ameliorate the above difficulties. But there is not a single system which is capable to accomplish the complete design process of blanking die. Commercially available CAD/CAM systems are providing some assistance in drafting and analysis in die design process, but human expertise is still needed to arrive at the final design [10]. Also, the high cost associated with setting up such systems is quite often beyond the reach of small and medium sized sheet metal industries, especially in developing countries. There exists therefore, the need of developing an expert system for design of the blanking die. The system should be capable of providing expert advices to the planners of sheet metal operations especially one employed in the small scale stamping industries.

The Gustavo Galindo Field is considered a mature field, with more than 100 years of oil exploitation, so it becomes essential to carry out workover operations in oil wells more frequently to restore, prolong or improve oil production. These interventions can develop into a major problem since the interaction between the Workover fluid and the fluid in low permeability reservoirs is not considered, causing a great fluid reduction in the formation area near the well which would decrease production. The objective of this article is to design a Workover fluid compatible with the properties of the production and fluid formations of the Gustavo Galindo field, minimizing the formation damage generated by the well’s intervention. The results are justified with the compatibility tests for each formulation of the fluid made in the laboratory.

In this study, the controllable factors are depth of cut (A), cutting speed (B), feed rate (C), which were selected because they can potentially affect surface roughness performance in end-milling operations. Since these factors are controllable in the machining process, they are considered as controllable factors in the study. One of the important attributes of Taguchi parameter design is it could also consider uncontrollable (Noise) factors in the analysis. One of the noise factors used in this study is the measurement location of the work piece. It is very difficult to control the surface roughness measurement because it is different at separate locations. In this study, the measurement location of the finished surface was considered as a noise factor and was measured at eight different locations.
